### Game Inspirations:
25/09/2022 - 40 minutes
I helped the team prepare for prototyping our game concept by researching successful pulished games within the same genre or style. I collected a series of space-related and horror games which we could study and use as the baseline of our game.
* **Warframe** - Interesting alien landscapes and out-of-the-box sci-fi character designs.
* **Destiny 2** - Great heavy armour and weapon designs.
* **Death Stranding** - Vast environments and set in a psychological/horror genre.
* **Resident Evil: Village** - Detailed body horror and groteqsue fleshy enemies
* **Dark Souls** - Unique enemies and bosses, very specific to their locations and great creature design.
* **Doom** - Very gory gameplay with elements of body horror on the map and enemies.
* **No Man's Sky** - Game crafting and scavenging mechanics.

### Character Design Inspiration

I was tasked with doing the character concept art so I began my research into different sci fi suits. I collected my references from artists which work in the Game Industry, and even pulled few ideas from completely different sources of media, like Movies and TV Shows.

I also looked more closely at individual pieces of the suit and began collecting closer references of certains parts of the outfit. This would allow me to tailor my work and match my final character concept design closer with my group's game idea and aesthetic.
I liked the idea of big glassy masks that allow for a good view while keeping the head enclosed.
### Environment Design Inspiration

When researching ideas to create my environment concept design, I began by looking at ways to potrays a human body without actually drawing the organs.
However, my group liked the idea of gory and fleshy landscapes so I started looking at body horror and ways it can be introduced into the environment.

I also studies the landscapes produced games which innitially inspired this project.
### Enemy Entities Design Inspiration

Zdzislaw Beksinski was a Polish body horror artist. His works combine many fragments of the human body to create a disturbing merge of human matter into objects like chairs, walls or crosses. I find it particularily interesting how his works feature stretchy skin sticking to everything like a plastic wrap, and would like to use the same theme in my designs.

A series of quick outlines for the design of the protagonist. While creating my silouettes I made sure to include different body types and genders so that my concepts were less cliche.
* A strong but slow hazmat suit male character
* Fast and alert female character with many bone-like structures in her suit
* A tall male character with good shooting aim
* An intelligent female character

A finished Concept Design Page for the main protagonist using a merge of two different silouettes as requested by my group. For the colour palette I chose to use cold and metalic colours to contrast with the warm and fleshy nature of the planet itself. I also considered no more then 4 colours for my design to keep harmony throughout my work.

#### Oxygen Supports

A close up of the Air Canister, visible on the protagonist's back. I maintained the same colour palette as the rest of the player's suit because it would make the whole character concept easier to look at and prevented the player from getting distracted during battles.
#### Healing Items

I added two different mechanisms of healing for the player.
* Fist Aid Kit: Following the game's body theme, I was looking to continue the organ theme and so I designed a healthpack in a form of a heart. I imagine that this item wouldn't contain the usual bandages as we see in games, but rather human stem cells which could quickly help restore the health of the player.
* Phage Vaccine: In response to Helena's Bacteriophage monster, I designed a syringe with a vaccine which would provide protection against the effects of that particular enemy. Looking for creative way to apply this item, I found that using a Tire Nozzle would be a unique way of application as the vaccine would be infused into the oxygen supply, rather then injected into the player.
## Hostile Mob Design

I drew a set of hostile entities which would be found around the map. I was looking to create grotesque manifestations of blood cells and reimagine them as hostile mutants. Using real images of red and white blood cells, I looked for ways to twist them into horrid creatures. For example, I utilised the anatomy of a white blood cell and added many eyes to signify its guarding and searching properties.

I added one more design of a hostile entity as I felt inspired by Henela's Tooth cave drawing. I took her design of the teeth and expanded upon them to create a disgusting crab-like monster. I felt particularly inspired by Dark Soul's Mimic Chest and so I decided that this monster would hide, similarily to Mimic, in between teeth rocks, jumping at the player when the occassion would be right.

As I had a little bit of time left before my assigment submission, I added one more environment concept design into my groups portfolio. This particular part of the map would be called ''Vain Halls'' which is a play on words about veins. I thought the name to be fitting, given that the player's attempts to restore the planet prove to be ironic and without a result.

### Logo Design

My team asked me to design a logo for the game. When creating my thumbnails I was thinking about how I could potray the aim of the game in one simple illustration. My final outcomes try to combine the idea of a planet, an explorer and a strange environemnt. While designing I also noticed that most of these thumbnails reminded me ofan eye - perfect for a project relating to the human body.

After discussing with my group, the popular choices were 2, 6, and 8 - with 8th design winning the most votes. I chose to render out the 8th choice.
### Teleporter
03/01/2023

When designing a teleporter I looked to create a mechanism that could in some way reflect the human body. The nervous system is a network which connects all parts of the body with the brain, and its response speed is 119mps, so it made sense to me to use that as a teleportation system.
I imagine that upon entering this device, which would be scattered around the maps, the charcater would in some way link together with the blue apendiges - which are representing the nerves - and in that way teleport into another part of the map.
### EXP Icon

This is my take on how an EXP would look like in our game. I used simple monochrome colour palette as the image would be tiny in the UI and didn't need a lot of details. I attempted to follow the same idea as in the logo, and made an attempt to make it look like an alien eye.
