# Akula Lore: The Akula (or the kanaka manō, as they refer to themselves) are a hearty race of bipedal deep-dwelling fish people, who were previously exclusively aquatic until the [teshari/skrell aliance] released a genetic retrovirus that converted them all to amphibian – ostensibly to enable the Akula to join the galaxy at large and bring prosperity back to Wai’uliuli – or Bluewater, their home planet. ## Notes: - Bonsai coral cultivation similar to woodcraft. - Pearl coating to simulate things like metal or concrete - big clam-like creature, big enough to justify coating big things like sword-analogues in said material. Possibly domesticated? - Potential underwater volcanic vent heating - distance-based heating rather than some form of insulation, perhaps metal working, cooking? - Potential to rise to surface, albeit slowly, over hours (? why? They wouldn’t get the bends..) , because they swim **fucking deep** and travel **fucking far** and the shallows are pretty shallow. - Roving, gigantic formations of coral floating about the place that are underwater, living islands -- the biggest of which has been dragged to the surface and acts as an anchor at the planet's northernmost pole for a space elevator. Some few are actually anchored in place to the planet's core (miraculously considering they'd have to be literal towers, and probably cultivated into growing apartments) because - the planet's core is DEEP and somewhat comparatively small? Probably primarily composed of something super-dense. Maybe a moon of Skrell homeworld's???
