# ECSA Foundation ## A Swiss non-profit stewarding economic space agency ECSA Foundation is an independent, non-profit foundation established in Zug, Switzerland (2017), dedicated to promoting and developing the economic space agency protocols and related open, decentralized software architectures. It acts as the legal and operational backbone for creating the economic agency spread, facilitating the genesis of the cECSA token and stewarding ecosystem growth and integrity. It ensures that participation in the economic transition is both legally compliant and structurally aligned with the project’s long-term values. The journey to build and deploy foundational economic protocols like ESP requires a dedicated, stable, and mission-aligned entity. Since 2017, the ECSA Foundation, based in Zug, Switzerland, has served this crucial role, providing the legal, operational, and financial stewardship necessary to bring the vision of Internet-Native Economic Agency to life. ### Mandate & Purpose (as per its Deed of Foundation): According to Article 2 of its founding deed, the ECSA Foundation's purpose is promoting and developing new technologies and applications, especially in the fields of new open and decentralized software architectures. A dominating but not exclusive focus is set on the promotion and development of the so-called economic space agency protocol and the related technologies, as well as the promotion and support of applications using the protocol. ### Key Functions & Responsibilities: * Core Protocol R&D: The Foundation directly funds and supports the research, design, formal specification, and engineering of the Economic Space Protocol (ESP), the ECSA Drive, and the Network Liquidity Medium (NLM). * Ecosystem Development & Grant-Making: The Foundation actively fosters the growth of a vibrant ecosystem around ESP by providing grants and supporting third-party projects. * Legal & Operational Stewardship: It provides the robust Swiss legal framework, manages early contribution periods, ensures regulatory compliance, handles audits, and oversees operational needs. Its entrepreneurial capacity (Unternehmensstiftung) allows it to conduct business related to its purpose. * cECSA Token Genesis & Allocation Recommendation: The Foundation maintains the ledger of early contributions and, upon the protocol's readiness, will recommend an initial "Genesis State" including the allocation of cECSA tokens to the emerging network community. While the Foundation facilitates this process, the final adoption of this state depends on the community operating the decentralized protocol. * Guardian of the Vision & Long-Term Integrity: Acts as a steward to ensure the economic space agency project remains true to its founding principles of distributing economic agency. This includes guiding the evolution of network governance towards increasing decentralization and protocolized organization. * Network Participant & Legal Interface: The Foundation itself is a participant in the ECSA network, holding a significant position in cECSA. It acts as the network's stable legal interface to the broader world, a core contribution to the network's utility (uECSA). ### Governance & Accountability: The ECSA Foundation operates under detailed bylaws and an internal control system. It is governed by a Council (Board of Directors) and is subject to annual full audits and the comprehensive supervision of the Swiss Federal Supervisory Authority for Foundations (FSAF) to which it reports yearly.
