# LISK MEETUP
## Theme: Onboarding/Empowering Next-Gen Builders.
Hello, it's your favorite Ch3fdev and today, I will be giving you a summary of the Lisk Meetup at The prestigious "Blockfuse Labs, Jos Nigeria".
## Introduction
The major problems of blockchain are Scalability, Security and Decentralization.
Layer 2 protocols are building on layer 1 to solve basically the 3 problems above.
At first L1 protocols like Bitcoin, Ethereum were fast in processing transactions but, as more people get to come on board, speed becomes a thing of concern.
Also, gas fees (tranasaction fees) was very high that quite a number of people couldnt afford to use the blockchain platforms. Hence, the need for L2 protocols like Lisk
What is Lisk?
Lisk is a friendly gateway blockchain development/protocol. It’s a platform that makes creating blockchain applications as simple as building regular web apps.

## Q&A Session
1. **What role does Lisk play with lowering the barrier of entry for new developers?**
**Answer**: we actually focus on coming down to the grass root by providing basic tools needed to make entry easier compare to other blockchains.
We also organize meetups where pressing issues can be discussed. Also, development cohorts are being organized to onboard new and ppotential developers.
2. **Are there any grant/hackaton programs for builders?**
**Answer:** there is always an active grant, depending on the level of your project. Also, we are enlarging our incubation programs to absorb as many projects as possible. There is a builders’ fund (partial), irrespective of whether or not the grant is open, as long as your project is topnotch.
3. **What are the key skills that new developers should focus on, in order to succeed?**
**Answer:** for a developer to succeed in web3, he must first of all succeed in web2. The basics are the most important. The tiny details are meant to be absorbed and enjoyed. HTML, CSS, JavaScript etc. Programming is an accumulated knowledge, if you skip the basics, you will have problem in the future.
4. **How can we make Blockchain development accessible to beginners with little or no coding experience?**
Answer: A tricky question though, but as a beginner developer, forget about Blockchain development, first of all succeed in web2. Then you go on to what next, which is web3. If you are not sufficient with web2, then you will crash in web3.
5. **What chalenges did you face as a first time Blockchain co-founder and how did you overcome them?**
**Answer:** the truth is I am still facing those challenges, we cant run away from them. When we started the Blockfuse Labs, we had the intention of training good web2 developers into web3 (we had no plan to hold web2 classes). But we were shocked that during the first Cohort, we set out the test to access the applicants. Out of 500 applicants, only 4 passed above 50%. So, in order to solve this challenge, we had to delve into web2 training, so as to onboard super developers into web3
6. **What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneur who wants to go into Blockchain development?**
**Answer:** when building, look at a long term solution. Look at problems first of all in your surrounding, and build a product that will stay for long. This cuts across all spheres, both web2 and web3.
With the existence of protocols like Lisk, you have a solid support, not just financially but also mentorship, sponsorship, and all that is needed.
**Incubation** is like planting something and nurturing it. Its one thing to know how to code, and there is another thing to becoming a business minded person. Incubation is, helping you to define your business logic and market strategies. Having taught you all these, then we (Lisk) can boldly invest our money.
7. **As a legal practitioner and a developer, what are the legal considerations a new Blockchain developers should be looking at?**
Answer: as a newbie in the Blockchain as it concerns Nigeria, there is no law as to say whether what you are doing is right or wrong. My advise is to just innovate, find the space, test your ideas, let it work, just build and someday the law will catch up with you. Innovation is always ahead of regulation. You just need to align
8. **How important is community supports in on-boarding and retaining new Blockchain developers?**
**Answer:** Community support is very important. You need several people to use your product. And you can get this interactions from the community. The use of communities is very key in Blockchain development. There are several solutions waiting to be accessed in the community. Be part of a community
9. **Are there any initiatives available to on-board non technical people into the Blockchain?**
**Answer:** There are so many opportunities for everyone, not just developers. We need so many people from different professions to come on board e.g Blockchain Architects, Blockchain Managers etc. There is a place for everyone, just understand the use cases of Blockchain and you are good to go. Plus, there are airdrops for early adopters.
10. **How can regulatory uncertainty impact the adoption of Blockchain technology and what can builders do to stay complaint?
**Answer:** One of the biggest problem with regulatory uncertainty is "wide gap". Truely, we have builders and end users but, there are no middlemen such as Banks, Network providers, Medical centres etc., who are ready to adopt Blockchain technology because of regulatory uncertainty. They do not really know the stand of the Government concerning the concept of Blockchain. People tend to trust traditional platforms(web2).
The advise is that builders should stay compliant, but just build and innovate. Innovation goes beyond regulation. you dont regulate what has not been innovated so, Just Build.
### My Conclusion
1. Lisk is a first-class protocol which is open to Technical and Non-technical people alike.
- [ ] 2. Lisk will give you that support you need to excel as a builder.
3. There are grants for topnotch projects.
4. There is the incubation period which ensures that a builder is well nurtured in terms of skills, business orientation and networking.
5. Finally, Lisk believes in community participation and trust. This is why Lisk is building a large community and also partnering with existing communities so as to bring the goodnews of Blockchain to everyone.
