James Van Der Beek (Pose) has signed on to star in Sidelined: The QB and Me, an upcoming Original based on the hit Wattpad young adult novel QB Bad Boy and Me by Tay Murray. To date, the novel has been read over 31 million times. The film is available to watch on Flixtor info.
Sidelined tells the story of Dallas (Agudon), a troubled but headstrong dancer who is determined to get into the best dance school in the country, her late mother's alma mater. But this dream is suddenly shattered when Drayton (Beck), a cocky but secretly sad football star, bursts into her life with a story of his own. Can the two make their dreams come true together, or will their dreams be put on hold?
Van Der Beek plays Leroy Lahey, Drayton's stern but well-meaning father. Leroy has high expectations of his son, both on the soccer field and in his personal life. It drives him to strive for excellence while simultaneously struggling to express his own sadness and vulnerability.
Cox plays Miss Alicia, owner of a dance studio in a once-good small town. She realizes that Dallas is a technically skilled dancer with extraordinary potential. But she worries that Dallas' dancing lacks the soul and spontaneity needed to get into a prestigious dance school.
The film is directed by Justin Wu (Reginald the Vampire) and written by Mary Gullino (Upload) and Crystal Ferreiro (Diary of a Future President). Producers on Pic include Adam Wescott, McKenna Marshall, Aaron Levitz and Lindsay Ramey of Wattpad Webtoon Studios. David Madden is executive producer for Wattpad Webtoon Studios, while Lindsay MacAdam, David Wei and Tony Chan are executive producers for Thunderbird Entertainment's Great Pacific Media, which will finance and produce the project in Canada.
