# Solarpunk server / Apostheon Preface. All of the following is conceptual, none of it is finished. ## Rundown "The Sunwrought Machine. A divice that is the pinicle of mans ingenuity, was used to pluck the sun from the sky. In the cradle of humanity, they use its light to prepare for war with the divines. Free will was gods first mistake, and that sin will be his undoing. The Godfall Protocol is in its final stages. Will the Godsteel Nexus hold against the hoards of the faithful, or will Gods final machination be complete, and the universe reset." - Ook God is coming and we stole the sun to kill it. The crew will have 7 days to assemble, align and power the weapon to kill god. Working from their platform orbiting the sun they will have to perform various tasks, like aligning the focusing ray and fixing pipes pumping the vast power of the sun into the weapon. Finding the parts for the weapon requires: 1: Delve into the ruins of the platform, dealing with ancient security systems, demons, starbeasts, and the dregs of humanity. 2: Craft it, Gathering materials of x types. Processing them from one material to another. This would be an extremely difficult job. Dangerous manuel labor 3: Raiding specific locations that need these parts to function. You can take the air circuitboard from the thing and slap it into the gun, but that would mean everyone would run out of air. ## The crew ### Concept 1: Departmental #### Wardens Tasked with upkeeping the peace and maintaining security of the godfall protocol the wardens will be a security analogue. #### Watchers Overseers tasked with ensuring the operation goes smoothly, the watchers are the leaders of the project and are a command analogue. #### Assemblers Tasked with maintaining the Godsteel Nexus and executing any repairs that the weapon requires. Roughly an engineering equivalent. #### Lakare Medical support staff. #### Support Any additional help the crew needs is through the support staff, their main function is to feed the expedition and ensure morale is at a stable level. ### Concept 2: Corporate God threatens the margins our society is based on, an obstacle that requires a syndicate of purpose. #### V.I.B The Venutian Individual Bank, after what remains of venus collapsed into infighting the VIB have set their sights elsewhere. The end of the universe would also be an end to profits and as such this unfathomably wealthy corporation is bankrolling the operation and bringing in any contractors willing. Their representative is chief of the operation. #### Skold AB An ancient corporation from before the sundering, this security firm has outlasted most competition. The guards provided by this corporation bear a distinct regal purple marker. #### TSCEC The State Construction Engineering Company. A firm founded by a fallen government, now it serves none but itself. A workers life expectancy is measured in months as TSCEC will use the cheapest material available. Hired to upkeep the platform and potentially construct any material needed. #### Amirita Amirita is a medical firm specializing in genetic healing. They see the human form as something to be warped if it serves the preservation of the mind within. Their CEO is said to have lived for long enough to see the first bricks of the installation laid. #### GreenCo Having patented a vast majority of plant DNA this corporation has a ruthless hold on the agricultural and food industry. They have been contracted to provide rations and other morale boosting supplements to the rest of the contracted firms. ### Concept 3: Houses Concept 3 is to have a house/guild system instead of corporations or vague departments. Each house corresponds to a sin and each house also has a purpose on the platform outside of killing god. The goals right now are a bit vague, and should be refined with the goal to create possible conflict. #### Greed Collection. "The desire for more is not unnatural, in fact it is our very nature to grab what we can and hold on for as long as we can." The house of greed aim to find and exploit any resources on the platform, their want drives them. Greed will mainly focus on construction through procuring materials or supporting expeditions in the ruins, their nature as collectors have lead the house of greed to have a high amount of unique weaponry which may prove useful. Goal besides god: Collect relics from the ruins. #### Gluttony Consumption. "Feast or famine? We have long since learned are not mutually exclusive." The house of gluttony are constantly embroiled in preparations, if not when growing their specimens, then whilst preparing shipping routes. Gluttony are driven by the desire to consume, and the only means to reach higher heights of feasting are to grow ever larger foodstuffs, or import lavishly expensive goods. They will provide the food and ferry in any materials the expedition needs. Goal besides god: Host a lavish feast. #### Pride Better. "Superiority is not a thing that needs defending, it is not a castle, it is a cloud, so far above that lessers can only hope to gaze at it's splendor." The house of pride see themselves above all others, they are usually the ones to wrestle control in any situation that brokers collaboration, and this is no exception. Pride are in charge, they control this expedition, it is through their foremen