> **_NOTES on terminology :_**
_Novice Users_: Users with little or no prior HPC experience (batch or interactive systems)
_New Users_: User with little or no prior UCloud experience
_Soft outreach_: Experimential, thematic
_Hard outreach_: Individual research project supervision
:::
## Scope ##
Outreach activitites are targeted at the universities in the consortium primarily, and all Danish universities that are members of DeiC secondarily. Outreach products, e.g. website, presentations, videoes etc. will be made available nationally.
## Main Branding Goals ##
[comment]: # (Explain levels of description to make the lists more compact)
### Main Targets
#### 1. Increase number of novice users (Humanities, Social Sciences, Health)
Promoting Type 1 HPC for novice users within as many domains of research as possible. This helps to expand the userbase, develop potential low cost-high gain projects ("low-hanging fruit first" principle), and increase relevance of Type 1 HPC.
##### Subgoals
0. Provide visible and accessible knowledge about & learning opportunities with UCloud
1. Develop a relationship to research programmes and departments at Humanities and Social Sciences (and Health).
2. Offer webinars and workshops
* Compile list of workshops and webinars available (including relevant third-party workshops, e.g., National Competence Centre/EuroCC) for:
* [Basic] Platform
* [Intermediary] Software
* [Advanced] Data Engineering/Science
* Compile list of workshops and webinars to be developed for:
* Platform
* Software
* Data Engineering/Science
3. Develop basic and advanced user support:
* Provide single point of access with 24h response
* Clear local and national sandbox provision with management and DeiC.
#### 2. Increase number of new users (Science, Tech, Health)
Promoting Type 1 HPC for new users to research domains that could benefit from easy access to cloud computing for research with additional support and competitive pricing. This helps to expand the userbase, demonstrate the legitimacy of interactive computing for all faculties, and build active brand awareness.
##### Subgoals
0. Provide visible and accessible knowledge about UCloud
1. UCloud as just-in-time, low-cost, and scalable cloud computing that requires a minimum of system-level knowledge and time to setup using:
* Platform
* Software
* Data Engineering/Science
2. UCloud as a platform for collaboration and sharing
* Clear data processing agreements in the consortium and nationally.
3. Low price/competitive cloud computing
* Introduction to Local and national eResource committees.
* Resource allocation cycle
* Application support
#### 3. Promote educational uses
Educational applications (i.e., applications of UCloud that focuses on teaching and competency development) are expected to be one of the primary uses of UCloud [the financial model for this is still undetermined]. By promoting use cases, we will motivate users to use UCloud educational activities in UCloud in order further develop this aspect.
##### Subgoals
1. How to use Ucloud
* platform, e.g. best practises on how to set up ...
* software,
* data engineering and analysis on the platform
2. Promote existing coding/software initiatives, e.g. CodeRefinery, Carpentries.
#### 4. Promote advanced support
In contrast to other types of HPC, the Type 1 system should be associated with an extensive list of advanced user support, and outreach activities should focus on building awareness of and selling these services.
Types/levels of services:
* platform
* software
* data engineering and analysis
* conceptualization, management, tools development, facilitation (including legal clarification)
##### Subgoals
1. List standard and advanced services on all levels of services > consortium website
2. Provide single point of access > consortium website
3. Promote data stores and how to access and utilize them > consortium website
4. Facilitate a userdriven community > e.g. Slack
## Niche Content To Build Outreach List ##
[comment]: # (Specify user groups in terms of niche content that we can provide)
__New Users__ need _knowledge_ of UCloud as a) just-in-time scalable cloud computing; b) a collaborative and data sharing platform; and c) low-cost cloud computing for research and education.
__Novice Users__ need broadly speaking two types of outreach _knowledge_ of and _experience_ with UCloud. While the advantages of cloud computing ultimately are identical for new and novice users, the latter need _cloud onboarding_ both in terms of data and applications.
__Students and educational use cases__ of UCloud are content-wise similar to new and novice users, but two additional issues are necessary to resolve: _Scalability_ with UCloud and _reliable resource allocation_.
First, UCloud is intended for research and because research teams rarely have 50+ members that need access to one project at the same time, we may experience scalability issues with educational uses. Second, DeiC's HPC systems are intended for research use, which is reflected in the application procedures for, at least, national resources. How compute and storage is funded for educational uses are therefore currently undecided. Thus, wrt. development of niche content for educational uses (beyond pilot studies), it is necessary to resolve these issues with relevant stakeholders (educational IT and management).
__Advanced user support__ promotion requires exemplars from successful projects in UCloud (or similar projects, e.g., the Cultural Heritage Cluster). Furthermore, it requires documentation of advanced user support on par with UCloud other documentation.
