# California State Parks Handbook ### Table of Contents [TOC] --- ### Introduction Welcome to the official California State Parks Handbook. This document will hold important information that all employees must know in order to perform their duties properly. All information contained inside is up to date and in use. Questions should be directed to CSP Administration. If you believe any information inside is incorrect, please contact Director SalientViper. `This document is subject to change without notice.` --- ### Zero Tolerance Policy California State Parks has "Zero-Tolerance" policies that if broken, will result in administrative action. Some of these policies include: 1. Disrespect towards tourists, fellow employees, or administration 2. Going rogue or misusing tools 3. Using vehicles, using equipment, or wearing uniforms which you do not have authorization to use 4. Discrimination, favoritism, or unfair treatment 5. Other policies as deemed pertinent by the Assistant Director or Director --- ### Chain of Command The chain of command explains the responsibilities of each rank within CSP and determines superiority within the department. #### Ranks * Director of State Parks The Director of State Parks is in charge of the entire department, they oversee all operations and ensure the group runs smoothly. * Assistant to the Director The Assistant to the Director assists the Director with any tasks as needed, they are also in charge of the Public Relations division. * Chief Deputy Director The Chief Deputy Director oversees each major division. They directly supervise the Deputy Directors, and assist with other Administration needs. * Deputy Director The Deputy Directors are in charge of either Lifeguard Operations or Peace Officer Operations. Deputy Directors are tasked with ensuring their division runs smoothly and managing all employees within it. * Peace Officer Lifeguard Supervisor II Peace Officer Lifeguard Supervisor IIs are the highest rank in the Peace Officer Division under the Deputy Director. They assist with division command needs, and ensure that the operations of the division are being carried out smoothly. * Peace Officer Lifeguard Supervisor I Peace Officer Lifeguard Supervisor Is are in charge of supervising Peace Officers during shifts, and ensuring that in-game operations are ran smoothly. Supervisors may also conduct shift briefings and assist PO Supervisor IIs with duties as needed. * Peace Officer Lifeguard Peace Officer Lifeguards are in charge of making sure that the beach is safe and dealing with unruly beachgoers. Additionally, all Peace Officers are dually tasked and certified with lifeguard and rescue operations. * Lifeguard Supervisor II Lifeguard Supervisor IIs are tasked with supervising the employees of the Lifeguard Division. They oversee all operations, and assist the Lifeguard Deputy Director as needed. * Lifeguard Supervisor I Lifeguard Supervisor Is are tasked with overseeing in-game operations, and assisting Supervisor IIs when needed. * Lifeguard II Lifeguard IIs have received higher training than Lifeguard Is, and they also receive an ATV certification. Lifeguard IIs primarily patrol the beach and provide relief when needed. In order to be promoted to Lifeguard II, Lifeguards must have attended 5 shifts, have a valid ATV certification, and be recommended by a supervisor. * Lifeguard I Lifeguard I is the first rank in the Lifeguard Division. They conduct basic duties, mainly manning towers and conducting rescues. In order to be promoted to Lifeguard I, Cadets must pass their training and exams. * Lifeguard Cadet The position of Lifeguard Cadet is the first rank obtainable within the department. This position is granted upon passing the Lifeguard Cadet Application. #### Organizational Chart The department organizational chart shows how the command structure is organized, and how division command is managed. ![](https://i.imgur.com/4CaXXFu.jpg) --- ### Uniform Regulations Proper uniforms should be worn at all times while representing CSP. Misusing uniforms or wearing uniforms you do have permission to wear will result in disciplinary action. CSP employees must always wear realistic hair or a CSP hat, may not wear any unapproved t-shirts, and must wear official CSP uniforms at all times. Additionally, packages, unrealistic animations, or other unapproved avatar elements are not to be used. Lifeguard Operations are permitted to not wear a shirt if they so choose, but if not wearing shirt, must not be wearing any tattoos or other tshirts, with the exception of realistic abs. * Lifeguard Cadet Should wear the `LG Training Shirt` with the `LG Shorts` during trainings * Lifeguard I - Lifeguard II Should wear the `LG Shirt` with the `LG Shorts` * Lifeguard Supervisors Should wear the `LG Polo` with the `LG Shorts` * Training Division Staff Should wear the `LG Instructor Polo` with the `LG Shorts` during trainings * Public Relations Staff May wear the `PR Polo` with `LG Shorts` or other approved pants --- ### Divisions #### Primary Divisions There are two Primary Divisions in CSP, the Lifeguard Operations Division and the Peace Officer Operations Division. Lifeguard Operations operate the majority of the medical and rescue emergencies on the beach, and are in charge of manning the towers on the beach and patrolling the beach. Peace Officers are in charge of keeping order at the beach, and are dually charged with law enforcement and medical services. #### Secondary Divisions There are currently two Secondary Divisions in CSP, the Training Division and the Public Relations Division. The Training Division is available for all Lifeguard Supervisors and Peace Officer Supervisors. The division conducts cadet trainings as well as regular certification trainings and refreshers. The Public Relations Division is responsible for maintaining a positive image of California State Parks through press releases and community interaction. A major focus for the division is establishing and maintaining relationships with visitors, lifeguards, peace officers, and administration. Positions are subject to availability, applications will open to all California State Parks employees whenever a spot opens up.
