# Nouns School Propdates
This Document is to provide a summary of all activities that are happening at Ndurumo primary school in regards to the [Nouns Funded Proposal](https://nouns.wtf/vote/477) to Transform Davin's former primary school into a Nouns School.

## January 14th - February 10th, 2024

### Legal Initiatives:
For the last month, we have diligently worked on obtaining permissions from the School Foundation body, a pivotal step in initiating the reconstruction process. Our efforts also extend to engaging with the School Management Committee, the Parent-Teacher Association (P.T.A), and local government leaders to secure their consent for commencing the reconstruction work.

### Community Engagement:
Recognizing the importance of community involvement, we have actively sought permissions and support from key stakeholders. This collaborative approach ensures that the entire community is aligned and invested in the transformative journey of Ndurumo Primary School.

### Land Survey Report
During this time period we also carried out a land survey to obtain the actual acreage and Topographic mapping of the School land.

### Alumni Activation:
In a significant development, we have spearheaded the activation of the Ndurumo Primary School Alumni from the year 1992 to the present. By establishing a platform for alumni, we aim to reconnect, unite, and garner support for the reconstruction efforts. This initiative underscores the collective commitment to rebuilding a foundation that has played a crucial role in shaping countless lives.

### Government Approval Documents
Welcome to the latest update on the transformation journey of Ndurumo Primary School, located in Kiyanga, Rwoburunga Sub-County, Mitooma District, Uganda. In this report, we will provide an overview of the significant milestones achieved in our efforts to implement the Nouns Funded Proposal, which aims to transform Davin's former primary school into the first Nouns School in Africa.

Through collaborative efforts and unwavering determination, we are proud to announce that we have obtained full approval from the Government of Uganda, facilitated by the Mitooma District Local Government.

This milestone marks a significant step forward in our journey towards establishing the Nouns School in Africa, and we are excited to share the progress made thus far. Join us as we highlight the key achievements and developments that have brought us closer to realizing our vision of building a mordern nouns school providing quality primary school education in western Uganda region

### Approved Architect Designs & Blue Prints
In addition to the site visits, we facilitated an architect presentation at a conference hotel in Kampala city. This event was attended by key stakeholders, including representatives from the Mitooma District Local Government and other relevant authorities, as well as invited contractors. The purpose of the presentation was to solicit feedback on the architect designs submitted and to ensure that the plans align with the vision and requirements of the project.

The collaborative efforts between the architecture team, local stakeholders, and contractors have been instrumental in achieving this milestone. With the approved architect designs and blueprints in hand, we are now poised to move forward with the next phase of the project

### Opportunities and Challenges

As we reflect on the journey thus far, it is evident that the project to transform Ndurumo Primary School into the first Nouns School in Africa has reached a significant milestone with the conclusion of the first stage: Community engagement, Architectural Designs, and Government Approval. This phase, crucial to laying the groundwork for the project, has been successfully completed within the allocated budget, marking a commendable achievement for our team.


However, it is important to acknowledge the challenges encountered along the way. One notable challenge we faced was the time constraint, as the initial timeline projected for this stage of the project was 1 month. Regrettably, due to unforeseen circumstances and complexities inherent in the process, it took approximately 2.7 months to fully complete the necessary tasks and obtain the required approvals. Despite this setback, we remained resilient and adaptable, overcoming obstacles with determination and perseverance.

Throughout this journey, we have gained invaluable insights and key learnings that will inform our approach moving forward. We have learned the importance of flexibility and patience in navigating the complexities of large-scale projects, as well as the critical role of effective communication and collaboration in fostering meaningful partnerships with stakeholders.
## April 5th - May 29th, 2024
Continuing to provide a summary of all activities that are happening at Ndurumo primary school, Kiyanga, Rwoburunga Sub-County, Mitooma District in regards to the [Nouns Funded Proposal](https://nouns.wtf/vote/477) to Transform Davin's former primary school into the first Nouns School in Africa, April 10th - May 10th was School Construction start, May 20th - may 29th, first Nouns School in Africa ground breaking event (Hyper Kids Africa X Ndurumo Primary School - NPS Kiyanga, Uganda)

### Start of Construction ( School Foundation Level + Concrete Basic Level Primary School Infrastructure )

Construction on the Nouns School site #1 started officially on 10th April, 2024. We kicked off with the Foundation for all the 7 new blocks which are Administration Block, Tech Block, Lower Primary Block, Upper Primary, Pump and Electrical house, Kitchen and Dining.


### Project Delivery Challenges

As we continue to celebrate the progress of the Nouns School project, we acknowledge the challenges faced in delivering the community water part of the initiative.

The drilling company we hired encountered significant difficulties, as their heavy drilling truck was unable to navigate the steep and rugged roads of the Rift Valley. Prioritizing safety above all, we have decided to delay the water project by an additional 30 days while we seek alternative solutions.


Despite this setback, our commitment to providing a reliable water source for the school and surrounding community remains unwavering. We are staying positive and proactive, confident that with perseverance and support, we will overcome this obstacle and achieve our goal.

### Ground Breaking Event w/ Hypers Kids Africa

The groundbreaking ceremony was a momentous occasion attended by community leaders, parents, and enthusiastic children, all united by the shared vision of a better tomorrow. As we embark on this exciting project, we look forward to the continued support and involvement of our community in making the Nouns School a beacon of excellence in education.

