That's not quite the end either, Stat numbers have an equivilent modifier. Whenever you see something refered to as a **Stat modifier**, that's what it is. Your **Stat modifier** is equal to your Stat minus 5, all divided by 2 and rounded. $statMod = \frac{Stat-5}{2}$ in equation consideration. A Stat cannot be higher than 10 in character creation, excluding special circumstances. During character creation, you spend a total of 20 points with a limit to your stats between 1-10. I.e, A stat cannot be lower than 1 or higher than 10. Backgrounds typically also have a point minimum to qualify, such that you need a stat to be above a number to be able to take the background. The 6 Stats of **[Fortuna]** are easy to recognize from other systems. 3 Physical Stats, 2 Mental Stats, and whatever [Luck] is. The Stats are: * **[Strength]** is the measure of your physical fitness -- your ability to lift something or throttle someone relies on [Strength]. * **[Intelligence]** is your smarts. Fixing an oxygen leak, repairing armor, using Linux, nerd shit. Certain technologies might be too complex for people lacking the brains to use them. * **[Charisma]** is how charming you are. This could be firm haggling, a sort of lovable scamp nature, manipuating people, that sort of thing. Being charismatic can also help notice when someone else might be trying to sweet talk you. * **[Endurance]** is your athleticism. Not neccessarily the same as [Strength], but similar. This is a measure of your ability to shrug off a blow, do strenuous activity for a long time, and so on. Pushing your body to the limit is a test of [Endurance], not [Strength]. This Stat is also necessary to keep a clear head under pressure. * **[Agility]** is a measure of reflex, speed, aim, and so on. Someone with a massive [Strength] migh be able to stick a long fall, but you can do it with grace. [Agility] also pertains to being able to hide. * **[Luck]** can always show in the little ways... --- ## Class Classes don't neccesarily exist, per say. Instead, they're a chosen name from a combination of your Origin and Backgrounds. At the end of the day the name for your class is cosmetic, but it should atleast reflect your role in the crew. Sometimes, this can be referred to as the Archetype system. Although the name can change, the origin and backgrounds are permanently sewn into your characters at a deep level. In character creation, you choose 1 origin and 2 backgrounds. Available origins and backgrounds are detailed in their respective pages. ## Traits In character creation, you get a total of 3 green traits, 3 blue traits, and 2 red traits (with exceptions). In character creation, you pick 1 common trait from your race, 3 from your backgrounds (abiding to the rules laid out in the Background chapter), and the last 4 are yours to choose assuming you meet the restrictions. For a full list of implemented traits, view the respective page. ## Race Races mechanically provide a pick of a trait on their common list, but also dictate your appearence and everything that comes with it. --- ## Step-by-Step Character Creation 1. Choose a race From your race, you must pick 1 trait from their list of common traits. 2. Choose an origin Your origin decides your starting equipment, refer to the rules of your origin. 3. Choose 2 backgrounds From these 2 backgrounds you pick 1 trait from each, and then 1 trait from either. Backgrounds usually also have a stat minimum, make sure you meet it. 4. Finalize your stats These are the points left unspent from step 3. 5. Pick the last 4 traits The last 4 traits can be any you meet the prerequisite for. If a trait belongs to a background you lack then you cannot take it. That's it, all done! All that's left is the pregame matter of picking a ship and distributing inventory. Oh and thinking of a character, that too.