that the lessers are told what needs to be done, they are also the ones which maintain communications with the outside. Their superiority is not often questioned since to do so would bare ones throat to the others. Goal besides god: Ensure superiority. #### Wrath Rage. "Anger, rage, hate, all are virtues. The man who does not feel a spark of rage when his house burns is truly lost." The house of wrath is full of those seeking revenge for what others have done to them, but mainly they direct their ire at the one who caused it all. God. Wrath are the muscle of the operation, through their firepower the expedition will see god slain. They do not struggle to maintain their composure and instead willingly let it slip when the see a foe. Goal besides god: Kill his servants. #### Lust More. "I stand in a field filled with monuments to our glory, and yet I can see a hill unmarred by cobble. There is work to be done." The house of lust wish for more, a wish which has driven the house to produce some of the foremost artisans, as there is a limited number of things in existence and the only way to bring in anything new is through creation. Lust are the architects, builders and maintainers of most projects, their drive for more has led them to perfecting the art of construction amongst others. They will build, craft, and create until the space to do so no longer exists. Goal besides god: Create art. #### Envy Loss. #### Sloth Repeat. "Once more I wake here. Once more I scream. Once more I think these thoughts. I stopped counting. Eternity is shorter." The house of sloth cling onto the status quo with the grip of those dangling above damnation, they will ensure all stays the same. Sloth are the foremost medical operatives among the houses and will ensure the cycle remains unbroken. Suffering is secondary to the purpose of maintaining infinity. Goal besides god: Maintain the cycle. ### Present in All Concepts #### Citizens What remains of the inhabitants of the platform. They've long since fallen into their own form of governance which is sure to be respected by the new arrivals. ## Opposition There are those who do not wish to see the weapon built. ### In the ruins #### Dregs A small scavenger society situated in the ruins of the platforms depths, always on the knives edge of extinction they fear the new arrivals will tip them over. The Dregs are fiercely territorial and whilst they may only have scavenged technology, they know the cavernous depths of the platform better than most others. #### Ferals Beasts prowl the depths of the platform. Subjects of old genetic experiments, what remains of old pets and beasts of burden live in the depths, long forgotten by those who raised them. They survive now through hunting luckless men lost in the ruins. #### Aegis Protocol The ancient defenses of the base itself, these masterless automaton have long since fallen into algorithm death and now recognize everything as a threat to the weapon. Using self repair protocols they have been able to stay alive for long. #### Unmade There is no knowledge in human tongues of how Unmade manifest. Unmade are swarms of geometry folding in and out of themselves in impossible ways. To most humans the mere sight of one is enough to make the heart question beating. They are few in number but to gaze upon one is to see the coming threat for what it truly is: Unreality manifest. ### In the churches #### God Hailers Worshipers of god. The Hailers have been working in secret, preparing every day for this eventuality only for these interlopers to attempt to stop its coming. The Hailers do not fear the trumpets call and thus seek efforts to disrupt the construction of the weapon. Bearing ancient schematics and weapons calling upon unreality itself they are ready to hunt down and destroy parts of the godkiller. Hailers believe that Gods arrival will herald the rapture and following war. #### Aedificatum Machines built by a long dead priest-caste to worship the god. The Aedificatum have never forgotten this one central purpose to their construction. The Aedificatum do not see a separation between materialism and faith, god is real, god is material, god is coming. The Aedificatum believe that humans are not worthy to worship god, and much less so worthy to attempt to halt his progress. They are now firing up their forge ships and heading for the platform, praying they are not too late. Aedificatum store the consciousness of any of their dead in a great collective. This collective is what governs them, and drives any actions undertaken. Parts of the collective are used to create new consciousness for new bodies. (Imagine consciousness as an ingredient, and the collective as a soup pot, they basically throw everything in there, let it stew and then grab a spoonful to insert into a body) ### Amongst the citizens #### Malady - The Singing plague A strain of the poison stemming from unreality, the singing plague remakes the human form, knitting and reforming it to something closer to itself. The singing plague is so called because the sound of flesh reknitting is eerily similar to that of a choirs song. #### Uprising Triggered if the crew begins to strip life support or other similar important systems from the platform. It is a base human instinct to survive, and the uprising will attempt to thwart any