###### tags: `Important` `Spriting` `Direction` # The Big Respritening :tm: One of our main goals with rebasing will to finally put 100% effort towards providing a new and unique flavor of aesthetic to support our lore and setting. While we touched upon it basically on our old base, it's going to be full steam ahead for our rebase. The plan will be to eliminate much of the old palettes that we're normally accustomed to, and adopting a more bright, saturated and friendly feel to support our setting. If you're unsure on what this could be indepth, please check our [references](https://hackmd.io/y4eDJcy7Qc2AHLyA4GXFRQ?both#Sprite-References) below. This is going to take a lot of time and effort, don't expect these all to be done immediately! Most important ones should be done first, but don't feel bad about any contribution at all. Any help is better than none :blue_heart: :::success :bulb: **Table of Contents** [toc] ::: ## References and Direction To support our flavor, the idea is to drop Eris blues and dull grays for saturated, warm colors overall. While not everything has to be to such a degree, even the slightest tint would help! Think that metals and such have a slight tint or iridesence to them; try to analyze sprites artistically, not artificially! As such, it's hard to simply give people an idea without direction, and myself included. There will be a collection of palettes and references below for those who are interested in learning about our direction; both in-game sprites, and external images. Our main aesthetic and direction moving forwards will be more [solarpunk](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solarpunk) and [utopian](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utopia) overall, meaning that bright, ecological vibes pushed forth with open-minded ideals should be our concern. This means that any corporatization, bigotry, and general nusiances we deal with in our day-to-day lives should be kept to a minimum. Hyperstation is about escapism after all, so the setting should support that. Metals used in day to day life in the Andromedian galaxy are intensely alloyed and use fantasy sci-fi vibes that we're keen to show. This means that traditional concepts applying to things such as iron and the like, can safely be distorted and played with to an artistic degree. The same can also be assumed for basic household objects; flavoring things with more technology in general helps. And as the setting is still part fantasy, leering into the magic territory is also encouraged too. Being open to broad concepts to support the setting will help! Sprite references will be updated as we get more concepts to further explain our direction, in-depth. ### Sprite References ![](https://i.imgur.com/QBxQCAV.png) ``A set of tiles and wall concepts done by Paige on the Discord, with help of myself and ToonClyde. The bottom set are the planned usage of walls and floors.`` ![](https://i.imgur.com/eHjWoMy.png) ``All of our basic tile variations done by Paige as well. Note the creamy colors as opposed to a simple black, grays, and white.`` ![](https://i.imgur.com/I5xN8b8.png) ![](https://i.imgur.com/PFCiT2C.png) ``Two palettes using what colors are commonly being used in new sprites, give or take for the awkward oranges on the bottom left by yours truly.`` ![](https://i.imgur.com/hXg3y0q.png) ![](https://i.imgur.com/gdXSC8F.png) ``A set of pods done by Arctaisia; some saturation could be applied, but the main palette of low-tech Kinaris shuttles being black/gray/gold stands true here. Also, trans rights.`` ![](https://i.imgur.com/EKPChRa.png) ``A set of botany ideas done by Arctaisia as well, done in a very vibrant palette with intent around solarpunk and algae culture. An amazing reference for colors and general mix with technology.`` ![](https://i.imgur.com/N1QPJra.png) ``Arrivals shuttle on old Codebase. Using old floors and other things; but generally bringing in a Kinaris palette to anything uplifts a lot.`` ![](https://i.imgur.com/4WDYB2f.png) ``Emergency shuttle on old codebase, old sprites. Note the extra addition of lattice crystal tanks on the side.`` ![](https://i.imgur.com/MgUlCO6.png) ``An image of the old codebase's Lambent Office. While it still has old walls and floors, the stark contrast to the Kinaris tables and rugs standing out is certainly to be noted. It's one of my favorite references for Solarpunk in general, due to it's bright and optimistic lighting. I highly recommend watching the linked animation... Even if it's a fucking yogurt ad.`` ## The Big Spriting List This will be a not-so-comprehensive vague-guide on what needs to be done in order of some priority. This won't be updated live as much as I'd like, but it'll be a good thing for people to come back to in case they want to assist in spriting. Besides, it's hard to keep track of everything and I am one hyena. Need help finding a specific item on this list? Just let me know and I'll help! It's the least I can do for any assistance with helping me get through this list! :blue_heart: ### High Priority - [x] Basic Walls - [ ] Wall variants per-department, as well as general interesting wall shapes - [x] Floors - [ ] Airlocks, internal and external - [ ] Windows and grilles - [x] Station Intercoms - [x] Air Alarms - [x] Requests Consoles - [ ] APCs - [ ] Fire Alarms - [x] Light Switches - [ ] Fax machines - CONVERT TO SOMETHING MORE SCI-FI.
