Hidden *Required * Our project, the DWeb Fellowship Program, brings decentralized web technologists and organizers to DWeb Camp from around the world, in order to learn from their on the ground experiences and the Fellows to learn about other decentralized web and Web3 technologies that they can use in their communities. * Our Fellows write blog posts and give presentations following their experience at DWeb Camp, and perhaps more importantly, have actively collaborated with each other and with other projects in the DWeb space. * Core to the Fellowship program is to include new perspectives to the DWeb/Web3 space and diversify the community of builders of the next Webs. If you've participated in past grant rounds, please share any new updates or milestones from the prior months Public Optional * We participated in past grant rounds to raise funds our Fellowship program ahead of Camp last year in 2022. Our funds went directly to cover the cost of travel and camp registration for our 25 Fellows that attend from 11 countries. It was hugely successful in that the Fellows found the experience extremely rewarding, and other campers felt that their presence was integral to the spirit of the event. * This year, we received 136 applicants from over 30+ countries with an overwhelming number of stellar candidates. We are hoping that by participating in this Gitcoin round, we are able to raise funds to bring even more Fellows this year. Others build p2p mapping tools with indigenous people in the Amazon to defend their land against loggers. We ask your support to bring as many of these inspiring technologists and organizers to our camp in Northern California as possible. > *"DWeb Camp was a place to share questions, experiences, concerns and joys regarding our relation to technologies...For almost a week, people from diverse walks of life had the opportunity and privilege to give ourselves the time and place to get together and weave ideas towards the decentralization of the internet.*" > > – 2022 DWeb Fellows, Dana Beltrán Barbosa & María Alvarez Malvido from their article, *[Rethinking technologies. Dreaming collectively at DWeb](https://www.apc.org/en/blog/rethinking-technologies-dreaming-collectively-dweb)* **In order to build a truly equitable decentralized web, we need to lift up those who work with and for under-resourced communities.** That’s why we created the [DWeb Fellowship Program](https://dwebcamp.org/fellowships/). We believe tools are always better when the people who use them have a seat at the table. Our Fellows work on real-world problems around the world, with and for marginalized communities. They bring unique knowledge, skills, and on-the-ground experience to DWeb Camp for an exchange of ideas and technologies. We believe that bringing people together physically in nature to make lifelong ties is a crucial path to building better decentralized technologies for everyone. ![](https://i.imgur.com/I58Rb6A.jpg) Former DWeb Fellow, Ben Tairea (above), is the founder of Ahau.io, harnessing decentralized technologies that preserve and share cultural records and narratives from tribal and Maori people on servers that they own and control. Funds raised through this grant will go towards covering Fellows’ cost of travel, accommodations, and Camp registration. ![](https://i.imgur.com/aLGmryf.jpg) ### What is DWeb Camp? Since 2016, the DWeb and its sponsor, Gatherings for Good, has organized in-person and virtual convenings around building a better decentralized Web that actualizes principles of human agency, mutual respect, and ecological awareness. Our events have attracted thousands of coders, organizers, artists, academics, and policymakers from around the world. They have been a key meeting place for people to share their projects and ideas and build lasting collaborative relationships. DWeb Camp 2022 was our last large gathering. We are now organizing our third camp, taking place June 21-25. 2023 in Northern California. But global inflation and setbacks in the tech sector have made it harder than ever for global technologists to participate. Your support will ensure greater equity, diversity, and opportunity for deserving technologists and organizers. ![](https://i.imgur.com/J6yJusH.jpg)
