**5G Network Operation Modes:**
• Non-Stand-Alone (NSA) Operation: Use 4G core network
• Stand-Alone (NSA) Operation: Use 5G core network
RAN Transformation: move the BBU closer to Mobile Core
RAN Disaggregation: Separate BBU into two part which is DU and CU

O-RAN Alliance is founded by AT&T, China Mobile, Deutsche Telekom, NTT DOCOMO, and Orange in Feb. 2018
Two core principles:
1. Openness:
• Open interfaces
• Open source
2. Intelligence:
• Leverage learning technologies


**Benefit O-RAN Architecture**
1. Reduce cost network of CAPEX and OPEX
2. improve network efficiency and performance
3. import new capability with great agility
