# Govrn Winter Offsite 2023 ###### tags: `Offsites` ## Welcome to Lake Tahoe! Everyone, welcome to the Winter 2023 Govrn Offsite! I'm excited to be getting all of us together, I know it's going to be a good time. Below you'll find information on the lodging, agenda for the offsite, skiing/early weekend details, and much more. I'm very excited that we all get to experience Lake Tahoe together. **Table of Contents** [TOC] ## Dates The full dates of the offsite will be Jan 7 - 12 (note: **we have the Airbnb booked through the 13**) - The first weekend, Jan 6-8, will be an optional fun weekend for people to ski - The formal offsite programing will start first thing Monday Morning through Thursday at Noon (Jan 9-12) - We will have the Airbnb booked through Friday to make it easier to leave Friday. ## Rides - If you're flying in or out of SF, please coordinate rides with Christine + Tim - If you're flyinh in or out of Reno, please coordinate rides with Aaron - I will have a car rented, if you're come or leave around the same time of me, I'll drive you to and from the airport. If it's a different time, you can take an uber/lyft ## Lodging We've rented a house in the lovely Tahoe City. Tahoe City is one of the "bigger" areas on the North Shore and right on the Lake. Details about the house can be found [here](https://www.vrbo.com/107302?adultsCount=7&noDates=true&unitId=107302). The house address is: 1425 W Lake Blvd., Tahoe City, CA 96145 ![](https://hackmd.io/_uploads/rykyzUM5j.png) For sleeping, a couple people will have to share rooms but the house does have enough beds for everyone. The house is walking distance from the Lake and a quick 5 minute drive to Tahoe City (as well as walking to dope cafe, Sunnyside) ## Schedule/Agenda This is a tentative schedule and agenda for the Offsite and we can change it if we want. One piece of feedback I've incorporated from Miami was to give more free/unstructured time. - To this degree, for the Mon-Wed, the day will be organized into two parts, 4 hour working session, afternoon for free time/explore, then team dinner. - For any of the free time sections, I have a list of potential things and activities we can do during free time. **Friday:** - Arrive and Check In **Saturday + Sunday:** - Head to Pallisades Ski Resort for a day of skiing and hanging out. - After skiing and hanging at the resort, we will decide what to do for dinner. - You can find more details of ski days in the below sections **Sunday Night:** - Team dinner and hang out before Monday. Most likely in Tahoe City. - Get to bed for a good night rest. **Monday (Full Team + Goals):** - 9:00 - Optional Breakfast - 10:00 - Working Session 1a: Setting Goals for the Year. - What are key goals and directions we want to head in. Where do we think there are opportunities in the space to expand/focus on? What strengths do we want to double down on? - This should be a combination of seeing where we think the DAO space will go and what we're good at - 11:30 - Break - 12:00 - Working Session 1b: First Brainstorm for Metrics - Based on our earlier goals, lets start brainstorming on what would be good metrics for us to judge progress towards our goals. We will review what "good goal setting practices" to start. We also need to pick metrics that are easily trackable - 1:30 - Free time. People can hang around the house, go to tahoe city, the lake, anything. - 5:00 PM - Dinner Activtiy - We will do a team cooked dinner again. At 5 we'll head to the grocery store, come back, cook, and eat dinner. - After dinner - Govrn Health Presentation + Fundraising Pitch: - I want to give another Health Update of Govrn as well as give you all the current Govrn pitch. - My goal is to be able to do it with the deck, although it will be deck that is a wip. - Post Update - Relax and Hang **Tuesday (Team Breakouts)** - 9:00 - Optional Breakfast - 10:00 - Working Session 2: Team Breakouts - Teams will have the day to do their own breakouts. - Potential things to work on: - Assessing the first set of proposed metrics. What do they mean for the team? Do you think they're good? Would you modify? - Work on solving the complex issues that are hard to do virtually - Work on Process Improvements - 11:30 - Break - 12:00 - Working Session 1b: First Brainstorm for Metrics - Based on our earlier goals, lets start brainstorming on what would be good metrics for us to judge progress towards our goals. We will review what "good goal setting practices" to start. We also need to pick metrics that are easily trackable - 1:30 - Free time. For Dinner, we will be heading to Truckee. I'm thinking that we can head to Truckee early/during free time so people can explore Truckee before dinner. - 6:00 PM - Dinner - Truckee - After dinner - No specific plan, we can hang in truckee or head back. Whatever the team is feeling. Potentailly can have a car head to Incline if poeple want a late night bar activity. **Wednesday (Full Team Decision on Goals and KPIs)** - 9:00 - Optional