## **Ban Policy**
### **Modifiers**
- **LTAP:** Leaving to avoid punishment, it will extend the lenght of the bans/notes by no more than [x3] from from the original intended sentence.
- **Note acumulation:** Check previous notes of the account before deciding on the lentgh times of any notes/bans applied.
- **Repeated offences:** repeated offences escalate the lenght/severerity of the note/ban to the next time braket or goes from a note to a ban.
### **Timed Bans:**
**Ban Escalation:**
A recurring history of bans for the same rule breaks within a 6 month period escalate punishment to the next level. The longer and/or higher frequency of the bans, the greater the escalation.
A history of the same rulebreak extending beyond six months should still be taken into account, however it is not as crucial.
If you are escalating the ban time, please inform the player why.
### **Ban Escalation**
| Minutes | Hours | Justification/Criteria |
|:-------- |:--------:| --------:|
| 180 Minutes | 3 Hours | A minor ban, this should be used for minor incidents that warrant a punishment instead of a warning. |
| 1440 Minutes | 24 Hours | While typically an escalation ban only, some more severe incidents may merit a 24 hour ban without a prior 3 hour ban. Some examples are; deliberately disconnecting when being spoken to about a more minor issue, failure to follow staff instructions or very minor Rule 1 breaches. |
| 4320 Minutes | 72 Hours (3 Days) | Typical ban for minor breaches of Rule 1 or semi-serious griefing incidents, a three day ban is the highest ban typically given out day to day and incidents rarely require harsher punishments. |
| 10080 Minutes | 7 Days | The week ban is the highest ban given out day to day, it should only be used in severe incidents such as widespread grief or non-malicious multikeying. |
| 40320 Minutes | One Month (28 Days) | The prelude to permanent bans, a month ban should only be applied in cases of extreme grief, severe 18+ content or metacommunication. One Month bans are not to be given for anything short of an Extreme incident, or through Ban Escalation. |
| Permanent | Permanent | See Below |
### **Incident Severity Scale**
| Severity | Rules | Usual Ban |
|:-------- |:--------:| --------:|
| Very Minor | Very Minor incidents are those that do not affect others or otherwise should not be receiving bans. Exceptions being through repetitive breaches. | Warning |
| Minor | Most Roleplay Rule breaks will be Minor or Very Minor incidents. | Warning - 3 Hours |
| Semi-Serious | Borderline violations of our Zero Tolerance Rules. General Rule violations are usually Semi-Serious incidents. | 3 Hours - 24 Hours |
| Serious | Serious breaches of the General Rules, heavily escalated breaches of the Roleplay Rules or minor Cardinal Rule breaks. | 24 Hours - 72 Hours |
| Very Serious | Outright breaches of the Cardinal Rules, or large-scale breaches of other rules. | 72 Hours - Seven Days |
| Extreme | A typical “Extreme” incident would be massive scale grief, spreading of 18+ content, ban-evasion etc. | Seven Days - One Month+ |
### **Job Bans**
**Banning One Job:**
A Job Ban should only be applied when someone breaks a rule using facilities, abilities or powers specific to a certain role.
E.g. A doctor/paramedic griefing with chemicals, NFSD buying ships to rip IFF consoles to sell to people or an engineer shocking and bolting all the doors on the vessel for no reason.
**Banning Multiple Jobs:**
Banning multiple jobs should be done when a player is breaking rules using facilities, abilities or powers specific to a certain range of roles.
E.g. If you ban someone for breaking Space Law as a Deputy, they should also receive a Bailiff and Sheriff job ban.
**Repeat Offenders:**
If someone manages to land a jobban on the same role three times, the jobban will stand for a minimum of 180 days. They’re evidently not learning what the issue is.
### **Whitelist Bans and Strikes**
A Whitelist Ban will be considered the equivalent of an **appeal only roleban** from any of the available whitelisted roles and it will be handled on a player per player basis after an **#admin-poll** is done over it.
The way to call unpon a whitelist removal poll will be once a player has reached 3 strikes on their remarks history, be it for a combination of any of this **factors:**
- higher severity admin notes related to the whitelisted roles.
- roleban related to any of the whitelisted roles.
**clarifiactions and requirements:**
The note should be verbose enough to make anyone reading it understand what happened, why the strike was issued and the name of the role the player was acting as.
And if you consider that something a whitelisted player did was not worth of a whitelist strike then it either has to be a Low or Medium note.
Once 2 strikes are reached the player must be warned that their whitelist might be jeopardy and that the next incident will result on a poll between the admin staff to decide if their whitelist will be removed.
**voting:**
Any and all whitelist strike removal polls should not last less than 3 days.
In the case of the whitelist removal not passing then any next incidents will also call upon a new whitelist removal poll.
Strikes will remain relevant as long as the note/ban is visible on the database, so 1 year from the day the strike was issued.
### **Permanent/Appeal only Bans**
The following section will outline the criteria that must be met for a permanent ban to be viable. It is by no means a concrete list, but you should attempt to follow them. It will also detail how a permanent ban will be processed, what it entails, and how appeals will be handled.
**Requirements:**
A permanent ban may not be applied for unless the following conditions have been met. Exceptional circumstances may exempt some or all of these conditions.
The player must have received any of the following bans;
- A one month ban for the same offence.
- A total of 672 hours (28 days) banned in the past 12 months for any offence(s).
The player should be informed prior to a permanent ban is being filed.
### **Probation**
Any permanent ban that is lifted after appeal has a mandatory three month probation during which period any bans must be 24 hour bans at minimum. Should a probationary player receive 72 hours of bans while on probation they are to be banned for one month, and a permanent ban request filed again.
Playtime will be checked before the probationary period ends. Scraping 24 hours of playtime across the three months for example is not enough for the Probation period to be functional, and will result in extension.
### **True Permanent Ban**
If a probationary period is failed, or a player receives a second permanent ban for other reasons, this is PERMANENT. They will have been given the chance to reform after their month ban and prior permanent ban. Playing on the server is a privilege, if a player is unable to uphold the rules after so many chances they do not deserve that privilege.
In the event that a player’s prior permanent ban was before the introduction of this document, or is more than 12 months old, exceptions to this may be made by the Head Admin or a collective decision by the admin team to allow an appeal.
### **Community Ban**
A community ban is placed in extreme cases, typically continual harassment or threatening of players/staff, server raiding or other major incidents. Players subject to a community ban and thus barred from the Forums, Discord, Wiki, and Server may appeal their ban by directly contacting the Head Admin which will then be sent to the Head Staff to review.
The procedure to decide and issue a community ban would be as follows:
- Start an admin vote after evidence of the above issues are observed and recorded and ideally started by a head admin.
- The duration of the vote should last between 3 to 7 days and will require at least 80% of approval. (not voting will be considered as abstaining)
- If new information that may affect the outcome of the ban then an extention can be made of at least 3 days.
A community ban may not be appealed if the player received a prior permanent ban, or their community ban was placed after the reception of a standing permanent server ban.
