# DEI Chair Team Meeting Notes June 15, 2021 ### Agenda * How the first meeting went * How to induct people into the team * Updates about the survey from Kyra and Virginia ### How the meeting went * Thought it went really well * Thank you to Jeff for creating the post about the Solid Team and the survey  * Goals include to make more engagement and that's going well so far * Liked how the ending was transparent when we ended the recording and let people talk openly * Helps people understand that it's not just for show * Felt like a lot of people were talking about intimidation * There were some actions in the community that have perpetuated this, like the idea that the community should be treated as special and can be aggressive but that's somehow ok * This is unhealthy and something we should address * Interesting to note that Kyra and Virginia's experiences that they raised in the meeting about being intimidated were echoed by others in the community as well * Jeff suggests that we should mention at the beginning of the meetings that there's going to be a private time at the end where people can share, so people are aware upfront. **Action Item** ### Inducting People into the Chair team * What is the criteria to add people? * Comfortable being vocal * Bring diversity * Have passion for the topics and be interested in contributing * We want to make sure people will positively affect the team * Kyra suggests to have an application for people to apply to become chairs, so that it doesn't seem like we're cheryr picking * **Action item**: Kyra will create a Typeform for people to apply through * Will commandeer this issue to address this: https://github.com/solid/deit/issues/7 * How do we make sure everyone's voice is heard when voting on who to invite? * We can have video calls to discuss and agree * Should people be automatically inducted into the Solid team? * Kyra thinks we should ask the Solid Team how they feel about it * Also suggests that (if the Solid Team is fine with it) it should be an option for people to join the Solid Team if they want to ### Survey Update * We have 90 responses so far * Kyra posted the survey on Reddit and got some responses from there, and brings up that we should include Reddit in the list of spaces that we post Solid updates to * Some very actionable comments are coming in from the surveys, such as making a glossary for common acronyms * * Jeff will start making a glossary of acronyms **Action Item** * https://github.com/solid/deit/issues/15 * Also a consideration to maybe form a volunteer mentorship program in the future * Jeff already created an issue for this https://github.com/solid/deit/issues/12 * Virginia has been making visualizations on the initial data https://codepen.io/collection/xKeKYN * Jeff mentioned that he is already mentoring two people who had reached out to him asking how to get involved, so we will need to determine how much assistance we want to provide people in a volunteer capacity * Jeff differentiates between mentorship vs mediation. People said, "I tried to get this happening in Solid and no one paid attention" and he would take a look and help people understand what they're looking for and how to help, so we might need mediator roles that can help amplify voices who need help ### Other * We are reinstating Marrelle as Lead Chair of the DEIT Chairs * Add action items from this meeting to the GitHub Issues
