# Forcefields or how to fix the tiny fan issue forever with cool sci-fy Buildable forcefields machines or the definitive solution for tiny fans and ship building. Tiny fans have always been an issue mostly on people that want to try and customize their ships midround and it has always been an entity that can be easily abusable, right now all maps are using directional fans that while less abusable than the whole tile tiny fans this still have the issue that you cannot adapt your ship midround, this tries to solve said issue while also adding more features. the requirements for how it should work are: * It will be a directional. * two way machine so it works on both faces. * set up to the floor layer and built like a shuttle door. * able to be linked so other ship systems automatically turn them on. * will require porwer for it to work. * be able to be EMPd. * have internal batteries that will maintain them working in case of a power shutdown. * have an operational limit. * break by shorting a fusible that needs to be replaced on the unit by a screwdiver and welding check to access the panel manualy. in total this would allow for 3 types of forcefield machines that each will make a different color(type) of forcefield. 1. Yellow forcefield will be able to stop atmos circulation just like the directional tiny fans do right now with the caveat that it would break the forcefield once pressure reacher an upper dangerous limit, those of a plasma fire or explosion for example. (meant to be build on the airlocks of all maps/shuttles) 2. Blue forcefield will stop all sorts of high velocity projectiles and objects like bullets and lasers but not hand tossed things like grenades, this will be taking all the damage and transferring it to the fusible (meant to be build around on the outside of some maps/shuttles) 3. Red forcefield will stop any slow velocity objects like mobs and hand toss things. mobs will not be able to pass while activated, but it will let projectiles and lasers to pass trough and should break only after a really considerable amount of physical force is applied at once, like multiple people with weapons hitting it, meant to be used as crowd control machines or as doors for NFSD ship prison cells or also for expedition ships. (meant to be build as cell doors or hallway blockers) the way it should kinda look should be as this little drawing as example: ![forcefield machine](https://hackmd.io/_uploads/SJrEaBvPyx.jpg) ## Update [03/23/2025] ### Mapping and design for shuttles ![NT-shuttle](https://hackmd.io/_uploads/SJmAEdankx.png) On the image above is more or less a sumarisation of how the forcefields should be mapped and how it would affect on the overall design of the ship. Most important and notably is that the Atmos forcefields (yellow) should strictly be placed on the antechamber of the atmos docks of a ship or POI, ideally it should also be used to replace the airtight plastic flaps on the ship designs for regular flaps and then the forcefield after it. The mob force fields ideally it would act as cool doors agaisnt criminals or unwanted individuals from where you can shoot proyectiles trough. be it used for imprisonment or as a layer of defence inside a bigger shuttle. The kinetic forcefield ideal use would be as the old sacrificial grille layer most stations have against meteors to hould up against incoming projectiles, on the case of the forcefield receiving enough damage it would burn off its fusible and turn off. Also this would add a layer of strategy to ship to ship combat where the oposing forced would steer the ship on such a way to avoid as much damage or to try to hit on the shuttle weak spots, plus having a layer of repair to the ship depending on its design. ### Mid round customization The flatpacks for all forcefields could be approached on 2 ways. Either locked behind research for science ships to build and sell the forcefields as needed. OR Have the forcefields readily available for people to buy of from vendors. both considerations have its owns pros and cons but those can be discussed after any minimum viable product is made out of this idea.
