# AbuSMP Rulebook (V1.1)
*The AbuSMP server is designed to be a small, tight-knit community of friends who all want to simply enjoy Minecraft and the various mods we can immerse ourselves within. As such, our rulebook is written to ensure that all members can enjoy the server without impeding upon the experience of others, and to protect the progression of other players and encourage further growth and play.*
## Section 1: General Rules
*A miscellaneous assembly of rules that do not necessarily fit into one category, but are nonetheless vital to the player experience.*
### 1.1: Practice common sense
1. This rulebook was written by a human, and humans are not perfect. We cannot possibly write a set of rules which comprehensively covers any and all disruptive behaviors, which is why we rely on the players the most to maintain the status quo. If you were invited to join the server, there is without a doubt trust in your abilities to practice common sense. Do not do anything that would give reason to lose that trust.
### 1.2: Animal counts may not exceed 20 animals
1. No claim may contain more than 20 entities at a time, in order to ensure server resources are evenly distributed.
### 1.3: Unrealistic claims are not permitted
1. Do not make unrealistic or unjustifiable land claims (i.e. Making a 500x500 claim for a 5x5 house).
2. Do not create player claims or settlements within 200 blocks of another claim, unless the owner of the nearby claim consents. Staff reserve the right to vacate any player who violates this policy if there is a complaint received.
### 1.4: The construction of inherently disruptive structures is not permitted
1. Players are not permitted to construct builds which are solely disruptive to the player experience (i.e. lag machines, phallic symbols, or anything which is generally disruptive and inherently unrealistic).
### 1.5: Play at your own risk
1. While our rules are designed to minimize conflict, there will come a time when it ends up happening anyway. Players are asked to be mindful of others, but mistakes are made. Do not play in a server which is intended to be a harder experience, and expect everything to go your way. Players cannot reasonably be expected to cater their actions to your every need if it is a ludicrous expectation of them to do so.
### 1.6: Certain farms are restricted from being constructed
1. This includes: Wither farms. Consult a staff member for more information.
### 1.7: Three strike policy
1. In general, players will be allowed a maximum of three offenses before they are permanently banned from the SMP. Staff can decide to ban players permanently regardless of this policy at their discretion based on the violation.
## Section 2: Cheating
*AbuSMP staff encourages players to progress through the game legitimately and enforces a set of rules to prevent unreasonable advantage over others.*
### 2.1: External cheat clients, tools and mods are not permitted
1. External software that is designed to provide players with tools, abilities or access to information that is otherwise impossible through traditional gameplay is frowned upon. Any player caught using cheats in this manner will be banned without hesitation.
1. There are some exceptions to this rule, such as using certain miniscule software to streamline gameplay, but not provide an unfair advantage. **A list of approved modifications or tools can be found here:**
1. OP Auto Clicker or any autoclicker tool (provided it is only used for personal progression and not in any player-to-player interaction whatsoever)
2. TinyTask (only to create macros for automating tasks, not to be used in player-to-player interaction)
2. Players who wish to use software or tools not listed here should consult a staff member for approval before use, or risk facing moderation action.
### 2.2: Abuse of glitches or bugs prevalent in mods or software is not permitted
1. Bugs and glitches in the Minecraft Java Edition framework or our various mods are not meant to be abused for personal gain. Any bugs found should be reported to a staff member to be fixed by server management. If you are not sure a feature is working as intended, consult with a staff member prior to use.
2. Players found in possession of cheated items can be subjected to a data wipe. Staff can randomly check player inventories at any time.
## Section 3: Griefing
*Griefing can often be very disruptive to the player experience, and can prove to be detrimental to progression. As such, AbuSMP staff frowns upon any instances of player griefing.*
### 3.1: Griefing and unwarranted modification of player structures, land and possessions are not permitted
1. Modification is considered any change made to the original structure or player possession from its original state. Any modification made without consent from the owner is strictly forbidden.
1. This rule only applies to structures or land that is claimed by the player. If there is not a valid claim, or the rightful claimant does not see the modification as unwarranted, the rule is non enforceable. In cases of individual possessions being modified or stolen, the owner of the container or claim which the possession previously resided within is looked to for final consent.
1. This is not the case for community structures, which fall under the purview of server administration. While they may be individually maintained by members of the community, disruptive modifications to the structures and their contents is forbidden. If a player is not sure of what exactly is a community structure, they are encouraged to consult a staff member. Ignorance is not an excuse.
