# Jitsi
Jitsi is an open-source video conferencing platform that offers end-to-end encryption, and focuses on **security** and **privacy**.
Whoever initiated the meeting will provide the participants a URL to acess a meeting room.
---
## How to use
Open the URL provided by your contact, and follow the on-screen instructions.
* On a PC, there is nothing to install
* On a mobile, you may need to install an app
---
## On a PC
All you need is a mic, and a modern web browser to open the URL. Cameras are optional.

> Allow the app to access your mic and camera temporarily, for the meeting duration
----
### Jitsi Desktop Interface
Remember, you can press `?` on your keyboard for help any time.
----
#### Typical Jitsi

>The menu at the screen bottom lets you share your screen (1), raise your hand (2), or access the chat box (3). Toggle the mic button (4) (use the spacebar for PTT mode, when mic is off) or end (5) the call. You can toggle your camera (6), too. You may switch between speaker and tile-view mode (7), get information about the room (8), or access options in the menu (9)
----
#### Jitsi servers by 8x8

> The menu on the screen bottom lets you mute your mic (6), share your video (8), screen share (2), chat (4) with participants and more (12).
Press `?` on your keyboard for help.

## On a mobile
----
### Install the mobile app
Go to jitsi.org/downloads or select one of the following app stores:
* [Google Play](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.jitsi.meet) for Android
* Apple [iOS](https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/jitsi-meet/id1165103905)
* [FDroid](https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.jitsi.meet/) for Android
----
### Let us know it's you

> Click the menu (1), go to Settings (2) and update the display name(3) or email address. This is ++optional++ but helpful in a room of guests full of "Fellow Jitster".
----
### Join a meeting
You will be given a URL for a room to use, which you can directly paste in Jitsi Meet.

> (1) is where you generate a room name if you initiate a meeting, or paste (2) the meeting room URL (3) to join others. **Make sure to copy the whole URL string**. Once you enter the room, there's a menu (4) you can check for additional options (5), like inviting other people, switching to tile view, or raising your hand.
:::info
Some servers (e.g. 8x8) may recommend their own app but you can safely ignore that and simply use Jitsi Meet.
:::
----
If you opted to open the URL in a browser, just follow the instructions:

> Select "Cotinue to the app" to lauch Jitsi Meet
###
---
:::info
The room URL you may receive may not be the same server you have in your settings. That's alright, as long as all participants attend the same URL meeting room.
:::
:::warning
If you find yourself alone in a meeting room, and it's several minutes past the appointed time, you might not be using the right URL. :sweat_smile:
:::
---
### Good practices for teleconferences
* Mute the mic unless you're speaking
* Jitsi supports press-to-talk (PTT) on PCs
* It's polite to **Raise your hand** first, and wait for the moderator to recognize you.
* Use Tile-view to see everyones faces (or avatar)

## That's it, pancit!
