# Study Note 4 : How to write a report

There are ten steps to write a good report:
## Step 1: Decide on the 'Terms of reference'
Basicly its means you need to make sure what the task want you to do. for example the report needed to write on 10 pages report so make sure you will make a 10 pages report.
you need to consider:
1. content
1. important information
1. reason this report needed
1. when is it needed
1. target, who will read this report
## Step 2: Decide on the procedure
plan what you will do
you need to find what activities you need to do for example:
1. record data
1. interview or observe people
1. is background reading necessary?
## Step 3: Find the information
Find the information you needed to finish the report. Make sure the report is relevant and appropriate.
## Step 4: Decide on the structure
Decide how you should write the report
A report can include these parts:
1. A title page.
2. Executive summary.
1. Contents.
1. An introduction.
1. Terms of reference.
1. Procedure.
1. Findings.
1. Conclusions.
1. Recommendations.
1. References/Bibliography.
1. Appendices.
## Step 5: Draft the first part of your report
After you figured out your structure, you can draft the information you gathered to fill the report
## Step 6: Analyse your findings and draw conclusions
Analyze what you have found, also try to find important findings based on your results.
## Step 7: Make recommendations
Decide the recommendations that you find based on the problem.
these are steps that can help you find the recommendations:
1. reread the findings and conclusions
1. think about the readers
1. check is your recommendations logical
1. ensure you include detail for the reader
## Step 8: Draft the executive summary and table of contents
sometime you will need to add executive summary for your report. for the table of contents you can use learn how to easily generate that using text editor (word for example)
## Step 9: Compile a reference list
compile the reference you have used, using application such as mendeley could help you :)
## Step 10: Revise your draft report
re-checking your works is important. sometime you need other person to help you check your works to make it easy for other to understand you rreport
