### What you will need:
* Smartphone, mobile device - Android, or iOS
* Install the following from the app store
* OsmAnd - mapping and navigation app
* Mapillary - street-level photo app
* [Sign-up](http://osm.org/user/new) for OpenStreetMap (free)

OsmAnd is open source software, and there are several versions available. For **Android** users, we strongly recommend the community version from F-Droid. Instructions are found [below](#Installing-~OsmAnd-from-F-Droid).
The community version has the same features found in the regular app store, without the download limits of the "free" version from the app store

## Installing ~OsmAnd from F-Droid

1. Go to https://f-droid.org/ and download the
2. Tap Download APK,
3. Tap the downloaded APK on your device,
4. Tap allow installation of apps from unknown sources,
5. Search for "OsmAnd" (it's not case sensitive)
6. Allow the installation to complete,
7. Once installed, you will find the OsmAnd launcher in your your App Drawer.

~OsmAnd, the community version from F-Droid, doesn't include Google Play, Analytics, and uses proper libraries instead of binaries for your privacy protection.

Install the app through FDroid to receive free updates, whenever they become availabe.
For the purpose of the workshop, you may opt to install from a regular app store (Play or iTunes.

## Off-line maps
OsmAnd supports off-line maps world-wide.

- Select the Standard map if you have enough storage space, or the roads-only map if you don't.
- The other files are optional, but nice to have. Wikipedia, for example, allows you to read local entries, if they're available.

The regular version, with limited downloads and no support for Wikipedia articles:

## Sign-up for OpenStreetMap
Sign-up with a valid email address and go to osm.org/user/new and follow the instructions.

4. and select Username and Password

3. Tap OpenStreetMap to create a Mapillary account or sign in with your existing login.
