Results will be sent out to CLs, summarised to the NBIS managers and some numbers will be part of the annual reports - Internal training on 'Increased productivity with LLMs' - Some ideas already - 3 sessions: - How do I use it? – introductory, concrete use, ethics, privacy/sensitive info - How does it work? – overview-type explanation - What should and should I not do, really?! – advanced Ethics - Bengt Sennblad is an organizer - Martin Dahlö has had a presentation on this before. - Mimir, the internal connection to ChatGPT is not loved by everyone :-) - Wanted: another co-organiser - Please help find a co-organiser - The NGS course's acceptance letter ended up in a spam folder, sent from an NBIS email - Be aware that this might happen - The NGS course thought it would not happen to them either :-) - How to prevent this? - Reaching out to universities to whitelist NBIS emails? - Setup a mail server would help? Nanjiang (server side) and Louella (client-side) will take a look ## Information from NBIS TrLs (including the advisory program) Follow up from last meeting see [meeting notes](https://hackmd.io/25KYmnA9Soer8VDcOzROHg). | Team | Notes | | -------- | -------- | | AIDA |AIDA data hub [Data Science Platform Launch](https://datahub.aida.scilifelab.se/events/2025-03-19-data-science-platform-launch-party/), March 19-20; Information about the Data Science Platform: https://datahub.aida.scilifelab.se/data-science-platform/ | | Advisory Program | | | BIIF | Delayed on preparing the teaching material from BIIF | | Cell & molecular biology| TRR-course is cancelled due to low number of participants. Course acceptence emails for scRNAseq-course ended up in SPAM-folder | Data Management | Not so many applications for Intro DM course (11-12 participants). The fall iteration of the course will be held in Lund in September in collaboration with the Graduate Research School in Integrative Biology (IBIO) | | EvoBio | No news | | Health and Clinical | new starter fixed term one year, Snaevar Sigurdsson; Intro to NGS happening next week online, 40 accepted out of over 60 applicants; Biostats & ML 1 is proceeding with 14 applicants | | Microbiology, Immunology and Structural Biology |No news| | Systems development | No news | | UPPMAX/Compute and Storage|First NAISS wide courses started that use a 'success score' metric in their evaluations, example [here](https://uppmax.github.io/naiss_file_transfer_course/evaluations/20250307/)| ## Discussion points related the information section - The ELIXIR evaluation evaluation: - You can still submit questions you think are useful to evaluate a course at [this form](https://forms.gle/5A5JUssebL6NUZTw7). Please help us improve our evaluation questions (or establish they are perfect)! - Your can see [in this video](https://youtu.be/Xo5evD9Jb5g?si=D9UZ3Wrz7ADxOz-A) what this research is about. - You are encouraged to spread this info to all trainers. - The experiment has expanded to include more ELIXIR nodes - Should we offer an online-workshop for BYOC? - DONE :-) --- ## Follow-up on train discussions [Brainstorming notes](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1mbiwZYg_cVXdO6wpEZGc1GJjdz53jnW_) - New training formats? 1: - 2: - 3: - 4: - 5: “summer school” with parallel modular sessions with suggested paths to take - [Richel] Seems fun to me! I'd be happy to contribute. Keep me informed! - Modularity might be implemented without the summer school. Image analysis could be a small part of a course. 6: Users might like more MOOCs and/or MOOC-like training material. - For some courses the material is already available for self-studies. Could look into how to utilise CANVAS for providing some asynchronous guidance to the courses to add value to the learners. - [Richel] Seems fun to me! I'd be happy to contribute. Keep me informed! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massive_open_online_course 7: Richel's group] Teach at a place without any internet/mobile access - Sure, this may fail :-) 8: “flipped classroom” - Distributing workshop days over longer time with homework - self-paced course, always open to new participants - online/local groups - interactive exercises - “distanskurs” with 2-3 physical meetings 9: Hackathon maybe more hybrid courses online/onsite or courses in different sites - a site-coordinator is needed for the non-main site, it would be nice if at least 1 lecture could be in the remote site 10: - Self-study courses, - Building on ChatGPT, e.x. exercises 11: 1. In person, face to face, hands on work with live instructor 2. Virtual setup, videos, live features, interactive applications, simulation, twin technologies for learning 3. hybrid electronic paper media. 12: - 13: - 14: Cloud-based course material where applicants are not bound to local compute resources. 15: Outreach to new PhD students & post-docs, let them know about NBIS services, for example how to get support for designing the PhD projects, and how to get help later on with data. 16: - In person (on-site) courses, not online. - Package courses that we sell to Universities etc. We go wherever they are and can skip admin stuff like room bookings etc. 17: - Shadowing: Introduce a shadowing program where participants can observe and learn from experienced trainers or researchers. - Integrating Learning Management Systems (LMS): Utilize LMS as a support tool in courses to provide structured learning paths, additional resources, and interactive assessments. 18: - Complement on-site course material with video lectures or something like a lecture summary that can be followed as a tutorial to revisit the material at a later stage. - Have a collective website listing previously given NBIS courses with links to the most recent version of the rendered course website to make it more findable, also for those that are not so familiar with github - Introduce bring-your-own-code element to courses/drop-in or workshops - Online/on-site hackathons on specific topics, can either be e.g. with “dirty datasets” where the objective is to find out what is wrong with the dataset or allow bring your own code projects on a given (reasonably narrow) topic 19: - Multi-site teaching: - LV: Volunteers at each site and course logistics are bottlenecks - Permanent app environment for exercises, e.g. on SciLifeLab Serve, so that users not enrolled in a course can do the exercises. - Tutorials at conferences. Good for outreach! - LV: this has been done before, e.g. the SBW courses 'Data Visualization' , 'Machine learning' and Omics Integration - Recorded lectures and/or written transcripts of lectures. So that we don’t just publish slides (which can be hard to follow without explanation). However this could be a lot of work. - Started at NGI collaboration, 'NGS Lite' - Notes at slides are a useful alternative - Videos are needed for reusability (the 'R' in FAIR) sisuidrottsutbildarna.se ## AOB Set the date for the next Training Meeting Q2-2025 * Mon 26 May 10:30-12:00 +1+1+1+1 -BIIF * [Best option so far] Mon 26 May 13:00-14:30 +1+1+1+1 * Tuesday 27 May 09:30-11:00 +1+1+1 (Liu is celebrating 50 years) NB Lund Drop in is Wed 1030-1130H Any topic suggestion for a TrSG activity/discussion for the next meeting - How to advertise courses? - TODO: Collect email lists lists where courses are found - TODO: Volunteers to receive info from courses - [Richel] :man-raising-hand: - [Richel] I'd enjoy to find out how to make sure you one well/perfect - [Your suggestion here :-) ] - We have a long list to look into above. --- ## Wrap-up & Communications * ### What to BRING BACK to your team? * Next teaching literature club meeting is on Friday April 11th 2025!
