# Version 1 **Title:** Empowering Innovation: Build On L2's Awards VLS $150,000 Grant for Integration with Greenlight **Content:** In the fast-paced world of Bitcoin, Build On L2 (BOL2) is a community initiative leading the charge, forging powerful connections among developers, entrepreneurs, and Bitcoiners globally. Today, we're proud to announce our support for the Validating Lightning Signer project (VLS) through a $150,000 grant. VLS is a non-commercial open-source initiative that develops software for diverse Lightning Network applications. Through our grant, the VLS team will significantly advance the new Rust library, engineered for seamless operation across multiple platforms, including mobile apps. One of the standout capabilities of the VLS software is its ability to operate on hardware security modules (HSMs). By segregating the keys from the node, VLS provides an extra layer of security to large-scale Lightning nodes, a feature that inspired us to extend our support. The integration of VLS has progressed remarkably. We've successfully completed the first phase, with the next phase set to focus on implementing end-to-end verification as a standard VLS policy. This phased approach ensures a streamlined and effective integration process. The beauty of the new Rust library lies in its ability to simplify powerful features across various platforms. By making these features more accessible, we expect to encourage a broader adoption and increased use of the Lightning Network for Bitcoin transactions. In more good news, the VLS signer is now fully integrated with Greenlight. Users of the gl-client or additional layers like the Breez SDK can now access the VLS signer with ease, without any need for modifications. This grant represents our commitment to fostering a robust and innovative Lightning Network ecosystem. We, the BOL2 community, are excited to witness this positive development and remain dedicated to nurturing growth in the Bitcoin network. --- # Version 2 **Title:** Build On L2 supports VLS integration into Greenlight with $150,000 grant **Content:** Build On L2 (BOL2) is a community initiative that connects developers, entrepreneurs, and Bitcoiners from around the world to build on Core Lightning and the Liquid Network. Today, we’re proud to announce our support for the Validating Lightning Signer project (VLS) through a $150,000 grant. VLS is a non-commercial open-source initiative that develops software for diverse Lightning Network applications. Through the BOL2 grant, the VLS team will develop a new Rust library for Lightning Signers, engineered for seamless operation across multiple platforms, including mobile apps. One of the standout capabilities of the VLS software is its ability to operate on hardware security modules (HSMs) to safeguard large-scale Lightning nodes and can improve Lightning node security by segregating the keys from the node. This is an advanced feature that we are thrilled to see being added back to Core Lightning and Greenlight for which the decision to engage the VLS team’s expertise through the grant offering was made. The grant is divided into the following phases: Phase 1: VLS integration (completed) Phase 2: End-to-end verification implementation as a policy in VLS. The new Rust library will make it easier for companies and users to take advantage of powerful features on different platforms, which will ultimately lead to greater adoption and usage of the Lightning Network for Bitcoin transactions. In more good news, the VLS signer is now fully integrated with Greenlight. Developers building with the gl-client or additional layers like the Breez SDK can now access the VLS signer with ease, without any need for modifications. The BOL2 community is excited to see this is a positive development for the entire Lightning Network ecosystem. This grant represents our commitment to fostering a robust and innovative Lightning Network ecosystem.
