# Stardew Valley Guide ## Introduction Welcome to Stardew Valley! You’ve chosen to give up the dreary life of working your ass off at Joja to start a farm in the small town of Pelican Town! You’ve made a great choice! However you’re probably wondering “what now?” That’s where we come in! Introducing your very own How To guide for Stardew Valley! We start with helpful tips and tricks I’ve personally picked up as well as notes from other friends who have been playing! Then we will go into festivals, the Community Center, the Joja warehouse route and so much more! Included will even be links to the official wiki for even more information! Stay tuned to the very end to see info on modding if you’re interested in adding a little pizazz to your game if you’re bored of the same old thing (but how could you when each playthrough is unique?!) ## Getting started Don't know which farm to pick? Fear not! I've got your back! If you're just starting trust me, do the starter farm. It feels basic but it gives you the best, most rounded experience for Stardew Valley. You can focus on a little of everything while you get used to all the mechanics and controls. If you want more info on the rest of the farms, just cause you're curious check here! https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Farm_Maps ## Tips and tricks I've learned along the way 1. Winter, That is gonna be the best time to upgrade your hoe, and your watering can. Nothing grows in winter outside of the greenhouse. 2. **KEEP ONE OF EVERYTHING** You never know when you'll need it. I keep items for the community Center or geodes to be opened by Clint 3. Prismatic Shard- Keep your first, you're gonna wanna take it with you to the desert. You can exchange it for the best sword in game! 4. Get to bed **BEFORE** 2 AM! 5. If you need more wood cut trees in the forest! They will regrow! ## Crops ### Spring Y1 So, You've decided to become a farmer, but have no idea where to start after planting the Turnip Seeds left in your house... Alright, Here's a few trips to get you started! First and foremost you need to clear a little area for your garden. You're gonna want to make a chest first with the wood you cut down so you can easily store your materials! I like to make a few as I clean my farm every day. 1. Keep your wood and stone. Trust me, You are gonna need it at some point and You're not gonna have enough. Whatever you do, **DO NOT SELL IT** 2. Really keep all your resources. Wood, Stone, Sap, Clay, and extra minerals (after you've donated the first) 3. Watch your energy. Once you're out of energy, you're gonna pass out and the day will end taking away some money. 4. The first week or so is *BRUTAL* You can't do a lot and your farm is a disaster. Trust me, just do what you can each day and then take the rest of the day meeting villiagers Once you've used most of your energy on day one, I reccommend going and meeting as many townsfolk as you can. It's a quest and you'll see there are 28 people you want to meet. Don't worry, It may feel like a lot, but it really isn't. You'll find most of them as you look around town for your first time. Pop into Pierre's if you have the chance and pick up a few seeds you'll need for the Community center if you go that route. If not, selling crops is still pretty profitable. 1. You will need at least one Parsnip, Potato, Green Bean and Cauliflour for the community center, but trust me, Hold on to at least one Cauliflour for a request later. 2. You will also need 5 Gold star Parsnips for the Community Center, Don't worry too much if you can't hit 5, but I do reccommend trying to get those. You'll need fertilizer, but you can easily make that once you get the recipe. 