# A Moonbirds Story - Short animated feature powered by Atrium ![](https://i.imgur.com/FRPDyTy.png) ## Section 1: Key details ### TL;DR: We propose commissioning Atrium creators to create a cinematic 1:10-1:20 min animated short story. We have seen communities that leverage animated content have the ability to capture the attention of the space, develop their brand and identity further, and create a buzz of excitement. Over the course of ~ 8 weeks - bring the expertise of a Pixar veteran to the Moonbirds ecosystem enabling us to create a foundational animated short story & proliferate the brand!. ### Amount requested: Ask - $25,000 Output - 1:10-1:20 min of cinematic content. See detailed breakdown below. Do you want permission to use the Moonbirds name and/or logo?: Yes **Note: While not necessary, the ability to do so would add to the provenance of this first animation.* ### Mission alignment: We believe that starting with a strong content/media proposal will elevate the standing of Moonbirds within the Web3 community and set the stage to establish it as a premier content powerhouse in the space. Building an expansive story world around Moonbirds IP empowers holders and creators alike to imagine worlds and storylines that propel the brand beyond web3 and into mainstream culture. By introducing a growing content ecosystem, we signal to creators everywhere that the space is a new avenue to onboard talent that can fuel the next movement in storytelling. ### Project type: Animation (Content Creation) ### Backers: [Inaros](https://twitter.com/Inaros_SF) [AllC](https://twitter.com/allcl9) [Axu](https://twitter.com/AxuETH) # Section 2: About the project ### Atrium x Moonbird Mission Having spent some time with the community we know that deciding on a guiding purpose is one of the aspects that is at the forefront of discussion. We believe that tying that purpose into an animation at launch is a great way to leverage the expereince and talent of our storytellers and introduce the guiding principles of the MoonBirds DAO to people within and beyond Web3 ### How does it benefit the Moonbirds holder community? - While Proof builds out the canon of Moonbirds alongside UTA, the DAO can co-create in a bottomsup fashion - an expansive world of non-canon Moonbirds content. - Few projects have mastered leveraging content to build brand and awareness for their communities. This proposal serves as a test of the communities appetite and gauge interest to develop more in the future. Content has a unqiue ability to promote other DAO initiatives, showcase product creations, and create a buzz of wonder around what a future episode might entail. An animation that depicts the purpose of MoonBirds would also present an interesting historical artifact if the DAO chose to pursue minting the content in a similar fashion to what Nouns did recently. ### Who are you and why are you the right person to bring your idea to life? ![](https://europe1.discourse-cdn.com/standard21/uploads/nouns/optimized/2X/e/eea1fe1b1a05d83b75e4260ea6e9a44c654ae275_2_1264x514.jpeg) Atrium is a growing collective of best cryptonative animators, filmmakers, writers and more with experience ranging from Pixar, Marvel, Song, Dreamworks. They have been pulling your heartstrings for years through some of the biggest hits we have seen in the animation industry. We feel uniquely positioned to create content that elevates the expectations of the launch of moonbird DAO. **Who is the creator behind this first story?** Having a creator who understands the NFT space, the broader story, and cinematic culture is important when developing content to serve as a landing page for Nouns. We believe that 3D Print Guy is uniquely equipped in style, storytelling and understanding to provide a memorable rendition of the values and beliefs behind nouns. ![](https://i.imgur.com/rmzvlQT.jpg) With over 2 decades of experience in the business, including working on films like Up, he has been tugging on your heart strings over many years. His youtube page has content eclipsing 45 million views and his characters and plots have shown the ability to capture the world’s attention. He has also demonstrated an ability to release relevant content based on trending topics as seen with his most recent animation about [ChatGPT](https://twitter.com/3D_PrintGuy/status/1600116597711990784) (5k+ likes, 77k+ video views on twitter). In 2023, we hope to have the opportunity to help proliferate the nouns as well. We would be creating a special channel on the Atrium discord server where Moonbirds & Mythics are welcome to join and follow along the milestones of the process. We would love to have members of the DAO join in conversation and witness as we build in public. Any pre-release work will stay confidentially accessible to DAO members and we will coordinate to make sure the non-canon universe stays complementary to the Canon being developed by Proof. #### How (finer details) * The workflow starts with defining the script and dialogs (if any) for the story. This involves defining shot by shot verbatim descriptions of what is happening on screen. A good story is a great script in the first step. * After the script is done, we start to look for Voice actors who will help narrate / engage in dialog based on the script. If the script doesn’t have any dialogs and is mostly visually expressive we skip this step. * Now the fun part begins where you start to model the characters, the environment, the objects in the scene. Rigging a model is technically intensive process and better rigged models are more equipped for better emotions during a scene (more fluid and organic movements) ![](https://europe1.discourse-cdn.com/standard21/uploads/nouns/optimized/2X/e/e4408f0a1790f89fa248ea6aa9d233881580b665_2_522x518.jpeg) * Once you have the 3d assets ready - you start the process of Look-Dev. Look development in CG means you start to give definition to the model through textures, lighting, colours etc. They start to come to life. * Animatic essentially lets you block out part by part of the story sequence with actual