# Mindeaters ## About ### What is a Mindeater? #### Blurb Mindeaters are creatures from the Intruder's plane. They are part of a pseudo-hivemind under the Intruder where they have their own wills, but are "moderated" by the Intruder. #### Themes - Mind power - Mental draining - Non-human entities - Extra-dimensional horror - Extra-dimensional invasion ### Goals - Create an antagonist that is obviously non-human but still playable - Create a more cosmic horror themed antagonist - Create an antagonist that has new/unique gameplay themes ### Non-goals - Repeat features that previous antagonists have - Make an antagonist that is unfun to play - Create an antagonist that doesn't need to interact with humans to perform its abilities - Create a complicated antagonist - Create an antagonist that snowballs #### Intent - Mindeaters will be a random pick in the Spooky game mode, to be merged later into an Intruder game mode if it works out - Mindeaters in the Spooky game mode are meant to cause chaos ## Mindeater Mechanics ### Starting out The Mindeater starts out as an intangible entity. It can choose to become tangible anywhere it wants, once. ### Unique features - Non-human in form. Some sort of cosmic-horror. - Cloaks when going into darkness, if not in combat. Going into light will uncloak it after a few seconds. Taking damage or being stunned, or using certain abilities, de-cloaks it and prevents it from recloaking for a bit of time. - While visible, can be seen by the AI and cyborgs. When invisible, can't be seen by them. - Can move through reflective objects. - Opens doors on touch - Full heat, cold, oxygen damage, and radiation immunity. - Full stun immunity. Receives disorients and staggered effect from stuns/flashes - Damaged by space (starlight of this reality harms it) - One built in ranged attack. - Doesn't hear radio (may change later to hear radio) - Runic/intangible speech (cool to do custom font, but low priority) - Has Intruder chat channel (prefix a message with ":int" or press radio hotkey) ### Stat points The Mindeater is based around gaining Intellect from targets. Intellect has a low max cap and is used to cast some of its abilities. ### Attacks The Mindeater has no hands for attacking. Instead, it's main method of attacking people is through its Brain drain ability. ### Abilities - Brain drain (0 intellect) - Private channel that's interrupted on attack or stun, target a living mob to gain 6 Intellect on them per second, while in range. Removes the mindeater's invisibility on use. - Target mob receives 2 brain per second, and randomly picked tox damage, brute damage, or burn damage each second. - Brain damage dealt is capped past a certain amount - Having haloperidol, morphine, or ethanol in you reduces Intellect gained by the mindeater. - Brain drain drains chemicals from the target, replacing them with toxin - Taking mannitol will reduce Intellect collected on you while not being brain drained. Synaptizine and atropine work too, but only effectively at high Intellect collected - Below 25 Intellect, the target receives below 25% threshold messages. - After 25 Intellect, the target starts receives a screen overlay that shows their mind is being eaten. Purple particles will start floating around them. - After 50 Intellect, the target receives 50% threshold messages. - After 75 Intellect, the target will start hallucinating plane merging phenomena, like Intruder turfs appearing or funky animations on random objects. - After 100 Intellect, the person's sprite starts warping. - A target can only be brain drained by 1 mindeater at a time - Other - If targeting a silicon, it will receive a screen overlay, receive chat messages, and take % max health damage. - Doesn't work on dead targets - Regenerate (1 intellect) - Use Intellect to heal. Can only be used out of combat. - Paralyze (free) - Casts on the target you are brain draining. Reduces their vision. Makes them unable to move and take 1 step towards you and 1 stab for each lack of 10 Intellect (out of 100) on them. - Pierce the Veil (100 intellect) - Visible channel to send your brain drain target to an Intruder plane arena. If they have 100 Intellect on them, the channel is instant. Gain a 3 charge shield while channeling, if the shield is destroyed the ability ends. Charges are removed on being attacked. - Disguise (free) - Toggles your disguise. Takes 3 seconds to transform into your disguise. - Set Disguise (free) - Sets whether you will disguise as a random human, mouse, or cockroach - Human forms have door access set by the job disguised as - Critter forms take increased damage, have reduced stamina, and take extra damage from mousetraps ### Death - Has 3 lives - After dying, it will become intangible again, and has a cooldown before it can re-manifest ### Gameplay - Fast paced. Fast Intellect drain rate, with low maximum cap on what can be stored. - Mindeaters are suddenly much more lethal once they've collected max Intellect on a person. - Very non-human, but not as deadly as antags like werewolves.
