In this session we will be engaging in a series of exercises and prompts for reflecting on protocols of consent within movement practices and drawing a bridge with protocols of consent in web environments.

## Mapping Daily Online Presence π π± β¨
:hourglass_flowing_sand: 10 min
* **Create a list of the online services and apps you use day-to-day**. How many times a day do you use those apps/ websites? Use specific colors or write in different sizes according to use.
* For eg.: social media β news β chats β email β transit apps β maps β shopping β banking β search engine β council or goverment websites...
**π« Discussion**
:hourglass_flowing_sand: 10 min
* **What data is being collected?**
* For eg.: your date of birth β your location β your address β your phone number β the size of your underwear...
* Have you ever thought about what data is shared through these apps and online services?
* How do you feel this data represents you or not?

## Online Tracking πΎ π
:hourglass_flowing_sand: 10 min
> Have you ever read a newspaper and noticed a stranger reading it over your shoulder? Reading the news online is like having Google, Facebook, or Twitter doing the same thing. Known as "third party trackers", these companies collect data about who you are, what youβre reading and what youβre interested in, usually without you ever knowing it.
> Data about our device and online behaviour enables companies to link our likes and interests directly to us and to create profiles about us, which are then subsequently sold to advertisers.

## Consentful Technology = > having control over our digital bodies

**Consent /kΙnβsent/**
*Noun:* Permission for something to happen or
agreement to do something.
*Verb:* Give permission for something to happen.
> Digital bodies are made up of pieces of personal data. Like our physical bodies, our digital bodies exist in relationship with others and can participate in communities. They can also experience harm. Although the harm to them might not be physical, our digital bodies are frequently acted upon in non-consensual ways.
> With our digital bodies, there is also more to consent than a βyesβ or βno.β As our physical bodies become increasingly interlinked with our digital bodies, harm canβt be prevented by trying to avoid technology. And harm canβt be justified because someone checked a box that said βI agree to these terms and conditions.β
> Consentful technologies are applications and spaces in which consent underlies all aspects, from the way they are developed, to how data is stored and accessed, to the way interactions happen between users. We use consentful instead of βconsensualβ because the latter implies a singular ask or interaction. Consentful technology is about a holistic and ongoing approach to consent.

## Consent Protocols
:hourglass_flowing_sand: 10 min
In groups:
* Analyse the examples of Deceptive Design Patterns:
* [Dark Patterns website](https://darkpatterns.uxp2.com/);
* [Deceptive Design website](https://www.deceptive.design/hall-of-shame);
* Do you have similar experiences? Share them with the group.
> 'Deceptive design patterns are tricks used by websites and apps to get you to do things you might not otherwise do, like buy things, sign up for services or switch your settings.
> (...) Deceptive design patterns show up as tricky color schemes, frustrating mazes, sneaky designs and confusing language. Websites use these techniques to influence your behavior into a direction that benefits them more than it benefits you.'
