## 1. Decentralized technologies timeline: Findings

Presentation as invited workshop leader for InnovationLab: WEB3 by Vytas Jankauskas at [La Plateforme](https://laplateforme.io/en/innovation-lab-ep2/), Marseille

### Factual
- Architectural practices since the 60's proposed the idea of Information Architecture to dwell with the complexities of the deep urbanisation of those times; At the same time the first protocols for networked information sharing were layed out
- The abstraction of the OSI layer model on the application layer is still one of the only parts that we see of the whole internet protocolary schema.
- Architectural typologies discourses expanded trough the writting of Cedric Price and Christopher Alexander to expand the role of Architects in the "virtual space"
### Aesthetic
- The processes of RFC are a unique case of human conensus.
- This protocols come from software and engineering communities.
- The relationship between internet speed and the needed protocols for that and the rythm of life of each society (inequality)
- Pervasive (ambient) networks cohabitation. For example WiFi is always present in urban context.
- WiFi & Sound analogies as invisible/ambient messengers of information
- The visual power of the synchonisation of masses of people but
- Circulation of information = Circulation of sound
- The notion of autonomy as most of the processes of the protocols require machines
- The client-server relationship was also manifested in the spaces of victorian age and in the furniture such as the *Dumb Waiter*

### Subjects that I should dig deeper
- The relationship to "earth" layer as in the Stack by Bratton
- NetArt and media art that that manifested/reacted against some uses of the early protocols
- RFC and WEB Standards consensus mechanisms
- Spatial consecuences of protocols like HTTP (Material: Data centers, Personal computers,WiFi- Social: Inequality of access)
- Off-the-cloud network
### Quotes
> With the massive implementation of peerto-peer technologies, introduced by data stock exchanges likeNapster, Gnutella and KaZaa, the distinction between master and server is canceled out in the electronic domain at the same time. On the net, there is a constant give and take among equally positioned actors.

>If the Internet appears to us as such a key global communication technology, it is not because of overwhelming numbers or mass appeal (...). It is rather because, unlike the other global communication technologies mentioned above, it has been conceived and evolved as a network of networks,or an internetwork, a topological formation that presents some challenging insights into the dynamics underlying the formation of a global network culture.”
>
> Network culture: Politics for the information age,Tiziana Terranova, 2004
>I would like to propose the concept of the ‘Red Stack’, that is a new nomos for the post-capitalist common. Materializing the ‘red stack’ involves engaging with (at least) three levels of sociotechnical innovation: virtual money, social networks, and biohypermedia. These three levels although ‘stacked’ that is layered are to be understood at the same time as interacting transversally and nonlinearly. They constitute a possible way to think about an infrastructure of autonomization linking together technology and subjectivation.

> Through an anarchic structure Sennett stages an extremely provocative
> inversion. While urban planners and social organizers may draw upon notions of
> cohesion and familiarity as means for establishing community, Sennett in contrast
> sees disorder as productive for urban structures and relations composed by
> multiplicity. Disorder may function as a means for encouraging social encounters, and
> for nurturing relations to what is unexpected or out of place. Disorder acts as a force
> of interruption, and in this regard, Sennett stakes out a productive understanding of
> the overheard – what I would emphasize as the potential of the fragment. A city of
> pieces. I hear something over my shoulder, next to me – a word, a sudden flow of
> dialogue; it cuts in: what did they say? It turns me, the intensity of this fragment, the
> power of the incomplete and even the incoherent. The overheard, following Sennett,
> is driven by a force of rupture, by what I may hear without truly knowing for sure: a
> fragment, and even a shard – that pierces.

## 3. First piece in Japan
### Objective:
**Develop a sound installation that represents the swarm of nodes in a P2P Open system.**
### Why:
Internet Protocols and other mediated subprotocols such as WiFi create an overall *Ambient Network*. How does P2P node file exchange protocols sound?
### Intention:
I intend to make this sound installation to generate a dialog on the networks that are pervasive in the daily life in a city;
### How:
Use bit packets of file sharing to create sounds (Using data of a real file sharing to sequence sounds harmonized in Hirajoshi scale ).
### Materiality:
Raspberry Pi x 12, 8 speakers, 2 subwoofers, 4 analog synthesisers to create polyphony, [MidiHub](https://blokas.io/midihub/),
### Setup:
Raspberry Pi's will be hang on the wall and the speakers and subwoofers will be forming a .
### Outcomes:
- A working participatory sound installation exhibited in Tokyo and in Geneva that will serve as data to write to my writen PhD manuscript
- A guided workshop on using local WiFi as a medium for creative uses in the context of Designers and artists. Understanding the stakes local wifi networks not only for sharing internet but also for sharing resources.
- Interviews with :https://naotokui.net/ [Chip Tanaka](https://www.chiptanaka.com/) & Tetsuo Kogawa [Jun Murai](https://www.internethalloffame.org/inductees/jun-murai)
### Publication + Dissemination
- As part of my grant in Tokyo I have to submit a report.
- A video Of the installation ( done before september 23 opening)
