# Project Towny Space Progression - Design Doc *For Project Towny Update 0.6 (Space Update), Version 1.1* *Currently in early planning stages, nothing seen below is final!* ###### tags: `Version 0.6` ## Research Progression All techs will be overhauled in the Research Update, but until then we are updating the space tech to this new overhauled system. ### Overhauled Research Basics This is a very basic rundown of this system, a more indepth design doc should be written when 0.7 is in development. #### The Tree The tech tree will still utilize the questbook, however quests will be placed differently. The placement we will use is currently unknown. But below are a couple concepts: * Era Based - Techs are divided into era's, with all techs of that era on one questbook section. * Mod Based - Techs are divided by mod/related mod, meaning all techs related to space in this case would be placed together. * Sub Section Based - The main tech tree is there, but upon reaching a tech, such as space, it opens a subtree, where the tech is more spread out. The main tree is just used to buy the initial tech. * Type Based - Like Mod Based but instead of being grouped together by mod, it's grouped together with related techs that are similar. Ex: All mods related to machines (Immersive Engineering, Mekanism, etc) would be grouped together, regardless of game era. ### Space Tree For 0.6 space tech is being transferred to the new system. #### Satellite Research - Stage 1 The Space tech tree begins with the discovery of satellites. Players must construct a rocket just as you normally would, but the planet id chips and rocket seats will not be craftable, meaning landing on planets is not yet available. **Unlocked Machines:** * Holo-Projector * Crystallizer * Cutting Machine * Precision Assembler * RP-1 Recipe (Most of it will already be unlocked at flight) * Launch Pad Machinery * Basic Rocket Parts (Fuel Tanks and Engines - No guidance computer!) * Satellite Parts * Satellite Machines * Satellite Builder * Satellite Terminal * Rocket Monitoring Terminal **Stage Goal** The goal of stage 1 of the space tech is to build up your basic space machinery and a satellite network, with multiple satellites collecting data. This data should be collected in data storage drives. After collecting 5000 points worth of data, the drives can be handed in, along with a large sum of money for the next stage in space tech. #### Basic Manned Missions Research - Stage 2 After players have built up a space program and a solid satellite network they can begin to move on to exploring the stars, in the form of manned missions. Players should visit the moon, and collect samples and perform experiments to further their understanding of space. **Unlocked Machines** * Guidance Computer * Seat (Pretty advanced tech) * Planet ID Chip * Space Suits * Journey Map (After submitting the satellite data, satellite image maps are now possible) **Stage Goal** At this point only the moon will be reachable. Players should visit the moon and collect surface samples of moon dust and moon rock, as well as the special martian ore osmium. These samples should tie into the experiments mechanic in the 0.7 research update. But for now, having the next tech require these basic materials will work for now. *Utilizing the new 0.7 project system, an "Apollo Program" type project could be interesting* #### Space Stations - Stage 3 After players have build up enough infrastructure to easily land on the moon players should look up to furthering their space program with the construction of a space station. Players should build a space station, with some sort of incentive to make one, for instance a machine or process that is only obtainable in orbit around earth. Or perhaps some sort of research mechanic that ties into running experiments on a nation's space station. **Unlocked Machines** * Space Station Assembler * Atmosphere Regulation Machinery * Space Station Modules and Machines * Station ID Chips **Stage Goal** Players should build a sizeable space station that will house special modular machinery that only functions in the space station dimension, as to be "Space Station Exclusive". Players will run experiments in these custom machines to gather "Space Station Data", which can then be redeemed for the next stage of space tech. This experiment system should be expanded upon in the 0.7 update. #### Asteroid Mining - Stage 4 This is more of a mini stage, and could go hand and hand with stage 3, but I'm putting it afterwards, because we haven't started asteroid mining yet, but we have made a space station. Players unlock the means to discover and mine asteroids. **Unlocked Machines** * Observatory * Asteroid ID Chips * Drills (Asteroid mining kind) * Auto Mining Machines (Unloaders/Loaders, etc) **Stage Goal** This is a minor stage compared to the first 3, so the goal is to simply acquire the Asteroid exclusive ore. #### Colonization - Stage 5??? This stage is a maybe. I'd like a good middle stage to separate the actually realistically possible asteroid mining, to the Sci-Fi warp technology. Maybe something where players are somehow forced/heavily encouraged to build a moon base, but I don't know how this could really be distinguished from stage 2, but I'm sure something could be figured out. **Stage Goal** Idk man #### Warp Technology - Stage 6 Probably the final stage in the space tech tree. Players should build, or just upgrade your old space station if you're lame, a warp ship (Having a reason to keep a basic space station would be ideal. Something like the special machines that you would want to easily access, while you'd want another station to actually explore places with), to travel to other planets. **Unlocked Machines** * Warp Controller * Warp Core * Dilithium Crystals (Could be cool to make a cool difficult craft tree) **Stage Goal** The final stage of space travel, players should warp around and visit planets as the want. Certain planets should be required as to actually make warp technology beneficial to a nation. #### Terreforming or Other Late Game Mechanic - Stage 7??? Might be something to consider for date game depth. ## Ore Generation Certain ores can only be obtained via Advanced Rocketry, whether it is from a planet itself, or from asteroid mining. Below is what is planned for 0.6. The amount of +'s determine how plentiful that ore from that source, proportionate to Earth's ores. The amount of -'s determine if the amount is less than the base value. | Ore | Source | | -------- | -------- | | Aluminum | Earth, Mars | | Ardite | Venus | | Cobalt | Asteroid Mining | | Copper | Earth, Mars | | Gold | Earth | | Iron | Earth, Moon-, Mercury++, Mars+, Asteroid Mining | | Lead | Earth | | Nickel | Earth, Mars, Asteroid Mining | | Osmium | Moon, Asteroid Mining | | Silver | Earth | | Sulfur | Earth, Mercury+ | | Tin | Earth, Mars | | Titanium | Earth, Mars | | Uranium | Earth, Asteroid Mining, Saturn Moon (Undecided) | ## Fluid Generation A few planets have fluids on them, the most notable and easiest to reach being Venus, with its abundant lava. | Fluid | Source | | -------- | -------- | | Water | Earth, Europa++ | | Lava | Earth, Venus++ | | Diesel | Titan++ | | Erchius Fluid | Ganymede | ## Gas Generation Players are capable of performing mining missions around gas giants. These gases should be important in creating a crucial material or item, thus encouraging gas mining. | Gas | Source | | -------- | -------- | | Hydrogen | Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune| | Helium | Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune | | Helium-3 | Luna | | Methane (Maybe) | Uranus, Neptune| ## Asteroids Players can create satellites to collect data for asteroid mining missions. Asteroids are mainly comprised of ores, but with AdvancedRocketry we can designate other things to be found in these "asteroids". ### Mineable Ores * Iron * Cobalt (Only from asteroids) * Osmium * Uranium * Gold * Silver * Nickel ### Non Ores #### Jettisoned Rocket Stage * Name - Jettisoned Rocket Stage * Distance - Undecided * Mass - 10 - 20 ?? * Rarity - Rare * Contents - #### Satellite Wreckage * Name - Satellite Wreckage * Distance - Undecided * Mass - 5-15 ?? * Rarity - Rare * Contents - Solar Panels #### Space Station Wreckage * Name - Space Station Wreckage * Distance - Undecided * Mass - 25-50 ?? * Rarity - Epic * Contents - Solar Panels, Machinery #### Spent Fuel Tank * Name - Spent Fuel Tank * Distance - Undecided * Mass - 5-10 ?? * Rarity - Uncommon * Contents - Rarities in order Common|Uncommon|Rare|Epic|Legendary|