3. Coffee Beans can be dropped in the mines by soot sprites. They are soooo helpful. Plant a few if you can, they regrow so you will get a ton as long as you water constantly. (personally, I try to plant between 8 and 12 coffee plants) They grow in both Spring and Summer. You use them for coffee which gives you a speed boost which is super useful once you have a keg to use. So stockpile the hell outta those beans. (And sell all your silver and higher beans for a little cash while you're at it) Another good idea is to go down into Cindersap Forest and across the river. There are some Spring Onions that grow down there! They're good to eat to get energy, or sell to make some extra Gold! 1. Forageables reset every sunday, I reccommend just waiting to pick most forageables until Saturday. The exceptions are Spring Onions, Salmonberries, and Blackberries (these are found on bushes only during certain seasons) You also might need to go pick up Forageables on Friday's before Festivals as well. If you attend the Festival you will lose the entire day. I reccommend going as it boosts friendship with all NPC's and all potential Partners. 2. The Travelling Merchant comes every Friday and Sunday. **GO CHECK HER STOCK** You can get rare seeds from her which you will need. Also if you ticked the "complete in year one" box she is going to have the red cabbage available sometime in year one. You don't want to miss that 3. Watch when you plant items, they will die at the end of the season. Check the picture below for the Spring Crops last day to plant for a single Harvest. **MAKE SURE YOU WATER EVERY DAY** (if it's a rainy day you don't need to water, but sunny and windy you will) Theres also no need to water trees, tree seeds, or rice shoots. Personally I don't plant tree seeds (outside of fruit trees), you can use them for Field snack in a pinch. 4. **DO NOT CUT YOUR GRASS!** Keep your grass until *after* you build your first silo. Once you have the silo your grass will turn into hay to store. And you are gonna need it before Winter. Keep an eye on your silo inventory level by interacting with it. If it gets low, cut more grass. If you've already cut all of your grass do not fret, You just need to go to Pierre's to get the grass starter recipe and you will be able to plant more. 5. Plant your Fruit Trees a whole Season in advance to be able to get anything from them. So Year one you're gonna wanna save to try to get the Summer trees to get those fruits by summer. (They are needed in a bundle, but there are othyer items you can use if you can't get any fruit trees) ![Spring](https://hackmd.io/_uploads/S1Bx0zFR6.png) ***Note: Not all seeds pictured are available year 1*** **Note:** You will want to *TRY* to remember to participate in festivals and gift on birthdays. It will boost friendship with NPCs. With Festivals it will boost friendships with every NPC you talk to. SO you don't have to worry so much about gifts and talking to them every day if you're like me and have other priorities. ### Summer Y1 Fiddlehead ferns only available in summer can get from either secret woods or green rain which is also only in summer. Summer storms are great for collecting battery packs *IF* you have a lightning rod. You don't really use battery packs in early game but they are huge late game. Brand new trout derby is a two day event where you catch as many rainbow trouts as possible. While it may *seem* like a waste to spend two full days fishing, the rewards are good and you get to sell all of the fish you catch so you can make good money, get rare loot, and level up your fishing quite a bit! Corn and sunflowers can grow in both summer and fall so they are definitely worth the investment Sunflowers will also give seeds on harvest ![Summer](https://hackmd.io/_uploads/HJoXe7tAa.png) ***Note: Not all seeds pictured are available year 1*** ### Fall Y1 ![Fall](https://hackmd.io/_uploads/BkhVl7t0a.png) ***Note: Not all seeds pictured are available year 1*** ### Winter Y1 ## The Mines (By Sapph) Trust me, the mines are not as scary as they seem. I can usually get through to the bottom before Winter of Y1. Here are some tips and tricks that help me and may help you 1. Watch your energy and health! Once your health hits 0, you *will* pass out in the mines. If you pass out inside the mines, you will lose gold AND random items out of your inventory. (This could even include your weapon!) 