*Team Pongpong* # DP1 Team Report ## Progress of Choosing A Topic * I know I spend my time meaninglessly, so I want to make it more challenging. * I hate to eat alone, so I want friends to eat with me. * It is hard to see the army recruitment schedule at a glance, so I want to gather it in one place and watch the reviews together. * I want to travel alone, but it is very difficult. ![](https://i.imgur.com/W6MZpJ1.png) ## Experience For a few weeks at the beginning of this semester, one of our team members played Stardew Valley, a popular farming simulation game. It has peaceful music and cute graphics, so he really loved it. He experienced a lot of activities in the game world such as fishing, farming, going to desert etc. But after playing late at night, he thought "What am I actually doing in my real life?" He had spent most of his free time watching videos on Youtube or surfing on the internet. He always feels like he spends his time meaninglessly. So he usually makes a plan to do some new and special activities, but rarely put it into action. However, this example is not just his personal special case. When we see around the world, there are a lot of people who want to challenge or exprience various activies but most of them usually end up with just lying in the bed and not doing anything. Probably, there are several reasons for this;lack of information about activies, not enough motivation etc. So, we thought a they need something to strongly motivate and help them to actually execute their enthusiastic plans. ## Observation & Interview ### Overview Our targets are people who have not done something meaningful because they are bored or exhausted nowadays. Therefore, we selected our friends who are not motivated or do not have enough spare time. ### Interviewees * A(by Minseok): Other university Physics 19. He is originally a house-boy. This year, he became the student president of his department(very busy). * B(by Myeonggyu): KAIST Mechanical Engineering 19. He will join the army in a month(the extreme user). * C(by Sangmin): Other university student(majoring jewel designing). He has a lot of assignments nowadays. * D(by Changhae): Other university student(majoring industrial security). He wants to do something different, but he usually ends up with watching Youtube on weekends. ### Questions * Recently, do you have some time which you spent meaningless? If you have, did you think you wanted to spend that time differently? * For nearly two weeks, did you do some activities except for duty(e.g. assignments)? * Do you usually make plans for your vacation? * What did you actually do during the vacation? * When you feel bored, what do you do and how do you find something to do? * Have you done anything meaningful or rewarding recently? If you have, please let me know what you did. Also, why did you do it? * What do you think about achieving something and what do you think you have achieved so far? * Have you ever made ‘Bucket list’ and actually tried to achieve it? * If you have interesting goals, would you like to do it? * Have you ever thought that you should try what is in other people's Instagram stories or your friends’ experiences? * Is it convenient for you to do it alone or do you think it was more efficient to compete with others? * If you think life is boring and games are fun, why? ### Some Important Q&As Q: Recently, do you have some time which you spent meaninglessly? Many people plan to do something but they don’t really do it. → We have to make them to actually do it. * Users want to remember their goals more longer. * Users fail to keep working on their goals → Wish they can maintain their interest more longer. 2. Users want to get information about their interests frequently. * To achieve their goals, users want to get tips or material from others who already achieved that goal. 3. Users want to be more satisfied when they achieve their goal compared to before. * Wish there were a lot of tiny goals so one can feel a sense of accomplishment very often. * Users want to compete about goals with other people. * Users want the goals to be more visualized like Steam game achievement. * Many people think Youtube and Game are more interesting than the real life → Wish it was the opposite. ## Insights #### When we pulled out our insight, we thought about the user's use process. #### So we think we can separate 3part about user process. 1. Why they spend meaningless time without activity 2. If they do something meaningful, how they choose what to do? 3. why they do? #### And The first four insight shown in the ppt are insights for the user first process. thest make people waste in their spare time and spend meaningless time. 1. When we do our first activity, if we don’t have enough information about it, it’s not easy to judge if it’s something l can do. 2. Contents such as games, YouTube and Netflix make you stay in the room. 3. It is difficult to do activity outside because of the presence of corona (for now). 4. Even if we decide to do something, but we are often forgot our goals over time. #### And next four insights shown in the ppt mean how they choose what to do. These explain how people choose to do something meaningful. 5. if activities that people close to you are engaged in,then you will be more interested in. 6. Each person has different amount of extra time and money, and the level of difficulty of the activities they want to try. 7. There are people whose competition itself serves as a great motivation (people whose goal is to win the competition regardless of the activity). 8. Some people value a sense of accomplishment. #### And last two insights shown in the ppt mean why they do. These explain why people want to do. 9. Because of lacking motivation, they aren't doing it. 10. but there are many people want to spend a meaningful time 11. people have feelings to share what they has done (such as proud thing). ## Feedback #### feedback 1. How do we judge that there is no motivation? \- Users know themselves best. \- When users first enter our site or sign up for membership, we can put in a survey. #### feedback 2. It would be better that target user is narrower. \- It seems that we can cover all of them, so we will keep it as it is, but if there are lots of things to consider about users in the process, then we will reduce it. #### feedback 3. It would be better that target user’s experience is more detail. \- A person who has a lot of time because he has nothing to do, but who doesn't make good use of that time. \- A person who has too much work to do(e.g. assignments) and has less free time. #### feedback 4. It would be better there were more visual materials (Improve readability of the presentation) \- We will summarize the important contents and put them in the presentation materials next time. \- We will put in more visualization materials such as pictures and graphs. #### feedback 5. It would be good to look at existing attempts at apps and services that help people maintain their habits and achieve their goals. \- Okay, we will look at apps like 'Challengers - To Do, Habit and Goal Management'. #### feedback 6. It would be good to search for ‘gamification.’ \- We searched for 'Gamification' and it was quite similar to our direction of project. \- Thanks for the good comment. We will make achieving our goals as fun as a game. #### feedback 7. It would be good to consider ethical aspects of solutions, especially during competition. \- Okay, we'll keep that in mind. We'll make sure that the users are not involved in gambling, slander, or some stressful situations.
