# Mentorship - FAC23
What makes a good mentor?
- Friendly, communicative and attentive
- Honest, constructive feedback
- Efficiency and tooling tips
- Allows the mentee to come to their own conclusion and learn from the problem they are trying to solve
- Remind mentees to Google the exact error message to find the answer
- Coming in to mentor in-person at Space4
- Keep up-to-date with schedule changes
- See things from the mentees perspective and their current level of understanding
- Availability and activity on Discord
- Willingness to jump into the breakout room when asked
- Walking through the problem/error step by step before suggesting any solutions - debugging with the team
- Enthusiastic attitude - look like they are genuinely excited to be mentoring! See themselves as part of the group
- Not interrupting workflow! Can pop in just to see if everything is ok but not distract
- Sharing helpful resources (blogs or template repos)
- Explaining concepts - react state, promises…
- Not giving all the answers right away
- Follow the approach the team is currently taking when debugging instead of suggesting a completely different approach
- Doing stackoverflow searches
- Being present to help during project setup with setting up database, not pushing .env files to Github etc.
- Debugging with you, outside observer that asks the right questions.
- Enthusiatic, kind and motivating
