# VSF organizational meeting 2020-07-14
Attending:
Giulia, Anton, Valla, Eliska, Hari, Babak
## Notes
- Next LRC speakers after Titus
- We are searching for young PI speakers
- Make suggestions for August 19th
- Babak will invite Mohammad Hafezi
- Let's keep inviting some high-profile people to ensure we keep a good attendance
- We could invite someone from the new anyon papers (perhaps the postdoc). Could be a panel discussion
- ACTION POINT: add option of signing up to the mailing list on the website
- This is a potential strategy for targeting speakers (those with recent interesting results)
- SciRate may be an easy way of finding visible papers
- Nathalie de Leon colloquium planning
- On track
- Valla will ask Nathalie whether she wants to do the 15 min chat before the talk
- Action point: fill out the registration form on behalf of the speaker
- Titus colloquium planning
- We got a request that we shouldn't announce the talk too much in advance, since there is going to be a new result announced.
- One week in advance is enough
- Action point: propose to the speaker to link the video from the preprint comment.
- The link probably should point to the youtube video
- Website update (guides, link EPN article)
- Moderator guide finalized but not merged yet
- ACTION POINT: link EPN article
- Ideas for new events and updates on possible events we discussed (lab visits, best practices for online events, twisted bilayers tips and tricks)
- Workshop about online conferences
- Anton found someone (epidemiologist) who might be interested in collaborating on the best practices in online events (survey and event)
- Could be a different audience
- We could start planning around August
- We could combine the registration with the survey
- Involving seperate disciplines can make it more interesting
- Virtual lab tours
- We should start with a high-profile, interesting lab
- Balance between science and the overall story
- If aiming at students, the level should be more introductory
- Could combine different formats
- Could be fun to have 'a day in the life' video for a PhD student to show how research actually works in a specific lab
- AOB
- Next chair: Valla
