###### tags: `Guidl` `Coordination` # MSG-13 Official Timezone ## What is "Zulu" time? "Zulu" time is that which is more commonly know as "GMT" (Greenwich Mean Time). Our natural concept of time is linked to the rotation of the earth and we define the length of the day as the 24 hours it takes (on average) the earth to spin once on its axis. As time pieces became more accurate and communication became global, there needed to be a point from which all other world times were based. Since Great Britain was the world's foremost maritime power when the concept of latitude and longitude came to be, the starting point for designating longitude was the "prime meridian" which is zero degrees and runs through the Royal Greenwich Observatory, in Greenwich, England. When the concept of time zones was introduced, the "starting" point for calculating the different time zones was agreed to be the Royal Greenwich Observatory. ⛔ Unfortunately the Earth does not rotate at exactly a constant rate. Due to various scientific reasons and increased accuracy in measuring the earth's rotation, a new timescale, called Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), has been adopted and replaces the term GMT. The Navy, as well as civil aviation, uses the letter "Z" (phonetically "Zulu") to refer to the time at the prime meridian. NOAA satellites use Zulu Time or Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) as their time reference. The satellite images that appear on NOAA's Web sites are stamped in Zulu time. ⛔ ### USA and Canada Standard Time Date schedules here *State* *Standard Time* (first row) *DST Daylight Saving Time* (second row) AL Alabama GMT-6 GMT-5 AK Alaska GMT-9 GMT-8 AK Alaska (Aleutian Islands) GMT-10 NA AZ Arizona GMT-7 NA AZ Arizona (Navajo)GMT-7GMT-6 AR Arkansas GMT-6 GMT-5 CA CaliforniaGMT-8 GMT-7 CO Colorado GMT-7 GMT-6 CT ConnecticutGMT-5 GMT-4 DC District of ColumbiaGMT-5 GMT-4 DE Delaware GMT-5 GMT-4 FL FloridaGMT-5 GMT-4 FL Florida (W)GMT-6 GMT-5 GA Georgia GMT-5 GMT-4 HI Hawaii GMT-10 NA ID Idaho (N) GMT-8 GMT-7 ID Idaho (S) GMT-7 GMT-6 IL Illinois GMT-6 GMT-5 IN Indiana GMT-5 GMT-4 IN Indiana (SW / NW) GMT-6 GMT-5 IA Iowa GMT-6 GMT-5 KS Kansas GMT-6 GMT-5 KS Kansas (W)GMT-7 GMT-6 KY Kentucky (E)GMT-5 GMT-4 KY Kentucky (W)GMT-6 GMT-5 LA Louisiana GMT-6 GMT-5 ME Maine GMT-5 GMT-4 MD Maryland GMT-5 GMT-4 MA MassachusettsGMT-5 GMT-4 MI Michigan GMT-5 GMT-4 MI Michigan (W)GMT-6 GMT-5 MN MinnesotaGMT-6 GMT-5 ⛔ MS MississippiGMT-6 GMT-5 MO Missouri GMT-6 GMT-5 MT Montana GMT-7 GMT-6 NE Nebraska GMT-6 GMT-5 NE Nebraska (W)GMT-7 GMT-6 NV Nevada GMT-8 GMT-7 NH New HampshireGMT-5 GMT-4 NJ New JerseyGMT-5 GMT-4 NM New MexicoGMT-7 GMT-6 NY New York GMT-5 GMT-4 NC North Carolina GMT-5 GMT-4 ND North DakotaGMT-6 GMT-5 ND North Dakota (W)GMT-7 GMT-6 OH Ohio GMT-5 GMT-4 OK OklahomaGMT-6 GMT-5 OR Oregon GMT-8 GMT-7 OR Oregon (E)GMT-7 GMT-6 PA PennsylvaniaGMT-5 GMT-4 RI Rhode IslandGMT-5 GMT-4 SC South Carolina GMT-5 GMT-4 SD South Dakota (E)GMT-6 GMT-5 SD South Dakota (W)GMT-7 GMT-6 ⛔ TN Tennessee (E) GMT-5 GMT-4 TN Tennessee (W)GMT-6 GMT-5 TX TexasGMT-6 GMT-5 TX Texas (W)GMT-7 GMT-6 UT Utah GMT-7 GMT-6 VT Vermont GMT-5 GMT-4 VA Virginia GMT-5 GMT-4 WA Washington GMT-8 GMT-7 WV West VirginiaGMT-5 GMT-4 WI WisconsinGMT-6 GMT-5 WY Wyoming GMT-7 GMT-6 ⛔ Ok so enough with the technical stuff. How do I use it? Well from this point forward we are to use Zulu Time in our attack/under attack templates. It's pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Let's just say that we want an attack to land at 21:00 Central Daylight time. Figure out what you add/subtract from Zulu to figure out CDT. Look above and see that states that are in CDT is GMT-5 or Zulu-5. So this is to say that we are 5hrs behind Zulu time. So if it is 21:00 on Aug 6 then add five hours making it 02:00 Aug 7. Since we are two hours past midnight the date will also change to the next day. ⛔ Let's try another. Ok if we want to attack at 09:30 Zulu 6 Dec and we are on the Eastern time zone. At this point we are back on standard time( no daylight savings) so eastern time is Zulu-5 making it 04:30 EST 6 Dec. I know it sounds confusing but after you figure out what time zone you are on and what you need to subtract that's it. Zulu-? =your time zone. If you still have questions feel free to PM me or another member or just google it. ⛔ Ok one more. If I want to attack at 13:00 and I'm on Eastern Daylight Time I would say that the attack is to land at 17:00 Zulu. Then if another member is to help and they live in Pacific time they know by subtracting 7 that the attack will land at 10:00 pacific daylight time.
