# COPPER DIGITAL COMMONS ==is an open source, community based and non-hierarchical. It is divided into several working Groups that collaborate horizontally and represent the cultural build of the Copper Community, implemented to promote our Vision. We believe in rewarding value creation!== What is a Commons? Resources that groups of people (communities, organizations) create and manage for individual and collective benefit. These resources are held collectively, not owned privately (see Fractal Ownership, Wiki and Automating Ostrom) ---------------------------- ### Origin of the Project ***Mission***: Our goal is to impact change in underserved communities by building blockchain infrastructure and tools to meet the demands of enterprises, developers and incoming users. The research & development of tokenized economies, while aligning our collective success with the individual benefit of token holders. ***Vision***: To advance our sovereignty through enabling the creation of ethical, safe, resilient and diverse economic systems to benefit people of color and indigeneous communities. We will start this by creating ***Copper Coin***. In an increasingly digital world, traditional centralized systems consistently pose significant obstacles to progress with outdated frameworks and intermediaries who stifle innovation, limit transparency, and impede the growth of marginalized communities seeking to shape their own destiny. Businesses struggle to build resilient and efficient ecosystems, supply chains face inefficiencies and lack traceability, and payment networks remain burdened by lengthy processes and high fees. In addition, the alarming reality of a widening racial wealth gap presents a pressing concern that demands immediate attention. Despite efforts to address systemic inequities, a clear path to effectively tackle this issue remains elusive. Black Americans, whose buying power contributes a staggering $2 trillion to the GDP, have not been met with the reciprocity and economic opportunities they deserve. The absence of a comprehensive solution perpetuates this inequality, hindering the advancement and prosperity of marginalized communities. It's clear that a transformative solution is needed to break free from these constraints and unlock the true potential of collaboration and sovereignty. #### *** It may be to our benefit to create a DAO for governance *** --------------------- ## Working Groups Working Groups are founded on research of economist Elinor Ostrom, who developed 8 principles to effectively govern a commons through decentralization. Each group should have a steward who supports the function and operations of the group | Communications | Engineering | Legal | Rewards | Education | Labs | Soft Gov| | ---------------- | ------------------ | ---------- | ------------ | ---------- | --- | ---- | Messaging | systems design | copyrights | distribution | culture | innovation | conduct | Public relations | websites, graphics | contracts | comm recog | ideals | alliances | voting | Social media | token dev | | | onboarding | | meetings ## Token Introduction ### Why Tokens not dollars? Tokens bring with them powerful network effects that reward participants relative to their stage of adoption, the value they contribute and the risk they bear in an auditable and trustful way. Tokens allow for a new liquid asset to crowdfund the next wave of the Web, a direct stake in its future which can be fractionalized, shared or sold in secondary markets. Dollars are now useless as we are transitioning into a digital economy. ## ### Token Bonding Curve When it comes to token-based governance, there are many different ways to distribute tokens to the community and stakeholders. Some methods include airdrops, liquidity mining, and novel auction mechanisms. However, some of these methods can lead to problems, such as voter apathy or mercenary addresses that only care about making a profit. One solution to these problems is to use a bonding curve to distribute tokens. A bonding curve is a way to set a fixed relationship between the price of a token and the supply of that token. For example, as the supply of tokens increases, the price can increase by a fixed value or a percentage. Unlike other methods, a bonding curve does not require liquidity to be seeded in a pool. Instead, users can deposit ETH or stable coins into the curve to mint tokens on demand. This can help prevent token dumping and encourage long-term investment in the community. Overall, there is no perfect way to launch a governance token, but a bonding curve can be a useful alternative method to consider. ![](https://hackmd.io/_uploads/ryCBZfejh.png) --- ### COMMONS INCUBATOR Maintaining a mission globally while not becoming a centralized entity is a challenge faced by cause-based movements, and facilitating the creation of bottom-up local nodes can help solve this problem. We developed the Commons Incubator to fast-track the deployment of CommonsDAOs. It is designed to facilitate the launch of nodes sharing the same cause or on the same chain by providing them with the structure to allow them to move forward on their mission. The Commons Incubator lays the groundwork for projects that come through the program to successfully launch in 3 months. If done on their own, it would take around 8 months. The incubator guides them through every step of launching a CommonsDAO. The Incubator program will consist of workshops, educational resources and guest speakers focused on the management of shared resources, including policy design, web3 governance and token engineering. --- ![](https://hackmd.io/_uploads/SyWOWMxs2.png) The future is creator-powered.
