Long term feedback post 3 months would be more indicative. Quizzes is probably better than a feedback to gauge a student's learning. * Comment: In barplot of teachers per team, BIIF and Bioimage are shown. * new courses in 2023 are now part of the NBIS Training catalogue * Population Genomics in Practice (Per, Andre), Autumn 2024 * Biomarker Discovery (Prasoon, Mun-Gwan), Autumn 2024 * R Foundations (Prasoon, Nima), Autumn 2024 * new courses for Autumn 2024 * ML and Biostatistics 2 (Payam, Olga, Eva) * Fair training materials by design (Elin, Nina, Jessica) * (Elixir) Spatial Omics (Åsa, Rasool), possibly in Jan 2025 * Continue to seek participation of DDLS fellows to NBIS courses * Pricing scheme for Industry, in progress * Online courses will be costed for industry but free for academics * Will involve Industry Outreach Coordinator Marcin #### TrC + CLs catch up ongoing * Autumn courses prioritised * Done: PGIP, BMD, OISB, Python * possible Lund third site for the hybrid setup of Python * BMD now a 4-day course * OISB, onsite Lund, 4/5-days * new CLs * Omics Integration, Rasool * PGIP, Andre * Intro to Python, Jeanette #### Big Talk funding * max 40K sek/year for an invited speaker * guidelines will be circulated in due time * talk will be open to the public * advertise in relevant channels #### Internal training needs * Need to start staffing * New topics recently suggested * use of Cloud computing resources * use of big databases eg TCGA, UKBB * use of co-Pilot in Rtudio etc #### new Training gdrive, in progress #### Moving from Rackham to Dardel * Can autumn courses still use Rackham resources? * From Diana Iusan, TrL UPPMAX: As long as the students do not expect to have access to data on Rackham after the end of December 2024, it is OK. When you apply for a project, it’s good to specify you understand the cluster will be decommissioned and the course participants will not be able to access the data afterwards. * Can NBIS courses now apply for project and resource allocation in Dardel? * A question from Intro to NGS CL * From Diana: Yes they should already be able to via SUPR. **Training meeting date Suggestion:** Monday 3/6 10:30-12:00 (Tentative) If this collides with team meetings, conferences etc. alternative options: Monday 3/6 13:00-14:30 Wednesday 5/6 10:30-12:00 Thursday 30/5 10:30-12:00 Friday 31/5 10:00-11:30 ## Suggested Structure for NBIS Internal Training Presentation from Mahesh https://github.com/NBISweden/Training-Tech-shorts ## Information from NBIS TrLs Follow up from last meeting see | Team | Notes | | -------- | -------- | | AIDA | | | BIIF | Hiring process going on from Uppsala node. However, we do not do in-house training to become better at teaching. Louella: we do do Train the Trainer. Richel: agreed. Tomas: you mean a short-form thing? Richel: yes, I do. Stephan: Train The Trainer follows a Carpentries approach, there are more. Louella: if you want, you can make some suggestions. Richel: sure, here are some: - Anything regarding evidence-based teaching (also called Scolarship of Teaching): what are best evidence-based practices in doing e.g. a teaching cycle, preparing a lesson, evaluating/reflecting a lesson as a teacher, do a student evaluation - The use of starting a session with a Code of Conduct: how useful according to the literature? - The use of student evaluations in improving a course, according to the literature - Should student evaluation results be open or closed, according to the literature? - Professional development as a teacher, guidelines from the literature - Rethorics - Use of voice and body language in teaching, pacing, empahsizing - Peer observation by colleagues, guidelines from the literature - Book reviews, e.g. 'Visible Learning' by Johan Hattie, 'Fundamentals of teaching' by Mike Bell - What is good teaching, according to the literature? --- ## Wrap-up & Communications * ### What to BRING BACK to your team? * Book room and dates for your Autumn courses * NB SBW Uppsala, Nov 4-5 * NB NBIS Autumn retreat dates, TBD soon * Big Talk funding * ### What to CATCH from your team? * Volunteers to teach topics of NBIS Internal Training * For those who are unable to login to Canvas, please see [doc](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mVODtl3SWqZl0XuLeJQo7nqDWVAUbF1a83r-zz24MeQ/edit?usp=drive_link) and/or email TrCs. --- ## Next meeting: 18th March Monday, 10.00H
