# IPE English Website ### INTRODUCTION The Interdisciplinary Program of Engineering (IPE) is a very unique department in National Tsing Hua University because it allows for a more flexible curriculum. In the students' freshman year, they will learn the basics of engineering. Then, from the second year, they can choose to either go with the interdisciplinary program or join one of the other four deparments in the College of Engineering. Our department offers solid courses, a strong faculty, and excellent experimental facilities. Students also have a chance to join robot fabrication workshops, an in-school racing team, or a variety of extracurriculum activities. With rigorous training and concrete fundamental knowledge, graduates have an abundance of opportunities in their future career. IPE would be your best choice if you are looking for a flexible, comprehensive education in engineering. <br> **What is the Interdisciplinary Program?** The Interdisciplinary Program lets student choose one of four major disciplines in the College of Engineering(Chemical Engineering, Power Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management) as their First Specialty. Then, they can choose one of the other minor disciplines from any other department in National Tsing Hua University as their Second Specialty. If students don't choose the Interdisciplinary Program in their sophomore year, they can join one of the four departments in the College of Engineering. <br> **The Pi Mentality** The Interdisciplinary Program of Engineering encourages students to broaden their abilities by combining two disciplines. We believe that it is a crucial and beneficial skill to be able to bridge the gap between different professions. <br> <br> ### CURRICULUM **Curriculum** Students have to complete the following required courses in their first year. There is also an Engineering Introduction Class with professors from the four departments of engineering to help students get oriented with the different engineering regimens. <br> Before the start of the sophomore year, you can choose one of the two options: **Interdisciplinary Program** Choose one of the departments in the College of Engineering(Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Power Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering & Engineering Management) as your first specialty, then select one of the departments in National Tsing Hua University as your second specialty. You will finish a set of courses determined by the departments and complete an unique curriculum to receive a diploma in the Interdisciplinary Program of Engineering. **Streaming** Choose one of the departments in the College of Engineering as your major. You will receive a bachelor's degree of your choosen department upon completion. <br> **First Specialty** The programs are designed to equip students with a solid fundamental and skills in engineering and applied science. Students will choose one of the departments in the College of Engineering as their first specialty. **Second Specialty** Many students have opted to study for a second specialty in recent years.
