# CHAPTER 11: PROJECT: Electric Bike/Car Project
## 1] Electric Car (Atleast 15 participants)
**Pros**
* Practically learn all of the concepts that have been taught in the course.
* All participants will get a chance for a hands on session as there will be enough work for everyone to work with.
* One can scale up these learnings and work on much bigger projects.
**Cons**
* Overall cost will be higher.
* The time required to complete the project is very long.
* Need 15 or more participants to be viable.
* It is very difficult to re-use / recycle the chassis material that has been firmly welded.
## 2] E-Rickshaw (10 - 15 participants)
**Pros**
* The working principles and practical exposure can be compared to that of a car.
* Less time consuming work when compared to building a car.
* Opting for open type chassis will eliminate the need for working on body works.
**Cons**
* Practical exposure is less when compared to a car.
## 3] Bike (Less than 10 participants)
**Pros**
* Lowest cost when compared.
* We already have prior experience with such project.
* Most parts used can be re used for next workshop.
* Least time consuming project.
**Cons**
* Practical exposure to suspension and steering system of a car will not be posssible.
* If higher number of participants are present, it will be difficult for everyone to have hands-on sessions.
## Electric Bike Project
## Calculations
1. A 48V, 1KW, 3000rpm Motor with a 3:1 reduction ratio and the wheel size to be of 12" diameter.
**Top speed**
Distance covered in 1 rotation = 2 x π x r
= 2 x π x 15.24
= 95.75 cm
Distance covered in 1000 rpm = 1000*95.75
= 95750 cm / min
Top speed = 0.9575 x 60
= **57.45 Kmph**
**Range**
Battery - 48V, 20Ah (960 Whr)
Cell - 3.6V, 2500mAh
Configuration - 13S8P (104 cells)
Usable Pack size = Wh x 0.80 x Peukerts
= 960 x 0.80 x 1
= 768 Whr
Motor Run time at 80% η and 70% throttle.
T = Supply / Load
= 768 / 875
= 52 min
Total distance covered
Range = Speed x Time
= 43.08 x 0.877
= **37.82 KM**
Battery - 48V, 40Ah (1.92 KWhr)
Cell - 3.6V, 2500mAh
Configuration - 13S16P (208 cells)
Range = **75.62KM**
Battery - 48V, 50Ah (2.4 KWhr)
Cell - 3.6V, 2500mAh
Configuration - 13S20P (260 cells)
Range = **94.52KM**
2. Hub motor of 48v, 800w, 800 rpm and 12" diameter wheel.
**Top speed**
Distance covered in 1 rotation = 2 x π x r
= 2 x π x 15.24
= 95.75 cm
Distance covered in 800 rpm = 800*95.75
= 76600 cm / min
Top speed = 0.4787 x 60
= **45.96 Kmph**
**Range**
Battery - 48V, 40Ah (1920 Whr)
Cell - 3.6V, 2500mAh
Configuration - 13S16P (208 cells)
Usable Pack size = Wh x 0.80 x Peukerts
= 1920 x 0.80 x 1
= 1536 Whr
Motor Run time at 80% η and 70% throttle.
T = Supply / Load
= 1536 / 700
= 1 hr 11 min
Total distance covered
Range = Speed x Time
= 32.17 x 2.19
= **70.45 KM**
3. Electric bicycle with a 36V, 300 rpm, 350W motor mounted on a wheel of 26" diameter.
**Top Speed**
Distance covered in 1 rotation = 2 x π x r
= 2 x π x 33.02
= 207.47 cm
With a speed reducion of 3:1
Distance covered in 100 rpm = 100*207.47
= 20747 cm / min
Top speed = 0.20747 x 60
= **12.44 Kmph**
**Range**
Battery - 36V, 15Ah (540 Whr)
Cell - 3.6V, 2500mAh
Configuration - 10S6P (60 cells)
Usable Pack size = Wh x 0.80 x Peukerts
= 540 x 0.80 x 1
= 432 Whr
Motor Run time at 80% η and 70% throttle.
T = Supply / Load
= 432 / 306.25
= 1 hr 24 min
Total distance covered
Range = Speed x Time
= 8.711 x 1.41
= **12.28 KM**