Breakfast - 10:00 - Working Session 3: Final Decision on Goals and KPIs - On our last full day, we're going to revisit the proposed goals and KPIs now that everyone has had time to think - The output of this meetings will be a set of directional goals and KPIs to track against them. This will include a North Star Metric KPI that will drive the full team. - 11:30 - Break - 12:00 - Working Session 3: Continue Same Working Sesssion - 1:00 - Free time. People can hang around the house, go to tahoe city, the lake, anything. - 6:30 PM - End of Offsite Team Dinner - Garwoods - Similar to Miami, we will finish the offsite with a "fun" team dinner. - After dinner - No specific plan, we can hang in truckee or head back. Whatever the team is feeling. Potentailly can have a car head to Incline if poeple want a late night bar activity. **Thursday (Wrap up and See you later!)** - 9:00 - Optional Breakfast of whatever we have leftover - 9:30 - Offsite Wrap Up - We will spend Thursday Morning wrapping up the offsite, sharing learnings, and gratitudes - 11:30 AM - Official End of Programing! - Even before this, I know some people will have to leave. Leave whenever you need to to get to your flight, but we will finish "programing" at 11:30 - Once done, you're free to do whatever you want for the rest of the week! Go snowshoeing, get a half day in of Skiing, party, relax whatever! **Friday - Checkout and Leave!** Note: We will have the house rented Thursday night as well. For whoever is there, we can figure out something to do Thursday evening, or you are more then welcome to do your own thing. ## Skiing Information If you're coming in for the early weekend, you have an opportunity to Ski Tahoe if you want! - Most likely, we will be skiing at the [Palisades Ski Resort](https://www.palisadestahoe.com/) (a personal favorite of mine). Regardless if you're a beginner or expert, this will be a fun time. I'm happy to help out with this if it's your first time. If you do want to Ski, please let me know ASAP. I will be coordinating Ski Gear Rentals and Lift Tickets for those that need. - Additionally, if you're interested in a lesson, that can also be arranged. **If you don't want to Ski but are still coming early, don't worry!** We still have activities for you. There are plently of places in the village, and I promise sipping hot cocoa (or a hot toddy) by the fire place is equally as fun. ## Things to bring Tahoe is a mountain town, where it snows. **It will be cold.** Please make sure to pack appropriately. There is no dress code, so be comfortable. Additionally, while the Lake it too cold to swim in (unless you're feel wild and want to do a polar plunge 🤪 ), the cabin does a have a hot tub for usage! ## Note on Tahoe + Weather We seem to have a way with weather for our offsites. Note that it will most likely be snowing during our offsite. I'll make sure we're prepared and will be keeping an eye on the weather, but make sure to bring a jacket and good pair of shoes. That said, this is only a couple day trip and if you don't have a specific piece of clothing no worries. Give me a holler and I might be able to bring an extra jacket for you as well. ## Action Items - [x] If you're interested in the optional fun weekend, please let Aaron know by 12/9. - [x] Book flights and let us know where you're flying so we can plan rides. - [ ] Message in the channel your flight times. ## Lets get it!! I'm super excited to be able to bring everyone together. It'll be great to have everyone working together and can't wait to see what we come up with. Reach out with any questions. Aaron ## Previous Notes ```## Logistical Details This winter season, we'll be having the off site in Lake Tahoe. The dates of the offsite are Jan 9-12 (with an optional fun weekend Jan 7-8). Everyone should look to book their own plane tickets that make the most sense for them. Govrn will cover flight costs. **Arrival:** Please aim to arrive in Lake Tahoe the evening of Sunday Jan 8. This way we can have all of Monday as a working day. To make up for the weekend travel, you can take Friday Jan 13 as an Off/Weekend Day. **Departure:** On Thursday, the last session we will have will end no later then 11:30 AM. Accordingly, this means the earliest you coould plan to leave for the airport is Noon. **Getting to Lake Tahoe** There are three main ways to get to Lake Tahoe. 1. Fly directly into Reno 3. Fly into SF and rent a car or catch a ride up to Tahoe (5 hour drive) 4. Fly into Sacramento and rent a car or catch a ride up to Tahoe (2 hour drive) - If this is your preferred option, contact Aaron first. The diversity of airports is to give flexibility to whatever makes the most sense for your departing airport. If you are unsure or need help figuring out flights reach out to Aaron. **Lodging:** We are currently evaluating different options (airbnb vs hotel), but our goal is that everyone has their own room. The two areas we are looking at is South Lake Tahoe and Truckee.
