Hello Research Bazaar Tucson 2021 Registrants!

Wasn't that a whirlwind of a week? I know I'm tired! We're happy to announce that almost all of the #ResBazAZ2021 sessions were recorded and will be added to the ResBaz youtube channel - we'll send a link as soon as they are available.

In the meantime, we'd love to hear your feedback one final time. What worked? what didn't? How can we improve for next year? Which instructors are essential to recruit again? Please fill out the short feedback form here: https://bit.ly/ResBazSurvey

We are hopeful that Research Bazaar Arizona 2022 will be hosted in-person at the University of Arizona the week of May 15, 2022. If you're around, we'd love to see you there.

If you're new to the community, we hope #ResBazAZ2021 will be your first step into joining the data science community, whether in Tucson at the University of Arizona or wherever you are located. The Tucson Women in Data Science group has a great list of ways to get more involved locally, but here are some major groups to check out: Research Bazaar, R-ladies, Data Science meetup groups on meetup.com, Women in Data Science, PyLadies, R-User groupsand many more. We encourage you to find a community and get involved.

We'd like to thank each and every one of you that came to our workshops and participated.

In addition, we'd like to thank our ResBaz community - without them, this event wouldn't have happened. Package Management with Spack

Spack is a package management tool designed to support multiple versions and configurations of software on a wide variety of platforms and environments. It was designed for large supercomputing centers, where many users and application teams share common installations of software on clusters with exotic architectures, using libraries that do not have a standard ABI. Spack is non-destructive: installing a new version does not break existing installations, so many configurations can coexist on the same system. Most importantly, Spack is simple. It offers a simple spec syntax so that users can specify versions and configuration options concisely. Spack is also simple for package authors: package files are written in pure Python, and specs allow package authors to maintain a single file for many different builds of the same package. (https://spack.readthedocs.io/en/latest/) Pre-requisites: Familiarity with Linux command line, and some basic exposure to compiling software on linux systems.

Observable Notebooks for prose, code, and gorgeous visualization on the web

Friday, May 21st, 2021 3:00-5:00 Back to Resbaz HackMD Directory This workshop aims to introduce participants to ObservableHQ which is a relatively new platform used for data visualization, and so much more. We will cover what a notebook is, explore trending examples, and pursue any other inspirations that strike in the course of the workshop. When you leave this workshop you will know how to go from blank slate to published piece visible to the world ( if that’s your thing) all hosted on ObservableHQ. Some exposure to Javascript is going to make this a better workshop experience for you, but honestly we'd love to have you if you've got a machine with a web browser and a thirst for adventure!
