## Web Credibility
[Prince Warned Humanity About WEF’s Depopulation Agenda in 1996 ](https://thepeoplesvoice.tv/prince-warned-humanity-about-wefs-depopulation-agenda-in-1996/)
The web page above is rooted from a series of fake news websites that have been feeding far left enthusiasts fake news for years. Under the name *thepeoplesvoice*, is just the recent URL change; having previously been called *yournewswire.com*, then becoming *newspunch.com*. The first red flag was the domain manipulation, having a URL ending in ".tv" is reason to research the credibility of this news site. Not only is the domain eye catching but the website is flooded with pop up advertisements and low quality news stories infused with poorly photoshopped images. The relevance of the article is unrealistic; it was released September 20, 2023 and yet it discusses COVID-19 tracker infested vaccine conspiracies and the so-called Illuminati rebel, Prince, who died in 2016. This begs the question, why talk about conspiracies from years ago when science has proved the validity of vaccines by using the voice of a man whom no one can speak for due to his passing? When researching other sources to corroborate the claim that "Prince made reference to Osama bin Laden" during his 1998 Germany concert, I found another website "[dainikbidyaloy.com](https://dainikbidyaloy.com/2023/09/21/prince-warned-humanity-about-wefs-depopulation-agenda-in-1996/)" with copy paste the same article under the author name Michael Baxter. What's ironic is that the author for the *thepeoplesvoice* article is named Baxter Dmitry. With a claim this exaggerated, there are no room for coincidents of similar authors. Along with the lack of sources for quotes and lethal claims, this website shares biased fictitious news with a biased audience.
## Wikipedia Evaluation
The claim that Joseph Reagle worked at the World Wide Web Consortium has clear evidence and various citing sources to prove his time as an employee there. The claim that Reagle's book, *Good Faith Collaboration*, was best-selling can not be proved. There should be data of books sold and the year it became best-selling instead of just reciting the contents within the book.
According to its history, the page was first created on August 1, 2011.
### Reading Response
People yearn to be informed and will go to any extent to get the information they’re looking for that verifies their opinion. As we discussed in prior weeks, agnotology is the spread of misinformation; and fake news is the epitome of misinformation. Joyce Valenza’s article on finding truthful information is a great tool to guide yourself during research. Valenza highlights the fact that people are eager to consume knowledge but also free to spread it in return, whether factual or not. With never ending technological advancements, one would assume that the truth would be easier to find than ever, yet “[we’re] taken aback at a student’s lack of preparation” (Valenza, 2016). Society is so accustomed to taking the face value answer without questioning the person behind that information and its accuracy to our current societal standards.
Fake media can be discovered on every platform of social media; Facebook, Instagram, Reddit. But it also is found on our “trusted” search applications such as Google and Yahoo. Companies like Facebook and Google try to combat the surfacing of fake news on their platforms but with people now using fake news as a weapon of social destruction, it’s difficult to catch.
Obtaining media literacy is crucial to form an opinion based on facts in our day and age. I’ve been a victim of hearing rumors/false information online and debating with others based on unfactual statements. It’s good to have media literacy but what’s to keep us as constant online users to trust our gut if we can’t trust the sophisticated platforms that are built upon thousands of codes?
