  • Looking at the Ethereum Roadmap I have been conflicted about The Purge, deleting history (and historical state), sounds like the antithesis of a public blockchain. During the EPF Study Group I finally understood that History and State Expiry are actually needed to stop the growth and even lower full node requirements, which will enable more nodes to run and hopefully increase the network's decentralization (Talk by Piper Merriam explaining the Purge). Some of the solutions for archival data didn't seem to friendly (relying on centralized services, torrenting archival files). Portal on the other hand, is currently being developed as a network to store and serve historical Ethereum data that will support light clients. I've decided to focus on Portal during my fellowship. About a month ago I had reached out to Piper to know where I could help the Portal network out (I didn't know we where not supposed to contact teams/mentors back then, 😅). He pointed me to Glados which is Portal's Network monitoring and auditing application. This week I've: Setup an instance of Glados Did a not-too-deep dive on the Glados repo and DB
