Dear councilors and Kusama community,
The nova wallet team should apologize to all of us for violating intellectual property and trademark laws. We have nothing to apologize for and have always been working for the good of the ecosystem.
As explained previously in our long letters and posts, we are just protecting our IP. We never once claimed that the Apache 2-licensed source code could not be used by nova wallet, so don’t believe their lies, even if they keep repeating them. It is fine to use the source code according to the license and anyone can do this.
However, internal company files that are not licensed, internal trade secrets, and the Fearless logomark that is trademarked cannot be used in other apps, so we will always fight to protect our IP, because it is the right thing to do. If we do not protect our IP or show we do not care, others will violate our IP rights and may be inclined to violate the IP rights of others, which will hurt everyone.
It would cheapen the DOTSAMA ecosystem if bad actors that violate intellectual property rights are not made to follow normal business norms and ethics. Our response is not emotional or based on a desire to extinguish competition, but rather, we are just following normal and professional business standards, because that is what is best for the ecosystem. Laws exist for a reason, because they define how humans relate to and collaborate with each other; they need to be followed in order for humanity to be able to build on each others’ work and to elevate us all.
Respectfully yours,
