# Update `systemd` (Ubuntu Focal Fossa)

Check `systemd` version
```
systemd --version
```
My output was:
systemd 245 (245.4-4ubuntu3)
+PAM +AUDIT +SELINUX +IMA +APPARMOR +SMACK +SYSVINIT +UTMP +LIBCRYPTSETUP +GCRYPT +GNUTLS +ACL +XZ +LZ4 +SECCOMP +BLKID +ELFUTILS +KMOD +IDN2 -IDN +PCRE2 default-hierarchy=hybrid
For some reason, this version contains a bug and letting me can't go on my works. I decided to update it.
## Update Method
```
sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ubuntu-focal.list
```
Add these sources
```
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-updates main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-security main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-proposed main restricted universe multiverse
```
Update date apt
```
sudo apt update
```
Check Usable Version:
```
apt-cache policy systemd
```
My output was:
systemd:
Installed: 245.4-4ubuntu3
Candidate: 245.4-4ubuntu3.24
Version table:
245.4-4ubuntu3.24 500
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-updates/main amd64 Packages
245.4-4ubuntu3.20 500
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-security/main amd64 Packages
*** 245.4-4ubuntu3 500
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
Now we can see there is a new version `245.4-4ubuntu3.24`. We can update it by
```
sudo apt install systemd=245.4-4ubuntu3.24
```
Check `systemd` version again
```
systemd --version
```
There MY NEW VERSION go!
systemd 245 (245.4-4ubuntu3.24)
