This smart campus help students by giving them 2 things in general 1. Locating free working space within the campus Problem: Students waste time when searching for working space Solution: With campus guide, students can know which working space is empty and can make a reservation for it 2. Make discussion more "smart" Problem: Students sometimes can't answer some questions by themselves Solution: Campus guide offers group discussion which helps students find the answer to a question they don't understand. If the answer already exists then the campus guide application will show it and if it doesn't exist students can post that question that later others will answer it or can help by discussing it in the working space the troubled students are. #### Advantages: * Fewer times to search empty working space * Easy to search answer for questions we don't know * Easy to set up a meeting #### Disadvantages: * Reservation for space not 100% accurate because someone who reserves the space can cancel it anytime * No guarantee the answer for questions we looking for is 100% true #### Reference link : [Campus Guide](http://www.openiot.eu/?page_id=52) --- ## Cisco Kinetic for Cities Parking A smart campus system that focuses on solving the parking problem on campus. The system provides intelligent parking services that use data from public Wi-Fi, video cameras, video analytics, and sensor-enabled parking management. While this system intended for cities but it can be implemented on campus too, especially when the campus has an event that makes the parking slot suddenly close to zero. #### Advantages: * Easy parking for students * Reduce congestion #### Disadvantages: #### Reference :[Cisco](https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/solutions/industries/smart-connected-communities/city-parking.html),[Others](https://www.wrld3d.com/blog/smart-campus-trends/) --- ## Digital Building Make campus buildings smarter than ever with this system. The buildings that use this system will become automatic, like the lighting, water, and many more. There are 2 major things in this system 1. Energy efficiency Make the campus reserve more energy during less busy times and optimize the energy used when used. The efficient energy is: * lighting The system uses presence and motion sensors to detect if anyone there, personalized lighting, green parking, and many more * cooling system Almost the same as lighting but it's applied at the cooling system 2. Navigation system The concept looks like google maps that map all the campus building so you know where is this location and where you are 3. Attendance system The campus building now use some sort of card reader to check their teachers and students attendace instead of manual attendance system we have now. #### Advantages : * Less money spent for building maintances * More energy saved * Easy navigation throughout campus #### Disadvantages : #### Reference : [Cisco](https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/solutions/workforce-experience/digital-building/index.html?dtid=osscdc000283#~stickynav=2),[Other](https://www.wrld3d.com/blog/smart-campus-trends/) --- ## Smart Learning With digital technology now campus can make learning experiences smarter that means students won't have to go to a campus anymore to learn something that can be learned from their own home. There is 2 category for smart learning: 1. Digital Portal The campus can make their portals or mobile apps for students to access course materials, videos where their professor teach when at class, submitting homework, get their assignment and submitting it, and many more. Now students can have distance-learning where they feel most comfortable to them 2. Virtual Labs Students that majors in modern science, engineering, computer science sometimes need high computational resources. Back then they must go to the lab for doing it but now campus can make cloud computing so they can make their project which needs high computational resources at distance. 3. Digital library system The campus libraries now can be accessed online by students. Students will have traditional library system within their grasp now, there are some features that need to establish in this system and that's it: * Book availability Students now don't have come to library to check books that they wish to borrow. * Extend their book borrowed time Now student can just extend their book borrowed time online instead going to library to have it manually done #### Advantages : * Students can learn anywhere and everywhere * Less time to submit homework or assignment because there's no need for students to submit it directly #### Disadvantages : * Students can see smart learning a mean so they can skip classes #### References: [Smart learning](https://www.dotmagazine.online/new-work-and-digital-education/ICT4D/smart-campus-merging-smart-city-and-smart-home-in-education-for-digital-natives) --- ## Smart Cyber Security Smart campus can be applied to their security field too, smart campus not just making students smarter but can make them more safe too. There are 2 categories to be secured: 1. Video surveillance Anywhere there are power source campus can deploy a smart IP video camera and use it wirelessly. 2. Smart locks and access control Combine ID card readers, video surveillance, perimeter controls and everyone that goes in and out now can be monitored. According to references mention below, there is an example smart campus respond to someone unwanted, that is: 1. Motion detectors identify movement at a place and time where no one should be, 2. Wi-Fi locks recognize that someone is attempting entry without proper authorization, 3. Connected lights snap on, illuminating the entryway, 4. Smart surveillance cameras automatically pan/tilt/zoom and capture video, 5. If the intruder is a student or employee with a smart campus ID card, the system immediately recognizes who it is, 6. An alert is sent to campus security with all the relevant information and a real-time video feed so they can respond appropriately. #### Advantages: 1. All campus peoples now can feel safer at the campus 2. Campus system now more hard to break-in #### Disadvantages: 1. If the system has a hole in its security once unwanted people into that system they can control everything the system has to offer #### Reference: [Smart cyber security](https://www.dotmagazine.online/new-work-and-digital-education/ICT4D/smart-campus-merging-smart-city-and-smart-home-in-education-for-digital-natives) --- ## What I Think Should be Applied in Taipei I considered that the best system is smart learning for JHS in Taipei because students now can access their courses 24 hours and 7 days in a week. But there are some additional things, my smart learning will consist of this features: 1. Digital library system 2. Digital attedance system 3. Digital portal 4. School Event system: Now students can make reservation for some school rooms through online and can see what events there are in school for one year.
