# Near Sputnik Rewards System Anlaysis **Team: Uncommon common** ### Measuring system healthiness generally We're interested in exploring the make up of the Sputnik DAO to better understand the composition of the DAOs created within this ecosystem. What missions do they have? How are they funded? How active are they? How centralized are they to the NEAR Foundation priorities? ### Hypothesis In a healthy system, we should see many funded, active and diverse DAOs. - Funded = resources to allocate for work (0 < Treasury) - Active = Active and/or successful proposals - Diverse = Mission uncoupled from platform DAO is built on In a health system, we should see an increase in number of DAOs giving and receiving funds. ### Analysis ## Increasing number of DAOs being funded ![](https://i.imgur.com/kxKMuDB.png) Show the total number of dao receivers throughout month. The overall trend is increasing and peaks at September, when sputnik v2 (astro DAO) launched. ## Increasing amount of funds being transfered to DAOs ![](https://i.imgur.com/0ANIAZZ.png) We see a similiar trend where the overall funding transfered between DAOs are increasing and peaks around september. Note the unit is NEAR. ## Increasingly complicated funding flow network structures We checked out the detailed money transfer between DAOs. For example, this is the funding flow in April: ![](https://i.imgur.com/9UpWVlu.png) We see community squad giving money to create base, and create base giving funding to berry club. Here the circled nodes are Daos that give money away, the thickness of that circle representing the total amount it has given in this month, and the thickness of arrow represents the amount of money transfer between these two DAOS. Then in May we see much more activities: ![](https://i.imgur.com/t7gVp3H.png) Again, community squad and create base were the main givers. Some DAOs would receive fundings from more than one sources. As time goes we can also see more layers of connection and more complexity of the network. This is the activity in September: ![](https://i.imgur.com/rCGIOnc.png) This is the activity in October: ![](https://i.imgur.com/DJAvREU.png) Notice this is probably not the full picture of the network complexity since we only have very limited data. But even in our limited data, we have seen increased DAO activities and funding transfer on the sputnik platform, indicating positive ecosystem health. ## Growing diversity of DAOs' purpose Our next major question is: is the diversity of this ecosystem growing too? Diversity is defined as the missions of DAOs. Specifically, we looked at the mission of each DAO and checked if the goal is directly related with promoting the near ecosystem, or is targeted at something else. This is because we observed that many big DAOs on sputnik seem to be started by the NEAR fundation with the goal of promoting the NEAR ecosystem, but for sputnik as a DAO platform, it is also designed to serve many other communities and purposes. So the diversity of DAOs is an important aspect of system health. By looking into the mission description and sometimes forum data, we categorized daos into two categories: mission alighed with NEAR ecosystem promotion, and others. Detailed categorization of each dao can be seen [here](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1SkBt0Ihy5ZrsooXva-xJhu5qsGnRn1zWdMETh9N-vUE/edit#gid=2138578473). Then we replotted the funding flow charts, with "near-based" DAOs colored in purple and others in cyan. We can see that in April there's all NEAR Daos: ![](https://i.imgur.com/QnXm2Dp.png) Then in May more DAOS are involved, although the majority is still near-based. But others like india covid relief fund also start to show up. ![](https://i.imgur.com/TVH5XPO.png) And here in September, more diversity can be shown here. The ones in gray are DAOs we cannot really categorize their purpose. Again we see more non-NEAR daos in the network. They all appear to be receivers but this could be an underestimation of their involvement because lack of data. ![](https://i.imgur.com/fcTJnh2.png) To see the overall trend of the activity with near v.s. non-near DAOs, we can plot the number of DAOs receiving funds in each month, separated by their mission category. And indeed we see the trend of more and more non-near DAOs receiving funding across time, although still less than the near-based DAOs. ![](https://i.imgur.com/RjfOWZa.png) ## Overview of current ecosystem We can also look into the current statistics of DAOs, for different mission types. This is the total sucessful proposal cross time agains the current value in the DAO's funds. The size of each data point represents the total number of proposals. ![](https://i.imgur.com/P92ZNfZ.png) Even though the biggest DAOs either in terms of proposal or current value is still the NEAR-based DAOs, there are some very noticeable non-NEAR DAOs: rucommunity, zenbikers, muti, incubadorapt, cudo, nearch4n, indiacovidrelief. **rucommunity** Mission: Create awareness and support various initiatives for Russian speaking community. Treasury: 484.63 Proposals: Content generation, partnerships. **muti** Mission: Digital equivalent to the physical collective Muti, taking good care of your artistic needs. Funding: 380 Proposals: Events, artist payouts Notes: Recently moved their funding to Astro DAO **indiacovidrelief** Mission: This DAO will act as a charitable entity for holding funds for the India Covid-19 relief activities. Funding: 2,654 Proposals: Move to a multi-sig wallet Notes: Got great participation across Near DAO ecosystem. Doesn't look like they spent the funds though. ### Analysis conclusion - Increasing numbers of DAOs and funding flows. - Increasing diversity of DAOS with noticeable non-near related DAOs. - Limitation: - Data availability: it's not the full picture of funding flow! Only considering a few main givers. - Mission categorization is based on very limited data with some subjectivity.