1. At the same time, players must remember community structures are accessible to all members of the community. Do not do anything within them that you would not do outside of your own claims, otherwise you risk loss that staff members cannot guarantee can be restored.
1. Do not grief or disruptively destroy the territory surrounding claims for up to 200 blocks. Additionally, do not leave unnatural modifications to the terrain and
envrionment (i.e. floating trees, craters). Preserve the generation!
1. There are few exceptions to this rule. Player structures that clearly allow or are designed for limited modification can exempt a player from this rule – an example being any farmland. As long as the modification is reversible or is within the intended use of said structure, it is permitted. As a rule of thumb, it must not be irreversible or unreasonably disruptive to the established flow of gameplay.
1. With farms, a player must be careful to ensure that their actions do not unreasonably hinder the farm and its production. Permitted modifications are strictly limited to harvesting of crops and killing of animals, provided that the player either replants the crops or breeds the animals back to the amount of animals prior to their actions, respectively. If breeding is not possible, the player must absolutely leave two (2) animals of the same type remaining, so that the owner can breed them and repopulate their farm.
1. Named or owned animals (pets) are exempt from this rule and may not under any circumstance be killed, unless said animal was involved within a PvP conflict or does not currently reside within a player-claimed territory or PvE zone (more info on PvE zones in §5.1).
## Section 4: Respectful Conduct
*A community cannot exist without respectful and fruitful members. AbuSMP is built upon the foundation of its community members, and relies on their respectful conduct and treatment of others to continue fostering our close-knit community.*
### 4.1: Respect others
1. Do not be rude to others, or make offensive comments. AbuSMP is a safe space for all, and any instances of homophobia, racism or other discriminatory comments are strictly forbidden.
1. Of course, banter between members is allowed. What happens in voice chat groups stays in voice chat groups. Outside of said groups is a different matter.
### 4.2: Be mindful of each other
1. A community is only a community if everyone has the belief of such. Help others when they are in need, and treat people the way you would want to be treated. Don’t be an asshole and go out of your way to ruin the experience of others.
## Section 5: Player versus Player Interaction
*While we are not strictly a pacifist server, there are still some guidelines for players to follow to ensure that their PvP engagements do not cause detriment to others.*
### 5.1: Killing or harming players and extensions outside of PvP zones is not permitted
1. PvE (Player versus Entity) zones are defined as any area which is clearly marked as an established region. These can usually be recognized by the area text displayed upon entering (i.e. “Entering [Name].”). PvE zones are meant to provide sanctuary to players not seeking PvP conflict, and as such, any harm done to players within these zones is strictly forbidden.
1. As a general rule of thumb (but not absolute), any player establishment should be viewed as a PvE zone.
1. PvP zones are simply any area that is not already claimed (specifically, claims that do not permit unwarranted PvP) or an established PvE zone.
1. “Extensions” of players can be viewed as any possession of the player which can be damaged or modified as a result of PvP conflict (i.e. pets).
### 5.2: PvP conflicts should remain exclusive of non-parties and lands
1. Be mindful of your surroundings when engaging in conflict. Do not involve others that do not wish to be involved (within the purview of §5.1), and likewise do not cause unreasonable damage to structures
1. An exception can be made to any players or lands which are party to the initiating player of the conflict.
1. Example: If the player starting the PvP decides to flee to his base, which is claimed and does not permit PvP, the opposing parties may still enter his claim and continue the battle
### 5.3: Remain honorable and respectful in PvP
1. Do not spawn camp players. In general, after death, a player should be granted up to 30 seconds of grace before harm upon them is justifiable. If the player respawning initiates harm within those 30 seconds, then subsequent harm done against them is justified, even if it is within the grace period.
1. This grace period also applies to players joining the server. The timeframe in this instance can be extended as players joining may take longer to load in and be able to interact. Players are advised not to attack others joining until they are confident the victim is fully loaded in.
1. Do not combat log. Players should wait a minimum of 5 minutes after being engaged in
justified PvP before disconnecting. Unreasonable combat logging can be met with a data
wipe.
1. Disconnection due to external circumstance (i.e. unstable connection) can be exempted from this rule, provided the player can prove so.
1. Do not loot players after death, unless they possess items which were stolen from the looter. In which case, the looter must be able to prove the items were originally theirs if the victim contests their claims.
1. Trapping is permitted in PvP zones, but the trap must be escapeable.