A Nounish Community Intergration and acceptance of this cryptographically funded construction program for a community based school which is intertwinned to a public water production well can help supercharge the nouns eco system when it comes to proliferation using public goods

We are excited to share the another progress update on the Nouns School project, an initiative powered by the nouns collective vision and support of public goods using onchain technologies. Four months ago, we embarked on a transformative journey to build a modern school in rural Uganda, Construction on the Nouns School site #1 started officially on 10th April, 2024. We kicked off with the Foundation for all the 7 new blocks which are Administration Block, Tech Block, Lower Primary Block, Upper Primary, Pump and Electrical house, Kitchen and Dining., empowering the local community through access to quality learning facilities.

In this update, we will highlight the significant milestones achieved so far, the challenges we've encountered, and the steps we're taking to ensure the successful completion of the school. ### What has been Finished? So Far? ###

### Challenges Faced while building the #1 nouns School in Kiyanga, Mitooma, Uganda

#### 1. The Water & Sanitation Challenge
One of the biggest promises for this Proposal has been about providing a crypto enabled "public good" such as water for 1000 families in Kiyanga, Rwoburunga Sub County, Mitooma District. This location is located in the first valley of the Western Arm of the Rift Valley, Uganda.

Water Giants Uganda PLC was Contracted to deliver the first Nouns water well in Kiyanga - Rwoburunga S?C, Mitooma, Uganda. Their fully compensated Hydrological survey results can be viewed below.

NB: Unfortunately the 1-st Water Drilling supplier was not able to delivery drilling truck to the site which prompted a legal action of searching for new Water Drilling supplier due to complications of payments and negligence of [WATER GIANTS AFRICA PLC](https://www.linkedin.com/company/water-giants-africa-ltd?originalSubdomain=ug). This Major setback lead to an increase cost of purchasing water / H2O for construction activities and this greately drove up our construction operating site costs. (Many processes in construction require water such as bricklaying, concrete slabs, cement mixing and so on.. etc)

##### Drilling of the #1st Nouns water well in Africa.

After the catastrophic failure of the first drilling attempt, we switched to support from [Ministry of Water and Environment, Uganda](https://www.mwe.go.ug/) coordinators who suggested a more trusted water drilling supplier Named [OPTIMUM EARTH (U) LTD](https://optimum-earth.com/) who was able to take the earlier collected Water Survey Data of a 100m water reservoir well and was only able to secure only 500 ltrs per hr instead of the agreed 5000 ltrs per hour hybrid motorised community water well

NB: The newly drilled well was not humanly potable for community consumption because the well drilled has an Iron (Fe) concentration of 7.3mg/l which is over 95 % above the acceptable drinking potable water fit for human consumption by Ministry of Water and Environment, we were advised to abandon well due to the negligence of the 3rd party drilling company losing over 30m of well due to the soft formation collapse that was experienced during the drilling operation which lasted only 2 days.

#### Way Forward for Nounish Water Project

Expert advice from Minstry of Water and Environment suggests that to make the Nouns Schoola safe place for community water consumption using our - Community Water Points - we are to build out a Water harvesting system off the 7 roofs of the structures built on the school site, collecting them into an above ground lower elevation 40,000 ltrs with a 5000 ltr per hour solar/hybrid pump to move it to the 20,000 ltr reservoir so as to be shared with the community.

This brings the total water capacity of the nouns school to 60,000 ltrs which we believe at high peak rainy season in Kiyanga - Rwoburunga region can help provide clean potable water to the 1000 family region.

#### Additional Water Solutions.

With such a public good such as "water reservoir" capacity, Ndurumo Primary School with Ugandan Government AID can seek treated public water with Ministry of Water and Mineral Development through the Uganda National Water & Sewerage Corporation to use the school site as a Public water reservoir and waste treatment water center. This is an example of how we can built the water sustainability program with multiple partners who want to join this nounish education journey.

### United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

[The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)](https://intelligence.weforum.org/topics/a1Gb0000000LHN7EAO) provide an architecture to address some of our gravest challenges faced in African countries especially focusing on Education. Changing the ways in which we work, produce, and consume education at a primary level is crucial. If governments truly want to improve millions of lives, they must increase cooperation with 3rd parties and focus on sustainable development eleveraging crypto and blockchain technologies - which means listening to the communities most affected by inequality, and crafting environmentally-friendly policies that prepare us all for future emergencies. It also means addressing long-standing problems such as poverty, lack of education, long term sustainability and in particular its impact on young people. Future generations deserve bold solutions such as cryptocurrency, and more creative thinking, to address these issues currently faced in the post COVID world.

## Scope to Finish the #1 Nouns School in Uganda, East Africa (August 15th, 2024)
##### "Out with the old, in with the new" is an expression that means to leave behind old things or ideas and start fresh with new ones. For example, people might make conscious decisions for change at the start of a year to let go of old habits, routines, and roadblocks.

7/9 Buildings are entering their 85% completion, with only 2 buildings left to finalize the Nouns School Complete refurbishment / reconstruction project. This project has seen a great impact happen on the rift-valley community.