efforts to disrupt life on the platform. #### Atheist (name pending, I think this is a bit too on the nose) God is not real. In spite of what everyone else panics about only you appear to be enlightened enough to understand this fact. The damage these outsiders are doing to the platform, and the beasts their delving into the depths is causing to awaken, is wholly unwarranted. They are merely afraid of a prophecy they think will come to pass. You will sabotage their efforts, and attempt to keep life on the station going, you will stop them from sowing their lies about a god. Through resourceful scavenging and your knowledge of certain caches in the depths you may be able to fight back. ## The platform Godsteel nexus, an ancient platform in orbit around the Sunwrought Machine. Built to house the godkiller, Apostheon. ### Systems The systems are important machines keeping the platform functional, they contain vital components which can be used to repair Apostheon. #### Power - Heart The Godsteel nexus has a series of systems to keep itself operable. Most important is the pillar, which is the central powerline through which the nexus is powered. All power on the nexus stems from the pillar. This pillar is referred to as the heart. The heart is vital to power the godkiller. Departments landed down from above use great powercells refilled at the heart for power, this is also what powers most weaponry. #### Life support - Lungs The lungs are an advanced form of life support which maintain temperature and atmospheric conditions on the platform. Without the Lungs you could not survive without appropriate equipment, and though it might be rarity aboard the new comers sent to assemble the weapon may upset that balance. #### Drives - Legs The legs are an advanced form of propulsion engine of some sort, it is what holds the platform floating and prevents it from falling into the sun. Removing the components from the drives will cause the platform to fall into the sun after 2 days, with the platform getting gradually hotter during the descent. #### The UV shield - Skin The UV shield is what stops the citizens of the platform from dying of solar exposure. The UV shield is called skin because its a thin shield barrier wrapping around the entire platform. If the skin fails anyone on the surface of the platform will begin suffering cellular damage and will have to avoid the glare of the sun. ### The Map I envision a 2 z-level map, with an underground segment, I'd rather not have it just be 1z = Ruin and 1z = "station" and instead have it more entwined. There will be a landing site for the expedition onto the platform, then a small shanty town built by the citizens of the platform, then a large foundry which can be powered up to create the components, and lastly ruins scattered throughout. ## Godkiller/Apostheon A weapon of unmatched scale constructed to kill god. ### Constructing Constructing Apostheon is a feat of engineering which will take a lot of effort from the expedition. You first need a lot of raw materials to fix up the frame and then you need to go locate all the complex components required to operate it. #### Components You need X amount of vital components to construct/repair Apostheon (where X is the amount of systems we choose to add). Components can be either be found in the ruins, manufactured or stolen from the platforms vital systems. #### Material I feel this should be less of a focus, but how I'm imagining it is you can obtain the material necessary through shipments or through melting down stuff (like the ruins, or the housing of the civilians). That way if say the shipments are disrupted by one of the churches you can still build Apostheon. ### Powering ### Aligning ## Misc stuff that I havent gotten around to putting somewhere yet ### Species Humans only as roundstart. The idea is that god created multiple races but have finished them all off, only humanity remains to be broken before reality can be reset. Some antagonists will be different "species" (notably the Unmade and any robotic lifeforms). ## Gameplay concepts Hey! Moreso than any other page this one is very much so just a storage of concepts for how some essential parts of the game might work. ### Time You have 7 days until god unmakes reality. The clock is ticking, but how do we determine how the clock ticks? Well, there is a base timer which constantly counts downward, the count can be accelerated by certain actions being performed, mainly by the churches. The actions will be determined later, but in my mind some sort of ritual being performed at key systems. #### Time and its consequences As the time of gods arrival grows closer I think the world outside of the platform should begin to break down, resulting in later days for example having less shipments. I envision this as being similar to Frostpunk: The last autumn in which you through telegrams hear of societies imminent breakdown in the face of an eternal winter. ### Sanity I feel like in a codebase like this with some light eldritch elements, some sort of sanity system might be fun. Idk what codebases besides TG have this as a native feature but it could be cool, the lower it gets the more hallucinations you see and at the lowest maybe you get hunted by shadows or similar which deal brain damage (imagine dont starve style).