scene setup (the animation is not smooth and done yet but essentially simulates the storyboard). * Using the animatic, Sound design can start to happen. * We will review the animatic and invite feedback to the animatic via our communication channel. * Once the animatic is locked down, the final animation work begins. This is the most intensive and time consuming process and takes the bulk of the later half of the creation cycle. * After final animation is done - it is time for last visual effects, lighting passes, refinements before you start to map out the finished sound design artefacts as well as the dialogs. * And then the final Reveal of the output (examples shared above). Final Output to premiere on all relevant social channels. We will be utilising the Story’s reach in terms of reshares / social engagement as metrics for success. ## What are the most significant risks or challenges for this proposal, and what are you doing to mitigate them? Risks: - Creator availability to maintain predictable cadence - Accurrate cost assessment Atrium responses: - Atrium is a rapidly growing collective of artists who excel in cinematic content creation. Our expanding group of artists allows for an ever present backup plan in the event of unforeseen circumstances. - As the DAO funds the cinematic effort upfront, it enables Atrium to secure the creator's time to produce the best storie possible in a collaborative way. - To buffer for timeline delays, Atrium defines a window of 6-8 weeks in between releases and will coordinate that with the DAO. - Atrium creator will retain a veto when we land on a creative deadlock with involved parties not being able to make progress. - Creative blocks on Story - Definition of characters / themes - Locking in voice cast / sound design - ... are some examples where Atrium creators can help break deadlocks. ## What will the money actually be spent on? For creation of 1 AAA cinematic episodic content over 6-8 weeks, Atrium is requesting 25k$ from the DAO. Atrium will ensure availability by securing a creative's time using the funds and looks forward to building in public with the community throughout the process. See a detailed cost breakdown below. #### Detailed breakdown (additional info): Runtime: - Per episode 1:10-1:20 min of runtime Assumptions: - Min 1 main character / Max 3 main characters showcased - Max 2 environments showcased Note 1: - These are very rough estimates and have a baked-in buffer for considering some overflow Note 2: - Aiming for 6-8 weeks of delivery schedules in between episodes | Type | Cost | | -------- | -------- | | Coordination & Misc Production logistics | 5,000.00 $ | | VO - Scouting, Casting & final deliverable | 1,000.00 $ | | Concept development & Storyboarding | 3,600.00 $ | | Story & Scripting | 2,500.00 $ | | Character definition - Modelling, Rigging | 4,000.00 $ | | Developing Animatic / Previs if any | 2,500.00 $ | | Animation Detailing | 4,000.00 $ | | FX | 2,000.00 $ | | Sound design (Production and acquiring rights as applicable) | 1,200.00 $ | | Total | 25,000.00 $ | ## Do you expect any other money to come in related to this project, e.g. revenues? #### Episodic Mints (Optional): If the DAO decides to [mint episodic collectible content (learn more)](https://twitter.com/pbrianandj/status/1610695135414845440) to create a self-sustaining flywheel curated together with Atrium, primary mint revenues are shared as following | Type | Primary mint Rev share | | -------- | -------- | | DAO | 60% | | Atrium | 40% | All secondary royalties (if defined) goes back to the DAO. ## Appendix Self-sustaining creator flywheels https://twitter.com/pbrianandj/status/1610695135414845440 Nouns Proposal (This is nouns) Funded by DAO https://houseofnouns.wtf/proposals/113 Nouns Video (Output of Prop 113) released as collectible mint by the DAO with rev share https://houseofnouns.wtf/proposals/195 Develop Film and TV like its 2023 https://pricepoint.substack.com/p/price-point-018-how-to-develop-film # FAQ #### I love the idea of creating content with / for the community. How does marketing factor into this? Our animations have proven time and again the ability to garner hundreds of thousands of views. That being said, we are NOT a marketing agency, nor have plans to be one. Pixar doesn't rely on their animators to market their movie, but they would work with whatever group or agency is looking to maximize the impact of the video. We also see this as an aditional benefit of content creation where it allows the community to setup marketing and distro channels that will be able to be maintained in the future. #### I saw an option for the DAO to vote to mint the animation similarly to Nouns. Have you thought through what benefits might exist in ownership of the animation? We don't want to get ahead of ourselves here, but we do see ways for the moonbird community to develop a creator economy of its own through assets that could be unlocked by owning the animations. We have also seen projects like Aku Dreams provide utility to owning a series or set of animations. If the community decides to mint the animation we can pursue these ideas further and identify how / what features would benefit the DAO and community most. #### How would we choose to feature moonbirds / mythics based on their CC0 Nature? Part of the benefit of creating content is the underlying ecosystem of creation it inspires. We propose using some of the Moonbirds gifted to the DAO upon its creation to begin creating the idenity of the DAO itself and the Characters within it. In the future if more animations were pursued a casting call that allows holders to submit the stories, settings, and characters could absolutely be an option. #### Can we expect to see previews of the content as its being made? We would love for the community to join us in the discord and see the process of creation as it happens. If you have never seen an animation come together from beginning to end it really is something special. We plan to share previews and give the community something to look forward to as we develop content.
