Our short [HowTo EduMeet](https://www.dropbox.com/s/xg7hos243nz5m6c/HowToEduMeet.pdf?dl=0) shows how to
- change the view to gallery/democratic
- prevent the chat from obsuring the view.

## Welcome
Welcome to the *Performing Archival Data Differently* workshop. Together we will spend a couple of hours exploring
- How might one perform data bodies and archives differently? And how does that affect what kinds of knowledge objects and subjects are performed in turn?
- How do digital tools and machine reading/writing change the relationship between data and text?
- What could Data Books look like? Perhaps blurring the boundaries between archive and text, analysis and data, qual and quant materials?
Drawing on the extensive archive of clothing patents assembled by the Politics of patents project, we will work with a small sub-set of mask patents to explore these questions hands- and mask-on.

### Hosts
Performing Archival Data Differently is an event in the **ReUsing Sources** mini workshop series organised by the Experimental Publishing Group at the *Community-led Open Publication Infrastructures for Monographs* [COPIM](https://copim.pubpub.org "COPIM's documentation") project.
Rebekka Kiesewetter and Julien McHardy run this event with support from our colleagues at COPIM's Experimental Publishing group Janneke Adema, Tobias Steiner and Gary Hall. We are hosting the workshop together with our collaborators Kat Jungnickel and Ellen Fowles from the Politics of Patents project [POP](https://www.politicsofpatents.org "Pops up POPs project page").
---
### Guests
We are so glad you're joining us for this intimate gathering. We invited you because, in one way or another, you are performing data differently in your practices, often using experimental forms of publication bringing. We are excited to share, learn and experiment with you, and to make new connections during the workshop and beyond.
---
### Overview
The event will have two parts.
- In part one, we will briefly introduce the project and do a couple of brief exercises to establish our togetherness.
- In part two, following a short break, we will experiment with performing data differently, using a set of Mask Patents from the POP archive as material.
---
### Prep
We are gathering to experiment, so there's not much prep. That said, there are a couple of practical and fun things to consider before the event.
PRACTICAL
- Open our [EduMeet Room](https://edumeet.geant.org/performingdatadifferently) before the event to test your setup. The room is open from now, so you visit anytime before the event.
- Check our [HowTo EduMeet](https://www.dropbox.com/s/xg7hos243nz5m6c/HowToEduMeet.pdf?dl=0) to set the view and chat function.

## Ethics of Engagement
1. FOCUS - limit distractions and avoid multitasking, concentrate and commit to the task at hand.
2. SIMPLICITY - be thoughtful when discussing complex terms, and don’t assume that everyone will understand. Speak up and ask for further clarity.
3. ASK - there are no stupid or unimportant questions. Feel free to speak out, or you can ask through the chat function (please be aware this is not private).
4. RESPECT - we want everyone to have their voice heard and valued. There will be a tolerance of differences, and everyone should contribute to a safe and non-judgemental environment, agree to disagree.
5. SHARING - anyone who comes to a meeting is free to use information from the discussion but cannot reveal who made the comment. It is designed to increase openness of discussion, Chatham House Rules.
