# Preliminary Research & Fact-Finding
### Continuum
- Feedback for Charity
- Keep polling people: Would you support a recall?
- π£ talk to locals "threads"
- 1st draft written statement
- Host a breakfast and submit to reviewers.
### Next Steps
- Compose 1st draft for the recall petition π
- Produce a 1-minute video that shines a light on Mrs. Wood. Produce a storyboard first.
- Plan a music festival event where we unveil the recall video, have musicians, and speakers
- Form a recall committee (2-5 people max)
- Establish a bulletproof 200-word statement supporting Mrs Christie Woods recall
- Submit petition to city clerk
### Threads to Pull
### Questions for Mr. Banducci
- How is NIC funded? It seems Mrs. Wood has controlled the paid administrative/faculty at NIC. Any action from Mr. Banducci will result in further public spectacles manifested as school walkouts, and other useless shenanigans. Therefore, we must go higher up... *the avenue whereby NIC is funded.*
- The Board of Trustees agenda needs to be set by the Board.
- Look back into history... was it always this way at NIC?
- Freedom is always bought at personal participation. What can Mr. Banducci do to reclaim the mandate from the stakeholders? Is it Kootenai County residents? Is it the funding? Is it the rest of the board?

### Music festival
- Jesse Quandt
- Get the FarmJam 2021 lineup, and identify other Spokane-based musicians
### Kinds of People We Need
- Several people for the recall committee
- Dozens of people for The Street Team (they collect signatures)
- Designated spokesperson
- People with community ties (e.g., ask a coffee shop to host a signing event)
- Photographer/videographers + media producers (me?)
### Methodologies/strategies
- Establish regular times/locations so people will always know where to sign. Every person will have a vinyl banner, table, chairs, pens, ... and signature sheets! Have pairs worked together to double-proof the signatures/residence.
- In-person special events
- Host a music festival with tables to sign petition.
- ...more! This is vital.
- Produce a schnazzy video to inspire the public
- Regularly produce news images/videos that promote the effort and keep the public dialed in.
- Start a Facebook Group for people to gather and socialize about the recall
- Start a Facebook Poll to stir the pot: "Do you want to recall? Yep. Nope."
- Send us personal experiences with Christie Wood? We'll keep you anonymous if youβd like.
- Rent a P.O. BOX
- Setup a website (see recallgavin2020 on Instagram) and connect to ConvertKit
- Video instructions for people to print and sign at home.
- Divide Coeur d'Alene into neighborhoods
- Designate neighborhood leaders (the "street team") that will coordinate and do the tough work of collecting signatures (these people are our most valued individuals on the team)
- Start processes for finding a new councilmen (we need 1 mayor and 3 councilmen this year alone)
- Selling merchandise that resonates with people. No half-hearted grifting schemes.
### Merch Ideas
- Sell embroidered "Make Cd'A Great Again" hats (doesn't need to mention recall necessarily)
- Buy a bunch of these car mini-flags. Give it away to the first 100 signers, and sell the remaining inventory @$10 each to raise funds.

### Annual Climate in Coeur d'Alene
- Aim to kick-off signature collection on April 1st when it's warmer. All of the preparation work will be done February & March.

### Kinds of Expenses We'll Have
- vinyl banners with the campaign slogan/logo/etc
- chair, tables, food/drinks if volunteers are gonna sit in public for long stretches of time
- free food/snacks for people standing in line? Like canned drinks/etc
- pens (lots of em)
- music festival-related costs: fees for musicians/bands to play, honorarium speaker fees, caterers, etc.
- spokesperson
- printing petitions
- notary
- flyers
- ...lots more probably...
### FAQ
- Number of signatures needed? 13,445.
- Do I qualify to sign this recall? (Plug the info here when you get it!)
- How is the position of city council filled by law? She would immediately leave the seat after the votes are counted, and the city council will fill the seat *via appointment* which that individual will occupy until the next city election where it'll go on the ballot (2019-2021-2023-2025-2027-etc-etc). Source: Idaho Code 34-1712 Β§5; Idaho Code 50-704;
### Record All Negative Sentiments Towards A New Recall
- Roger Garlock: "We should focus on the 3 opening council seats because the city council will appoint her empty seat"
- Justin Cottrell: "I have zero problems with a recall, but it needs done properly. We tried and failed a recall of the past CDA mayor and 3 city council in 2012. Numerous people worked hard to get it done, and we narrowly missed the required number of signatures needed. Mary Souza was one of those that spearheaded the effort, another was Frank Orwell who has since passed away. The major force against our effort was a counter effort headed by Sarah Meyers and Jennifer Drake. Both have deep family money and connections, and yeah Jennifer is the gal behind the Commie monument and owner of Crown and Thistle. They had DFO from the Spokesman Review's Huckleberry blog in their corner fighting us at every turn with disinformation. Plus their families were tight with the Press. They did their best to make us look like crazy uninformed idiots. My advice is to get highly organized. Get a professional, clear website, videos, and print information. Have a board, volunteers, and meetings. The last recall we were fairly organized, but not enough. This can be successful if properly managed. Also, if someone does go thru with a recall effort, please find a good PR person. Someone with thick skin, who is likeable and quick on their feet. This is one of the most valuable positions, it's the face to the effort."

### Takeaways re: starting recalls
- Talk to PEOPLE. Find those in the center of the crosshairs of the offending politician. This is your weapon X.
- Get money. Lots of it. Open up donations... even consider creative funding models (like Kickstarter) to get things going. Caveat: you may need to file for an Idaho Political Action Committee (PAC) to begin collecting donations.