2. Prioritize your goals! If you're just trying to get down as far as you can as fast as you can, get some cherry bombs and blow everything up. This is *not* what I recommend or how I go about the mines but it's still an option. If you want to get every single item, monster loot, etc. then you're gonna want to take your time on each floor to take out every monster and break as many rocks as you can. If you're like me and want to focus on ores *and* progressing through the mines here are a couple tricks I use - Don't *search* for the stairs! I know it sounds a little backwards but trust me, you will find the stairs while you're going through the floor. If you've gotten all the loot you want and there are no more monsters, then yea hit some rocks until you find them but if you're going into the mines on a good luck day, this should be pretty rare. - Explore the entire floor first and grab any ores you see while taking out any aggro enemies. This can get you to where you'll have enough ore to upgrade your pickaxe and axe to steel pretty quickly. Usually I can upgrade *at least* one tool to gold by the beginning of Fall. - Don't go hunting the enemies. Unless I need a specific enemy for a request, I don't worry about clearing every enemy on the floor. The only enemies I do *always* hunt is dust sprites because they have pretty good loot and can drop coal which you can never have too much of. For ghosts, you have enough time with the knockback to take out a rock or two before they get close enough to attack. Time your tool switching and hit them as they get close. It's not worth chasing them. 3. Don't sell cave carrots! You can donate your first one to the community center if you go that route but they are an adventures best friend in the mines! They're not the *best* food by any means but they do give a decent buff to both your health and energy if you're in a bind. 4. Once you've gotten a couple, keep a farm totem in your inventory whenever you go into the mines. These will teleport you directly to your farm regardless of where you are. Warning: Make sure your totem warp point on your farm is clear *before* using the warp totem. If you don't and you don't have the means to clear it, you will probably get stuck and pass out on your farm. Farm totems can be the difference between passing out in the mines or getting back into bed on time. 5. You will not lose items in your inventory if you pass out in the mines, only if your health reaches zero. Due to this, if it's already 1:00 and you've got one more level before the elevator, **find the stairs!** You will lose a little bit of money but you will still keep that elevator checkpoint and not have to go through the previous four floors again ## Community Center ### Bridge Repair - [ ] Crafts Room - [ ] Spring Foraging - [ ] Wild Horseradish - [ ] Daffodil - [ ] Leek - [ ] Dandelion - [ ] Fall Foraging - [ ] Common Mushroom - [ ] Wild Plum - [ ] Hazelnut - [ ] Blackberry - [ ] Summer Foraging - [ ] Sweet Pea - [ ] Grapes - [ ] Spice Berry - [ ] Winter Foraging - [ ] Winter Root - [ ] Crystal Fruit - [ ] Snow Yam - [ ] Crocus - [ ] Construction - I usually try to wait foor this one until I have the Deluxe barn and Coop if possible because I need wood and stone for those. - [ ] 99 Wood - [ ] 99 Wood - [ ] 99 Stone - [ ] 10 hardwood - [ ] Exotic Fraging (Only Need 5) - [ ] Coconut - [ ] Cactus Fruit - [ ] Cave Carrot - [ ] Red Mushroom - [ ] Purple Mushroom - [ ] Maple Syrup - [ ] Oak Resin - [ ] Pine Tar - [ ] Morel ### Greenhouse - [ ] Pantry - [ ] Spring Crops - [ ] Parsnips - [ ] Green Bean - [ ] Cauliflour - [ ] Potato - [ ] Summer Crops - [ ] Tomato - [ ] Hot Pepper - [ ] Blueberry - [ ] Melon - [ ] Fall Crops - [ ] Corn - [ ] Eggplant - [ ] Pumpkin - [ ] Yam - [ ] Quality Crops (Only Need 3) - [ ] 5 G Star Parsnips - [ ] 5 G Star Melons - [ ] 5 G Start Pumpkins - [ ] 5 G Star Corn - [ ] Animal Bundle (Only Need 5) - [ ] Large Milk - [ ] Large Brown Egg - [ ] Large White Egg - [ ] Large Goat Milk - [ ] Wool - [ ] Duck Egg - [ ] Artisan Bundle (Only Need 6) - [ ] Truffle Oil - [ ] Cloth - [ ] Goat Cheese - [ ] Cheese - [ ] Honey - [ ] Jelly - [ ] Apple - [ ] Apricot - [ ] Orange - [ ] Peach - [ ] Pomegranate - [ ] Cherry ### Glittering Stone Removal - [ ] Fish Tank - [ ] River Fish - [ ] Sunfish - River - Spring/Summer - Sun/Wind - 6am - 7pm - [ ] Catfish - River - Spring/Fall - Rain - 6am - 12am - Secret Woods - All - Rain - 6am - 12am - Witch's Swamp - All - Rain - 6am - 12am - [ ] Shad - River - Spring/Summer/Fall - Rain - 9am - 2am - [ ] Tigertrout - River - Fall/Winter - Any - 6am - 7pm - [ ] Night Fish - [ ] Walleye - River/Mountain Lake/Forest Pond - Fall/Winter - Rain - 12pm - 2am - [ ] Bream - River - All - Any - 6pm - 2am - [ ] Eel - Ocean - Spring/Fall - Rain - 4pm - 2am - [ ] Lake Fish - [ ] Largemouth Bass - Mountain Lake - All - Any - 6am - 7pm - [ ] Carp - Mountain Lake - Spring/Summer/Fall - Any - All Day - Secret Woods/Sewer - All - Any - All Day - [ ] Bullhead - Mountain Lake - All - Any - All Day - [ ] Sturgeon - Mountain Lake - Summer/Winter - Any - 6am - 7pm - [ ] Ocean Fish - [ ] Sardine - Ocean - Spring/Fall/Winter - Any - 6am - 7pm - [ ] Tuna - Ocean - Summer/Winter - Any - 6am - 7pm - [ ] Red Snapper - Ocean - Summer/Fall - Rain - 6am - 7pm - [ ] Tilapia - Ocean - Summer/Fall - Any - 6am - 2pm - [ ] Special Fish - [ ] Pufferfish - Ocean - Summer - Sunny - 12pm - 4pm - [ ] Ghostfish - The Mines Floor 20/60 - All - Any - All Day - Can be dropped from Ghosts - [ ] Sandfish - The Desert - All - Any - 6am - 8pm - [ ] Woodskip - Secret Woods - All - Any - All Day - [ ] Crabpot (Only need 5, can complete from foraging on beach and getting a crab from the mines) (Honestly this is one of the easiest to complete and super fast) - [ ] Lobster - [ ] Crayfish - [ ] Crab - mines - [ ] Cockle - forage on Beach - [ ] Mussel - forage on Beach - [ ] Shrimp - [ ] Snail - [ ] Periwinkle - [ ] Oyster - forage on Beach - [ ] Clam - forage on Beach ### Mine Carts - [ ] Boiler Room - [ ] Blacksmith - [ ] Copper Bar - [ ] Iron Bar - [ ] Gold Bar - [ ] Geologist - [ ] Quartz - [ ] Earth Crystal - [ ] Frozen Tear - [ ] Fire Quartz - [ ] Adventurer (Only Need 2) - [ ] 99 Slime - [ ] 10 Bat Wing - [ ] Solar Essence - [ ] Void Essence ### Friendship Boost Boosts friendship with all non-romance NPCs by 2 hearts (500 FP) This does *NOT* affect friendships with NPCs you haven't met (I personally would attempt to repair the bus before you complete all bundles to boost friendships with as many NPC's as Possible) - [ ] Bulletin Board - [ ] Chef - [ ] Maple Syrup - [ ] Fiddlehead Fern - Summer only either in new rain or in the Secret Woods with Axe upgrade - [ ] Truffle - [ ] Poppy - [ ] Maki Roll - [ ] Fried Egg - [ ] Dye - [ ] Red Mushroom - [ ] Sea Urchin - Can be foraged on the beach after repairing the bridge (300 wood) - [ ] Sunflower - [ ] Duck Feather - [ ] Aquamarine - [ ] Red Cabbage - This is a year 2 crop but can be found in year 1 at the travelling merchant. - [ ] Field Research - [ ] Purple Mushroom - [ ] Nautilus Shell - [ ] Chub - [ ] Frozen Geode - [ ] Fodder - [ ] 10 Hay - [ ] 10 Wheat - [ ] 3 Apples - [ ] Enchanter - [ ] Oak Resin - [ ] Wine - [ ] Rabbits Foot - [ ] Pomegranate ### Bus Repair - [ ] Vault - [ ] 2,500 G - [ ] 5,000 G - [ ] 10,000 G - [ ] 25,000 G ## Important Dates Spring 5 - mines Spring 5 - Your pet (cat or dog) spring 5 - Community Center?
