## Step 1: Ensure that your company file is prepared for updating
Ensure your company file is free from any data damage before installing the latest version of Enterprise.
* Sign in to QuickBooks with the Admin credentials. Ensure the Admin account is password-protected.
* Access the Company menu, navigate to Users, and choose to Edit the Admin user.
* Eliminate special characters such as ":", "&", and "/" from the company file name and verify that the file extension is .qbw.
* Close QuickBooks and then reopen it.
* From the Window menu, select Close All to close any open windows.
* Head to the File menu and click on Utilities.
* Choose Verify Data from the options available.
Once completed, you'll receive a notification that QuickBooks found no issues with your data file. If you receive a different message, please follow the provided instructions to resolve the issue and then verify the data once more. After QuickBooks confirms there are no problems, you may proceed with installing Enterprise.

## Step 2: Install the most recent version of Enterprise on the server.
* Exit all active applications, including any antivirus software.
* Double-click on the downloaded Enterprise file.
* Choose 'Server Install,' then select both 'Database Server' and 'QuickBooks Application.'.
**a.** If you have a server only install, it’s best to install the update over your previous version. You can also use the full program install instead.
**b.** If you have the full program with the QuickBooks Database Manager on your computer, then you can install over the previous version. You can also keep both versions. One Database Manager will run the services for one or multiple versions installed.
* Continue following the on-screen instructions until the installation is complete. If you encounter any error messages during the installation, restart your system and attempt the installation once more.
* Launch the newly installed version of QuickBooks and open your company file
* Log in with your Admin credentials. QuickBooks will automatically create a backup of your file and update it. After the update, your company file will be ready to use.
