# Mentee README.md
Clarifying sections to define content and finalise layout
# Becoming a Mentee
- programs
- next intake session (dates)
# career-journey.md
* Explaining the 'typical' career journey for new or inexperienced contributors
* Outlining various opportunities
* Explaining differences from traditional or more familiar career pathways and trajectories e.g. not so dependent on CVs, job search and usual job search methods to obtain work vs. providing evidence of your skills and consistency *first*, and being approached with opportunities thereafter
---
# Programs
We have [existing-programs](https://github.com/cncf/mentoring/tree/v2/programs) in which you can participate.
---
# Contribution
*As a mentee, you will contribute to the program via ...*
- Brief definition of OS Contribution?
- How it differs from usual types of work
- **Why it's so important to the culture and community of Open Source, not just the work itself**
*Explaining the concept and purpose of Contribution first should make it easier for newbies to process 'Experience' in the following section.*
---
# Expected entry-level experience
Distinguish code from non-code skills and experience:
**Code-based Contribution:**
Experience in writing code, either formal or self taught. - *Expand some*
* Common skills across several projects (for example)? - > **LFX Skills Matrix**
**Skill builder options**
- Include relevant EDX courses?
- Include relevant LFX courses?
**Non-code Contribution:**
In general, proficiency in English would be helpful in non-code or document-based contribution. It is the predominant language across most projects and communication forums in open source globally.
There are of course projects where English is not a requirement, however, having a solid foundation and understanding will be more beneficial for you throughout your contributor journey than not.
***Some examples of non-code contribution include:***
- Technical writing knowledge
- Translations
- Design e.g. UI/UX, website
- Project or program management
- Marketing
*Explain why these are important and how they are accessible to newcomers - what is the value they offer to projects, and why it's important to keep making incremental contributions over time to help support them and build your professional portfolio.*
***Who makes good documentation writers?***
* English majors
* Communications Majors
* Journalism students
* Graduate students e.g. CompSci graduate students
* UI/UX experience
* Marketing material experience
Contributors with these career backgrounds have often developed skills in key areas of communication; able to break down and articulate complex facts and ideas effectively for a broad audience.
**Qualifications and career experience in these areas are not essential!** If you have a passion or strength for documentation, please don't hesitate to get involved.
Starting with a [good first issue](https://contribute.cncf.io/maintainers/github/issue-labels/#good-first-issue) can help you to familiarise yourself with content and requirements.

# Technical Setup & Resources
The technical resourcing needed to contribute isn't complex, but with the numerous actions, projects and meetings that can be involved, ensuring you can participate without issue is critical.
Here's a few key things to consider:
- Access to reliable internet (avoid cutting out during meetings!)
- Having dedicated computer access where you have administrative access is recommended.
***Other (less important?) resources to include?***
***
# Applying to join a program
Notes:
* ***Highlight the benefits of joining a program.*** Don't assume newbies recognise the value (besides stipend!).
* Showing a cohesive career pathway (visual) and how program participation can help to fast-track the career process wilk
Refer to the [Programs] section of the repo
- Provide links to each
