# Epoch Zero FAQ
**What is Epoch Zero?**
Epoch Zero is a special pre-launch event for a new community-driven platform for experiments in decentralized governance called Octant. During this special round of funding, community members will choose on Snapshot how to distribute $1M worth of ETH among our early stage public goods partners.
**What is Octant?**
Octant is a novel testing ground for conducting governance experiments that directly impact the allocation of rewards from staking up to 100,000 ETH.
The platform was developed by the Golem Foundation to test various hypotheses around community engagement, participatory funding of public goods, and user-centered governance.
Stage one will explore sustainable models for community-funded public good projects.
To find out more about Octant, please visit the website: https://octant.build.
**How can I participate in Epoch Zero?**
To have a say in how the $1M's worth of the ETH reward pool in Epoch Zero will be distributed, you need to receive an Epoch Zero Token (EZT) from us.
The EZT is a POAP that will be distributed for free to active members of the early Octant community, individuals who'll participate in our Twitter spaces in the coming weeks, and those who visit Octant's booths at Funding the Commons (July 15-16), and EtHCC (July 17-20) in Paris.
This token will grant recipients gated voting access to a Snapshot poll, allowing eligible participants to choose which projects they would like to support from the Octant reward pool.
**What projects can I support with my vote?**
You can choose from a list of 10 different projects, listed here in alphabetical order:

clr.fund consists of a matching pool and a funding round. Philanthropic individuals or organizations contribute to the matching pool so as to have those funds efficiently allocated according to community preference. Users contribute directly to projects they value and, in doing so, earn a share of the matching pool for the projects, along with their contribution. Effectively increasing the value of their contribution.

###
**When will the Epoch Zero poll take place?**
The Epoch Zero poll will be conducted on Snapshot from July 21 to July 28, 2023. Only individuals with an Epoch Zero Token will be eligible to participate. Weighted voting will be utilized, and participants will be able to change their votes as many times as they wish during the live polling period.
**When will Octant's Epoch One start?**
Octant's Epoch One will commence shortly after the conclusion of the Epoch Zero Snapshot poll and the official announcement of the community-chosen beneficiaries.
Stay tuned on our social media channels for the official launch announcement.
**How will Epoch One differ from Epoch Zero?**
Epoch Zero simply is a vote on Snapshot. For Epoch One, and all subsequent Octant epochs we will use the official Octant app, where users will be able to browse the community-curated list of projects eligible to receive Octant funding, make allocation decisions, see allocations made by others, and perform various related actions.
There will be a change in the gating method for Epoch One. Access tokens will no longer be issued. Instead, participation in the Octant community will be open to anyone who locks at least 100 GLM into Octant for a full epoch. Octant's GLM time-locking mechanism is non-custodial, ensuring users have full control over their funds and the ability to unlock them at any time.
The testnet version of the Octant app is available at https://octant.app. If you would like to assist us in testing it for its official release, please refer to the Octant documentation at https://docs.octant.app/using-the-app
