# FOSSMEC Orientation

**Agenda:** Discussion on how to conduct Foss Orientation
**Discussion:** We discussed how to organize the foss orientation for 1st and 2nd yrs. We pooled ideas to make the session more interactive and interesting. It was decided that the orientation will be conducted on two consecutive days (weekend - 1.5 hr each day). Each session will have two speakers (30 mins each) and 30 mins entertainment session. Planning for the orientation was done as mentioned below and duties were taken up by each person. The next meeting is scheduled for 28/07/21(Wednesday) to update each one's progress.

- Talks - 'What is FOSS? How is it relevant?'
- Focus areas (w.r.t speaker's background) - Malayalam, Our age group, Maybe someone experienced, Non Binary/woman speaker, speaker from non-cs background
- Reachout to FOSSUnited, devdutt, subin
- Quiz - Related to tech
- Social aspect - ig reels, tweets, ig live

**Agenda:** Catch up on the conduct of Foss Orientation

**Discussion:** The meeting involved all the members giving updates on the tasks taken up during the previous meeting.

Aneetta put forward suggestions related to the conduct of games:
* Card game - Participants will be given clues about a specific technology and they'll have to guess the technology used.
* Quiz - Proposed to be conducted on kahoot
* Treasure hunt - clues will lead the participants to different social media handles of FOSSMEC
Decision pending on whether to choose card game or treasure hunt.

Megha suggested the following regarding the organisational aspect of the orientation session:
* Poster template is ready
* Instagram reel(animated) showing the importance of Foss in an interesting way
* Live coding of a project - to be considered later so as to conduct as a separate workshop
* Convenient time to conduct the orientation - first week of August(Fri, Sat)(evening)

Hanna reached out to the following people:
* Abraham raji - gave a positive response
* Kavya manohar - gave a positive response
* Athul cyriac ajay - yet to respond
* Sharath - yet to respond
* Nabarun Pal - backup speaker

**Tasks to be accomplished:**
* Finalise a platform to conduct the orientation, keeping in mind the constraints regarding time and the necessity of breakout rooms to conduct the games.
* Make a form ready to collect the details of participants in order to calculate the approx. number of participants and decide the platform based on that(consider a YouTube live session if the number of participants exceed 100)
* Specify more details regarding the game content
* Confirm whether the speakers would be willing to have the session recorded and shared in our social media handles.
* Check with the speakers whether they prefer a live or a recorded session and also what topic they would like to talk about.
